               2011 Scholarship Recipients
Hardin County Farm Bureau has awarded $21,000.00 in scholarships to local students.
Scholarships included are the Hardin County Farm Bureau Scholarship, the Geneva Shipp
Memorial Scholarship, the Ray Mackey Scholarship, and the Robert E. “Bobby” Thomas
Memorial Scholarship. Also included, is a $1000.00 Jesse Shipp Memorial Scholarship funded
by the Hardin County Pork Producers.

All recipients must be a Hardin County Farm Bureau member or dependent of a Hardin County
Farm Bureau member. Applications are available each March and can be picked up at the
Hardin County Farm Bureau office located at 2915 Ring Road in Elizabethtown. For more

HARDIN COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP

Obieda Atiyani, son of Mohammad Atiyani and Samira Shabib of Elizabethtown, is a 2011
graduate of John Hardin High School. Obieda has participated in Y-Club, ESL Club, and DECA
Club. Other activities include 2010 John Hardin Soccer Camp and Community Service for needy
people which he earned Certificate of Appreciation. Obieda plans to attend University of Louisville
to pursue a degree in Biology.

Ebonee Bethea, daughter of Theresa Bethea of Radcliff, is a 2011 graduate of North Hardin High
School. Ebonee has participated in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony Band,
Pep Band, Volley Ball, Pep Club, AVID Club, National Honor Society and S2S. Other activities
include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Relay for Life and other community service projects. Ebonee
plans to attend University of Louisville to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Mahoganee Bethea, daughter of Theresa Bethea of Radcliff, is a 2011 graduate of North Hardin
High School. Mahoganee has participated in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony
Band, Pep Band, Volley Ball, Pep Club, AVID Club, National Honor Society and S2S. Other
activities include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Relay for Life, and other community service projects.
Mahoganee plans to attend University of Louisville to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Kayla Rose Doyle, daughter of Bradley and Jennifer Doyle of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate
of Central Hardin High School. Kayla has participated in, BETA Club, Young Democrats Club,
Varsity Club, Wrestler, Volleyball, ROTC, and Hardin County 4-H Program. Other activities
include Member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Upton Baptist Church Youth Group, and
community service projects. Kayla plans to attend Western Kentucky University to pursue a
degree in Education.

Jeremiah David Emmerling, son of Ryan and Jennifer Emmerling of Elizabethtown, is a 2011
graduate of Hardin County Home School Association. Jeremiah has participated in Optimist
Octagonal International, Boy Scouts of America, Teen Court of Hardin County, and Basketball.
Other activities include Member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Chrysalis, Cub Scout Day Camp
and other community service projects. Jeremiah plans to attend University of Kentucky to pursue
a degree in Engineering

Amber Hubbard, daughter of Kevin and Tammy Hubbard of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of
John Hardin High School. Amber has participated in FCCLA, Cheerleader, Gymnastics
Instructor, and Lifeguard.. Other activities include White Mills Christian Camp and other
community service projects. Amber plans to attend University of Louisville to pursue a degree in
Social Work.
Shelby Taylor LaFollette, son of Wendell Lafollette and Brenda Lafollette, both of
Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of Central Hardin High School. Shelby has participated in Beta
Club, Y-Club, Varsity Club, FCA, APES, Football, Wrestling, Student Council, Young Republicans
and Friends of Rachel . Other activities include Counselor for White Mills Christian Camp, Relay
for Life, Salvation Army, and community service projects. Shelby plans to attend University of
Louisville to pursue a degree in Engineering.

Tyler Larkin, son of David and Lori Larkin of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of Elizabethtown
High School. Tyler has participated in Soccer, Cross Country, Track, Student Council, Beta
Club, Student Technology Leadership Program, Hardin County Youth Leadership, Kentucky
Youth Assembly, Kentucky United Nations Assembly, Spanish Club, Advanced Broadcasting and
Y-Club. Other activities include Memorial United Methodist Youth Group, Red Cross, Salvation
Army, and community service projects. Tyler plans to attend University of Louisville to pursue a
degree in Engineering.

Brett Patterson, son of Terry and Bonnie Patterson of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of
Elizabethtown High School. Brett has participated in Basketball, Football, and the KHSAA
Academic All State Team. Other activities include member of Severns Valley Baptist Church,
American Red Cross Blood Drive, and community service projects. Brett plans to attend
University of Kentucky to pursue a degree in Engineering.

Sean M Rohrer, son of Todd and Nuala Rohrer of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of John
Hardin High School. Sean has participated in High School Academic Team, Boys Varsity
Soccer, and Recreation Soccer League Referee. Other activities include Member of St James
Catholic Church, Boy Scouts, and Salvation Army Volunteer. Sean plans to attend University of
Kentucky to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.

