Ch. 22 Role playing information sheet
We will engage in a role-playing exercise in which your obligation is to
understand the point of view of a number of economists and to logically
argue your assigned personalities’ point of view in relation to a number of
situations.
You can find the initial discussion of each of the philosophers in your
textbook; however, you may need to do some hypothesizing about the
particular stance of your assigned personality in dealing with the posed
question or scenario. Your group will be given a variety of situations which
demand action or statement of point of view. For successful participation
you will need to adopt the personality you’ve been assigned and make
arguments and defend that point of view against other students with differing
points of view.
The following are those philosophers who you will need to be able to adopt:
Thomas Malthus
David Ricardo
Jeremy Bentham
Count Claude Henri de Saint-Simon
Robert Owen
Charles Fourier
Louis Blanc
Karl Marx
You will have access to your notes during the discussions and should be able
to cite specific information or publishing to support your arguments. You
will have to opportunity to change personalities several times throughout the
exercise so be sure that you can argue for or against any of the philosophers
in several different scenarios.
