2. Scheme of Delegation
2.1 Items delegated by Council to Senate
Council may delegate general or specific matters to Senate and also give
Senate general or specific authority to finalise matters on behalf of
Council.
Council has delegated to Senate
All such powers as are or may be conferred on Senate by the
Charter, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations.
Senate may establish Committees and Working Groups

2.3 Items delegated by Senate:
Senate has delegated to Senate Executive Board approval of delegations of
powers to Senate committees.
Senate has delegated to ULTAC approval of codes and processes relating to
learning, teaching and assessment

Senate has delegated to ULTAC (which has delegated to PAC) the
determination of applications for new/major amendments to/withdrawal of
programmes leading to an award of the University of Hull
Senate has delegated to ULTAC (which has delegated to SPC) the award of
taught credits, Degrees (other than Honorary Degrees), Diplomas and
Certificates and the award of Degrees and other qualifications jointly with
other higher education institutions (excluding HYMS)
Senate has delegated to ULTAC the approval of the appointment of External
Examiners for taught programmes and modules
Senate has delegated to UREC (which has delegated to URDC) the
appointment of internal and external examiners for research degrees; the
award of research qualifications (including research containing taught
elements) on the recommendation of the appointed examiners; the award of
research training credits and qualifications on the recommendation of the
Postgraduate Research Training Scheme Board of Examiners; the approval of
new (thesis-based) research degrees
3. Appointment of Members
Members of Senate will be appointed by Senate. Members of Committees and
Working Groups will be appointed by Senate.
4. Mode of Operation
Senate will support equality of opportunity and good relations between
staff and students whatever their race, gender, disability, sexual
orientation, religion and belief, age or socio-economic background. This
support will include participating in university activities, such as equalities
monitoring, impact assessment and other measures as appropriate, in line
with the University’s legal obligations.
Senate must meet at least 3 times per academic year.
Senate should meet at least 14 days before Council.
