The following list will provide you with advice on the location of supermarkets, and price comparisons, as
well as some useful tips, which will help you to make the right choices.

 Your customary eating habits may change, but do not worry; there are always alternative options available.
 Remember that it will always be healthier and more economic to prepare your meals using fresh ingredients
rather than buying pre-prepared meals or take-away food. Try to think about your health and limit the
amount of fast food and snacks you eat throughout the day – cooking can be fun!
 Try buying your food on a weekly basis with your flatmates or friends, as this will save you time and money.
 Be aware that many lines of food are often discounted when the supermarkets are about to close at night.
 If you are eating out always ask if there is any discount for students.

These are some of the largest chains of supermarket located in the City:

International Food
There are a wide variety of foods (meat, fruit, vegetables, spices, etc) available from local shops. Edinburgh
is a cosmopolitan city and there are specialist and ethnic shops and restaurants throughout the city. Halal
meat is readily available and there are a number of stores within 5 minutes of the central campus.
Although there are no kosher delicatessens in Edinburgh, you can buy bread and other limited items of food
from specialist shops or from some larger supermarkets in Edinburgh. Glasgow does have kosher
delicatessens. Helpful link: www.ehcong.com/KASHRUT_NEWS.htm
