EDITORIAL
It is our pleasure to publish April 2005 Issue of the Journal of International Society
for the History of Islamic Medicine (Journal of ISHIM). We know that Journal of ISHIM
is an academic journal devoted to the History of Islamic Medicine and Ethics research and
scholarship. Also, this issue like the earlier ones represents diversified studies in the History
of Islamic Medicine and Medical Ethics which activate thinking and raise certain questions.
So, it also tries to provide solutions to thorny and sensitive problems and the ensuing
understanding helps in enlarging one’s perception and intellectual horizon.
This issue contains some scientific articles, in which, we can see both important
biographies and valuable original studies on History of Islamic Medicine and Medical
Ethics. These articles are from wellknown authors of many countries of the world. So, this
journal helps to the development of researches on the History of Islamic Medicine and
Medical Ethics. Papers of this issue are seen as two types: Review and Research. After 14
papers, erratum and news of some scientific meetings are present.
The first paper by Omar Hasan KASULE is on “Medical Ethics from Maqasid al Shari’at”.
The second paper by Mohammad Reza Shams ARDEKANI and Fariborz MOATAR is about
“A Research Conducted on the Life and Works of Hakim Sayyid Esmail Jurjani”.
The third by Erhan BÜKEN and Nüket ÖRNEK BÜKEN is on “HIV/AIDS in Turkey and
HIV(+) Child’s Right to Education: Turkey’s Example”.
The fourth paper by Nurdeen DEURASEH is on “Al-Ruqyah with the Qur’an the Du’a (the
Prayer) in Islamic Medical Tradition”.
The fifth paper by İbrahim BAŞAĞAOĞLU and Nil SARI is on “Patient Attitude about
Ethical Issues Confronted During the Clinical Education of Medical Students with Emphasis
on Informed Consent”.
The sixth paper by Ayşegül DEMIRHAN ERDEMIR is on “A Perspective to Two Books on
Medical Ethics in Turkey of the Twentieth Century and Some Results”.
The seventh paper by Erhan BÜKEN and Nüket ÖRNEK BÜKEN is on “Evaluation of the
Turkish Penal Code Draft Bill from a Woman’s Viewpoint”.
The eighth paper by Ali ÇELİK and Ömür ELÇİOĞLU is on “The Mission of Daru’ş-şifa
(Hospitals) in Charter of Waqfs of Mehmed the Coqueror II”.
The ninth paper by Mostafa Ahmed SHEHATA is on “History of Inhalation Therapy”.
The tenth paper by Abdul Nasser KAADAN is on “Some of Arab and Muslim Physicians
Achievements Attributed to Western Physicians”.
The eleventh paper by Plinio PRIORESCHI is on “Berengario da Capri: Renaissace
Anatomist”.
The twelft paper by Rosanna GORINI is on “The Process of Origin and Growth of the Islamic
Medicine: The Role of the Translators. A Glimpse on the Figure of Hunayn bin Ishaq”.
The thirteenth paper by Kathem K. AL-RUBIAY is on “Banu-Zuhr Family in Al-Andulus:

The last paper by İbrahim SHAIKH is on “The Miracle of Divrigi: A Visit to great Mosque