Richard Matthew Rowland, son of Richard and Barbara Rowland of Elizabethtown, is a 2011
graduate of Elizabethtown High School. Richard has participated in Varsity Football, Soccer
Coordinator, Basketball Official Scorer, Pep Club, and Boy Scouts. Other activities include
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, St James Catholic Church Parishioner and other community
service projects. Richard plans to attend Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to
pursue a degree in Secondary Education.

Laura Thomas, daughter of Rick and Tonya Thomas of Eastview, is a 2011 graduate of Central
Hardin High School. Laura has participated in HOSA, FCA, English Club, Book Club, Science
and Honor Society. Other activities include the Gilead Baptist Church Youth Group and volunteer
work. Laura plans to attend University of Campbellsville to pursue a degree in Nursing.


GENEVA SHIP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Dustin Shepherd, son of Doug and Allison Shepherd of Elizabethtown, is a 2011 graduate of
John Hardin High School. Dustin has participated in Y-Club, Corn Hole Club, DECA Member,
and FFA member. Other activities include Member of Memorial Methodist Church Youth Group,
Mission Trips, Beef Show Staff Member, and community service projects. Dustin plans to attend
University of Kentucky and to pursue a degree in Agriculture Economics.


RAY MACKEY SCHOLARSHIP

Whitney Churchman, daughter of Richard and Gail Churchman, has completed her third year at
Western Kentucky University. Whitney has participated in FFA, Y-Club, Beta Club, Student
Council, FCA, Young Republicans, Speech Team, Bowling for Kids, Dynamic Leadership, and
Residence Hall Council. Other activities include WKU A.S.S.E.T. Counselor, Red Cross
Volunteer, Salvation Army Volunteer and community projects. Whitney plans to continue her
education at Western Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Agriculture Economics and
Communications.
Ariel Waldeck, daughter of Robbin and Sarah Margaret Waldeck, has completed her second
year at University of Kentucky. Ariel has participated in FFA, Beta Club, FCA, Young
Republicans, and Yearbook. Other activities include Grace Heartland Youth Group, E’town
Chrysalis, and KY Brown Swiss Association, Farm Credit Services Ambassador, Hardin County
Cattleman’s Association, UK Christian Student Fellowship, K Crew, KFB Beef Expo, Collegiate
FFA, Dairy Club, Block and Bridle, UK Fusion, Hardin County Cattleman’s Association and
community service projects. Ariel plans to continue her education at University of Kentucky to
pursue a degree in Agriculture and Communications.

Kayla Wimp, daughter of Terry and Phyllis Wimp of Cecilia, has completed her second year at
Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. Kayla has participated in Youth Soccer, BETA
Club, Y Club, FBLA and member of Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church. Other activities include
Volunteer with Feeding America (Secondhand Harvest) and community service projects, Kayla
plans to continue her education at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College to purse a
degree in Nursing.



ROBERT E. “BOBBY” THOMAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Zachary Heibert, son of Kenneth and Vickie Heibert, has completed his third year at University of
Kentucky. Zach has participated in FFA, Alpha Gamma Rho, U of K Agribusiness Club and is
employed by the University of Kentucky Maine Chance Research Farm. Zachary plans to
continue his education at University of Kentucky to pursue a degree in Agriculture.

Alexandra Paige Skillman, daughter of Gregory and Judith Skillman of Elizabethtown, is a 2011
graduate of Central Hardin High School. Alexandra has participated in Senior Class Secretary,
Student Council, Beta Club, Y- Club, HOSA Club, Art Club, Friends of Rachel Club, Student
Relations Club, APES, and KY 4-H Youth Program. Other activities include Miss Hardin County
Fair, Miss Teen Hardin County Fair, Washington Youth Tour, CNA, Hardin County PAC,
Salvation Army and other community service projects. Alexandra plans to attend St Catherine
College to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Caleb Thomas, son of Dale and Cynthia Thomas of Elizabethtown, has completed his first year
at Western Kentucky University. Caleb has participated in Block and Bridle Collegiate FFA, Live
stock Show, APES, National Youth Salute and Young Democrats Club. Other activities include
St. John Church Youth Group and community service projects. Caleb plans to continue his
education at Western Kentucky University to pursue a degree in Agribusiness.

Aaron Yates, son of Kevin and Pamela Yates of Rineyville, is a 2011 graduate of North Hardin
High School; Aaron has participated in, Varsity Baseball, Pep Club, and Writing. Other activities
include, 4-H, FFA. And community service projects. Aaron plans to attend Elizabethtown
Community and Technical College.



JESSE SHIPP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 Caitlin Timberlake, daughter of Kenneth and Cynthia French, has completed her second year at
Morehead State University. Caitlin has participated in FFA, Hardin County 4-H Youth Program
and is employed by French Brothers Farms. Other activities include St James Church Youth
Group and community service projects. Caitlin plans to continue her education at Morehead
University to pursue a degree in Agriculture.
