From the Pastor...
Dear Parishioners,
“I learn more than the candidate, and I’ve been a Catholic all my life!” That is a common refrain that I hear from our
sponsors after class for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). For many different reasons, we all have gaps in
our knowledge of the faith, and we may not even realize it. Some may know that they are in need of further catechesis,
but how do you learn what you don’t know when you don’t know what you don’t know?
To help address this, I am going to open up the RCIA classes this year to anyone who would like to learn more about the
Catholic faith. I understand that Fr. Dvorak has successfully done this in the past at St. Joseph’s, but it will be new for
the people of St. John’s. Classes this year will be Sunday evenings starting September 11, meeting from
6:00 – 7:00 p.m., with time afterwards to stay if you’d like to discuss what was taught with your fellow parishioners
while I meet with the RCIA candidates and their sponsors. As with the youth faith formation that will eventually be
meeting at the same time, we will start the year at St. John’s, and move to St. Joseph’s after Christmas.
Believe it or not, we have a lot of fun in RCIA classes discussing the faith. We have a rich and fascinating tradition in
the Catholic Church, and there is always something more to learn. I encourage you to make the commitment and come
join us. Who knows? It could change your life.
