Subject Description
Literacy Continuing work from the Spring term on Imaginary worlds, focusing on descriptive
writing: settings, characters, how to create tension & suspense.
Summer term objectives focus on narrative stories that raise issues.
Persuasive writing: letters & adverts/fliers using language to persuade.
Poetry in a variety of forms, looking at , writing & performing a range of poems.
Maths Develop written methods for multiplication & division of 2 & 3 digit numbers.
Identify doubles of 2 digit numbers.
Develop written methods for addition & subtraction of 2/3 digit numbers.
Solve one & two step problems including numbers, money, measures & time.
Investigate mathematical statements & carry out investigations.
Finding the perimeter & area of shapes.
Science
Habitats – micro-organisms- helpful/harmful microbes.
- Edward Jenner.
Forces & motion – Mr Ball from Calday will be coming in to do some fun pratical
investigations on Forces.

Curriculum Explorers & Adventurers – looking at what it is like to explore space & the deep sea.

The children will learn about the 1 moon landing.
Famous explorers from past and present.
Physical Education Striking & fielding skills – rounders & cricket & variations on these themes.
Athletics focusing on running & jumping.
OAA at Barnstondale camp.
Music Mr Peters is a music specialist who will:
explore some characteristics of signals (action, sound, gesture, or sign used as a
means of communication) consolidating their sense of pulse and ability to perform
with others.
create, perform and analyse short descriptive compositions that combine sounds,
movements and words.
All includes singing and use of tuned and untuned percussion (including Boomwhackers)
piano, keyboard, mandolin, accordian, autoharp and guitar.
Religious
Education/PSHE Journeys – reflect upon own experiences of journeys & learn about pilgrimages of
different faiths.
Special places – what makes a place special & thinking about our own special
places.

ICT (computers)
Mainly done through IPC topic, children will be researching using search engines,
using skills such as copying and pasting into word/publisher to record their findings.
French Madame Barnoux, a specialist french teacher from Calday will be focusing on:
Revising and recapping work done from Autumn & Spring terms such as revising
numbers to 100, days of the week, months of the year, French alphabet, weather &
clothes.
Focus will be on food and sports.
Outdoor Learning To carry out a field habitat study, identifying plants and animals in the local environment.
Measuring rainfall and recording the results.
Designing and making greenhouse panels using plastic bottles.
Visits/ Trips Barnstondale Residential takes place during the Summer term, a 3 day, 2 night stay,
developing problem solving skills and lots of aspects of Outdoor Adventurous Activities (in
the P.E curriculum).
