                         JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Post Title:             Lecturer in Hairdressing

Salary:                 £23,773 - £27,162

Responsible to:         Team Leader

Liaison with:           College Lecturing Staff
                        Students
                        Employers
                        Administration Staff
                        Awarding and Validating Bodies


Main Purpose of the     To act as a coordinator for full time hairdressing
Job:                    qualifications


Main Duties:

   1 To teach, assess and Internally Verify across a range of subjects on
     Hairdressing courses

   2 To undertake subject leader, course leader and progress tutor duties
     as designated by the Team Leader

   3 To be actively involved in curriculum planning and development across
     the Hair, Beauty and Complementary Therapies curriculum area.

   4 To contribute to the development of flexible approaches to methods of
     delivery and assessment

   5 To comply with and develop as appropriate best practice administrative
     and quality assurance systems.

   6 To undertake appropriate staff development and training including the
     maintenance and updating of specialist skills.

   7 To attend and actively participate in team meetings and in planning
     and recruitment events.

   8 To enhance the College’s equal opportunities practices.

   9 To modify duties and responsibilities as required in order to meet new
     situations, in consultation with the Team Leader and College
     management.
                           PERSON SPECIFICATION

                             Hairdressing Lecturer
SELECTION CRITERIA
Selection will be based on the closeness of ‘fit’ between the candidates and the
following criteria as demonstrated by the application form/supporting documents and
by the interview process (which may include selection tests):

  EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS                    ESSENTIAL           DESIRABLE
1   Level 3 Professional qualification
    in Hairdressing                                
2    Possess a teaching qualification,
     e.g. PGCE, Cert. Ed, City and                  
     Guilds 7407 or be prepared to
     work towards one
3    Possess Assessor qualifications
     A1 and Internal Verification V1                

4    NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
     qualification in Maths and English             
     e.g. GCSE grades A – C
5    Possess minimum 3 years
     relevant vocational experience in              
     the Hairdressing industry
6    Possess at least 2 years teaching
     or training experience                         
7   Possess functional skills
    experience and delivery within the                                   
    Hairdressing/Beauty sector

1   Be able to work effectively as a
