Don’t Be Afraid
Just heard a Kid Rock song on the radio. Big deal, Mike, he has a lot of songs on the radio! Yeah, but it was a country music station! How does me hearing a Kid Rock song on a country station have anything remotely to do with public speaking or presenting? Here’s how. And, its really quite simple. Kid Rock is not afraid. What? Yes, he is not afraid, never has been. He wasn’t afraid when he was just a skinny white kid trying to be a rapper. He wasn’t afraid when he learned that he needed to be a musician as well, he just learned how to play the guitar is all. He wasn’t afraid to go from being a rock star to making a song that they would play on a Top 40 country music station. You can’t be afraid either. You can’t be afraid of speaking. You can’t be afraid of stating an opinion. You can’t be afraid of taking a chance. You can’t be afraid of change. You especially can’t be afraid to fail!
If you are afraid you will never try anything new, you will not take the chance when it presents itself. And you will never succeed! You must seize any opportunity you get to stretch yourself! If stretching yourself means that you put yourself out in front of people when you would rather be in the background, then do it! If stretching yourself means accepting an invitation to speak when you would normally turn it down, then do it! If stretching yourself means being the main speaker instead of a backup or secondary speaker, then do it! Don’t be afraid to stretch! After all, Kid Rock did it, and I think it worked out pretty well for him. If he can do it, then so can you! ----------Make your reading experience easier and receive these articles in your inbox!
