Lezak anchored the U.S. 4×100 meter freestyle relay team, powering them to a gold medal and smashing the world record at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He ran down French anchorman Alain Bernard, former world record holder in the 100 freestyle, in the final strokes with an anchor leg of 46.06 which was the fastest relay leg in history.
