Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Newsletter

April, 2010

Letter from the Pastor

Are there really any “accidents” in life? I have always wondered this. I’ve always wondered if it’s an accident that

Easter falls right at the very beginning of spring. Imagine if we celebrated Easter at the beginning of October, as

the summer heat is leaving us, and a chill is beginning to be in the air. As the trees are “dying” back for another

season of rest, and the leaves are starting to fall?? Would the resurrection really FEEL right??? Or, like Christmas,

if we celebrated Easter in the middle of winter?? What would that be like??

I don’t think it’s an “accident” that we celebrate Easter at the beginning of Spring. After all, the whole point of

Easter is the defeat of death itself. And, as spring rolls in, we see nature demonstrating that very idea, and

celebrating alongside us, as the “death” of winter is conquered, and the new life of spring blossoms around us.

Paul says, in Romans 8: “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up

to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait

eagerly for our adoption as children, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we are saved.” It is awesome

to see nature celebrating the resurrected Christ right alongside us, as Scripture tells us that all of creation will be

redeemed when Christ returns. Hallelujah!!

Wednesday Night Family Nights

On Jan. 6th, we began a new study called “Life’s Healing Choices.” All of us

carry some sort of hurt within us. Christ came to heal and make us whole. This

study is done by Rev. Rick Warren, and helps us to heal our “hurts, hang-ups and

habits.” We all have some part of our life that needs healing, and this study helps us to find ways to live a

more whole and fulfilling life. The study is based on the Beatitudes of Jesus, and will run for about 16

weeks.

Remember, childcare is available for the youngest ones, and we have activities for the older children and

youth. Please bring the whole family along!
