“We kept faith with a promise as old as this land we love and as big as the sky.

A brilliant vision of America as a shining city on a hill.”

The National Federation of Republican Women

Literacy Committee proudly introduces its

National Reagan Centennial Project

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

The cowboy legendary legacy is deep-rooted in American history; well-preserved into modern

times. The cowboy is still looked upon as a hero, a beacon of integrity, courage, honesty and

pride, at a time in American history when our Nation was a land of opportunity, changing and

expanding. Memorialized in music, literature, and the arts, the cowboy continues to inspire

Americans as an example of leadership. President Reagan’s vision of freedom and his optimism

championed the American Western tradition and the cowboy. To honor President Reagan, in

particular his love of books, the NFRW Literacy Committee chose as its Centennial Project, "My

Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys."
