Conditions of Entry
The 2009 Pony Dressage Championships will be conducted in accordance with the current edition of EA Dressage Rules and
Official Procedures for Dressage Competitions.
Competitors are to be aware of the Rules. The onus is on riders to know the rules under which they compete.
1. Membership and Pony Registration: Ponies must be registered with, and owners and riders must be financial members of
     the EA.
2. Age: 2009 NSW State Pony Dressage Championships is open to riders 10 years of age and over.
3. Eligibility: The change of competition date to October has been taken into account in relation to qualifying eligibility as
follows. The qualifying period is the 12 months proceeding the closing date of entries ie 9/9/2008 to 9/9/2009. Performances
gained in 2008 NSW Pony Dressage Championships and 2009 Sydney Royal Pony Dressage comp will be accepted.
Performances must have been gained in official competitions (1 official HC may be accepted), pony club or interschool
performances will not be accepted. All combinations must submit their best three performances greater than 55% from
an official competition within the qualifying period at the level they wish to compete. Each level will have its entries ranked
with the top 30 ponies being accepted into the Championship competition. Subject to entry numbers, additional entries will be
accepted into a Reserve Competition with a maximum of 30 riders at each level. Please note, prizes are not applicable to the
Reserve Competition. Ribbons will be awarded to 8th place.

4. Stallions: Stallions are welcome to compete at this event however they must be kept under control by a competent person at
all times when either ridden or led. Stallions must be led with a bit or chain in addition to their headcollar. Stallions may not be
tied to the outside of a truck or trailer but must be stabled or housed in a truck/trailer. Any stallion not considered to be in
control by the organising committee will be withdrawn from the event. All riders and handlers are reminded that any horse can
be dangerous so please give all horses and ponies enough room to pass safely whether you are leading or riding. Please be
considerate of all riders and handlers and follow the rules of the arena whilst working horses; that is if you are walking stay
towards the middle track in the arena, if you need to stop or check your gear move to the middle of the arena or leave the
arena; pass riders coming in the opposite direction left shoulder to left shoulder. If you pass a rider in the same direction allow
at least 5 m width. Please look around you at all times and try to be aware of others riding or walking past. Many people
unintentionally frighten or distract horses by going too close or by moving too quickly; it is everyone's role to ensure the safety
of others. Stallion owners will be provided with stickers for their saddlecloth to help everyone to identify them.
5.   All Competitions are open to ponies that, at close of entries have gained less than the following grading points: Novice – 60;
Elementary – 120; Medium – 180; Advanced – 240. FEI Competitions ponies must have at least 80 Grading Points
6. Ponies may compete in two (2) consecutive levels. For example preliminary/novice; medium/advanced. Please note that to
be awarded Champion or Reserve Champion the results will be taken from two tests at the one level. They may compete in
three (3) tests per day, which includes a freestyle test.
7. Pony height: A current height certificate is recommended for all ponies in case its eligibility based on height is
queried. If a pony’s height is queried at the competition then the owner / rider needs to supply a height
certificate within 7 days of the competition. Failure to produce a height certificates results in the rider losing
all ribbons and prizes. All tests are for ponies not exceeding 149 cms with shoes and 148 cms without shoes.
8. Ranking will be based on the average of the highest percentage of three tests at the particular level, in the 12 months prior
to the close of entries. Riders who submit 3 performances (only one of which may be non-competitive) will be considered
ahead of those who submit one or two performances.
9. Draw: Competitions are limited to 30 entries. The organising committee reserves the right to rank ponies if necessary. A
revised draw may be necessary the day before the competition to allow for withdrawals. The starting order will not alter and a
move up system will apply. The onus is on the competitor to confirm/check their start times the day before the
     competition.
10. Performance Cards: All ponies competing in Official competitions must have an up-to-date Performance Card – a photocopy
must accompany entry forms for verification of performance. If the results have not been entered on the Performance Card,
then evidence must be produced to substantiate the performance and be provided with the entry form. The onus is on the
competitor to provide accurate performance information. Note: Cards must be correctly filled with placings, points and
    percentages.
11. FEI Competitions – please note FEI Competitions will only be run if there is a minimum of 3 competitors with performance.
12. FEI Tests can be downloaded at http://www.fei.org/Disciplines/Dressage/Organisers/Pages/Dressage_Tests.aspx
              • The FEI tests don't always align directly with EA levels however riders should be aware that they can only ride
over 2 consecutive competition levels at any competition. For the purpose of competing at the Pony Dressage
Championships the FEI tests are to be considered as:
                        i. FEI Pony – Elementary Level
              • As these tests are usually conducted under FEI rules whips will not be allowed in the FEI pony tests.
              • All other tests are conducted under EA rules for championships. Please check the EA rule book for gear
requirements. Rule books are available to download from the EA website. All riders need a copy of the rule book
and to be familiar with the content if they compete.
