Career and Internship Connection (CIC) Consortium at the American Management Association Bldg, NYC -

This CIC event is both a career fair, and an opportunity to interview and recruit students from sixteen

selective diverse institutions (Schools include: Cornell, Brandeis, Notre Dame, U of Chicago, U of Rochester,

Ithaca College, St. Lawrence University, Boston College, Emory University. Hobart & William Smith College,

Johns Hopkins University, Marquette University, Northwestern University, Pomona College, Reed College,

Gala.” NMF has provided more than $38 million in financial assistance to approximately 28,000 minority

LET’S GET READY is a non-profit organization that assists low income high school students get into college

by providing tutoring, assistance with the application process, financial aid and SAT preparation. The

organization began in 1988 when a group of college students from Westchester NY realized that the

knowledge and expertise they had gained while applying to college could substantially benefit younger

students who lacked access to critical support resources. 92% of Let’s Get Ready students go directly to

Pipeline Early Care provides young black males with the highest quality care and education from birth

through kindergarten - at the very beginning of the pipeline. The Working Group is comprised of leaders in

Dragon Boat Festival.” The Festival is a multi-cultural celebration and sporting event where 80 competing

teams and over 1000 participants from Canada and across the United States will race each other on 39-

foot canoes at Meadow Lake – Flushing Meadow Park. The canoes are custom made in Hong Kong,

weighing one ton each, colorfully painted and decorated with dragons’ heads and tails. The canoes are

piloted by up to 20 crewmen, including 18 paddlers, a drummer (for inspiration) and steersperson. This

year’s event will welcome two new events – The Hong Kong Invitational and the Municipal Invitational and

The WNBC Local Media and WNJU Telemundo47 internships offer the student real world

experience while becoming familiar with NBCU's organization and work style. Internships are the

perfect way to gain real world experience while learning what a career at WNBC Local Media or

WNJU Telemundo47 in NYC and New Jersey might hold in store for them. Interns have produced

tangible results as they begin building their professional networks, and for many, it confirms their

professional goals. We offer opportunities throughout all of our departments. Positions relate to

News, Production, Social Media, Sports, Meteorology, Research, Sales, Digital, Marketing, Public

Affairs, Communications and Creative Services. We provide college students with the opportunity

to showcase their many talents and allow WNBC and WNJU to identify high potential talent for

future staff hiring as well as opportunities in our Early Career programs i.e., NBC Page program;

Entertainment Associates program, News associate program, Universal Pictures Leadership

program, Commercial Leadership program, Talent Diversity Initiative, Diversity Initiative for writers,

Taller Telemundo, Writers on the verge, GE Leadership programs, and the NBC News/NY Film

Academy, School of Broadcast Journalism. In addition to temporary positions that maybe

available.







WNBC and WNJU seek students who are committed to a career in

Media/Broadcasting/Communications through experiences in their major studies, college

clubs/organizations, prior media based internships or prior media work experience. Grade point

average, community service, and leadership experience are also an important part of the total

assessment of student applicants.







WNBC/WNJU work closely with all local/tri-state area colleges and universities within our viewing

area to build an active robust internship-training program. During the current annual reporting

year, a total of 75 Interns have participated in the Internship program with a total of 48

colleges/universities represented. WNBC and WNJU have also participated in various on-site

campus recruiting, career fairs, co-sponsor, host and have spoken on topics from resume writing,

news and media to diversity and culture in the media. The program is offered during the

Spring/Summer and Fall semesters and is designed to accommodate a student's school schedule.

Students receive college credit and a monthly stipend to cover the cost of transportation.

Internships usually last between 13 to 18 weeks per semester, either part time or full time.

Emma Bowen Foundation for Minority Interests in Media



WNBC is a proud sponsor of the Emma Bowen Foundation. The Emma L. Bowen Foundation was

established by the media industry to help increase access to permanent job opportunities for

minority students. The Foundation's program is unlike other intern programs in that student’s work

for a partner company during summers and school breaks from the end of their junior year in high

school until they graduate from college. During that five-year period, students have an opportunity

to learn many aspects of corporate operations and develop company-specific skills. The Stations

have the opportunity to guide and develop minority students with the option of permanent

placement upon completion of their college degree. Students in the program receive an hourly

wage, as well as matching compensation to help pay for college tuition and expenses. Mentoring

from selected staff in the sponsoring company is also a key element of the program. WNBC is

proud to be the first local NYC television station in 1989 to work with the Emma Bowen Foundation.

During the summer semesters, “Emma” students rotate in various WNBC Local Media departments

while gaining experience in every aspect in media.









Internal Skills Enhancement Programs





Employees of the Station are provided with training and development opportunities designed to enhance

their ability to assume positions of greater responsibility. Various programs are provided via external

vendors and internal GE/NBC sponsored programs.



Station employees participated in the following development/leadership skills courses: Career Pathing,

Building Essential Leadership skills (BELS); TVSD Sales Seminar, TVSD Producer Seminar, Presentation

skills, Effective Coaching, Management Development Course; Influencing Skills, DISC Behavior Styles at

work, Finance for non-financial professionals, and Microsoft Systems-related training. The GE African

American Forum, GE Women’s Network, and GE Hispanic Forum also provide professional skill

development courses to employees. In addition, online courses on a variety of topics are available to all

employees. Courses include: Negotiation Skills, Time Management, Team Building, Goal Setting, Project

Management, Communication Skills and Conflict Management, Hiring The Right People, How to write an

Employee Evaluation; and Inclusive Leaders workshop.





EEO/Human Resources Training Program

The Stations regularly offer training to employees addressing methods of ensuring equal employment

opportunities and preventing discrimination. These programs have included Personnel Relations

Leadership, Employment Law, Discrimination/Harassment Prevention Training, Integrity Training, and

Hiring the Right People, and Overview of OFCCP Internet applicant regulations.
