NATIONAL RAISE-A-READER SPONSOR
National Retail Chain Supports Children’s Literacy Campaign
WINNIPEG: The CanWest Global Foundation announced today that 7-Eleven Inc. is a
Gold Level sponsor of the 2005 CanWest Raise-a-Reader campaign. This national
initiative raises awareness, resources and funds for family literacy programs across
This year, in partnership with CanWest Raise-a-Reader, 7-Eleven Inc. will provide
sponsorship through three initiatives: Canada Day wristbands, Slurpee wristbands and
CanWest Raise-a-Reader coin boxes through July, August and September.
This year marks 7-Eleven’s second year supporting the CanWest Raise-a-Reader
campaign on a national basis. 7-Eleven has been a gold sponsor of Raise-a-Reader Day
in British Colombia for 5 years. All money raised through wristband sales and coin box
collections will stay in the region where it was raised.

exchanging special editions of their local CanWest and partner newspapers for donations that
support local family literacy organizations. This year CanWest Raise-a-Reader Day is
Thursday, September 29th in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina,
Winnipeg, Windsor, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Since its national
inception in 2002, Raise-a-Reader has raised more than $2.82 million for family literacy
initiatives across Canada.
