You will write one news article and one editorial about the same topic. We have looked at examples of

both in class, so use your notes to help you as you write.

 The topic can be basically any newsworthy topic on a local, national, or world level.

 Follow Claim-Data-Warrant format

 Must include the 5W’s and researched facts about the topic

 Must include a headline, byline, and interesting lead

Editorial Criteria

 Your article should be 2-4 paragraphs typed, and in MLA format.

 Your editorial should cover the same topic as your news article.

 Follow Claim-Data-Warrant format

 You should make a convincing argument.

 Diction and selection of detail should indicate author’s tone.

 Must include a headline, byline, and interesting lead

Additional Criteria

 Three facts from outside sources (use at least two in your news article)

 Prewriting and rough draft must be included with your final draft.

SOURCE CITATIONS: You must turn this in with your final draft.

Use this sheet to help guide your research. Remember, when you use information from another source,

you must give credit to that source. Although you are only required to find two facts about your topic,

you may find that having more information will help you write. Use the boxes below to cite your
