NORTH WEST AMBULANCE SERVICE NHS TRUST
1.0 Matter for consideration
1.1 The North West Ambulance Service’s provision of emergency response vehicles in
Blackpool.
2.0 Recommendation
2.1 To consider the quality of ambulance provision in Blackpool, subsequent to the
replacement of Lancashire Ambulance Service with the larger North West Ambulance
Service NHS Trust.
3.0 Summary of key issues
3.1 As Members will recall, a decision was taken at the previous meeting to write to the
North West Ambulance Service in order to express the Committee’s concerns about
the perceived risk to ambulance provision in Blackpool following the recent re-
organisation of the ambulance service.
3.2 Upon receipt of the letter, which is attached at Appendix 5(a), the Chief Executive of
the North West Ambulance Service, Mr John Burnside, offered to attend this meeting
in order to personally address the Committee’s concerns.
3.3 The next meeting of the Joint Ambulance Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee,
attended by Councillors Mrs Fowler, Best and Jebson, is scheduled to take place on
Tuesday 23rd October and will consider the Ambulance Service’s future strategic
direction.
