Sophomore September- Activities and Encouragement
Brief Description: This activity is a chance for students to work together to achieve
success in two challenges. They will need to encourage each other to be most successful.
Lesson Time Length: 30 minutes
Materials Needed:
Box of Kleenex
A straw for each person
Candy
Lesson Plan:
Activity Video:
1. Show the video about all the activities and sports that are available at Maine West for students
to join. Have the students fill out an interest form that will be sent to coaches and sponsors.
Encouragement Games
Hot-Air Specialist
1. Divide the advisory into two groups by counting off. Have the two groups make two single file lines
stretching the length of the room.
2. Give each person on the team a straw. Give a Kleenex to the person in the front of the line.
3. Explain to the teams that the object of the game is to suck in on your straw to hold the Kleenex onto the
end of it. They are to pass the Kleenex to the next person on their team.
a. No hands can be used!
b. If the Kleenex drops, the team must start over again at the beginning of their line.
c. The winning team gets candy.
4. When the students are finished, have them place their chairs in a row and repeat the game sitting down.
5. Finally, have the students all stand in a group on one side of the room. Have the students repeat the
game, but this time, they must walk to the other side of the room and back before giving the Kleenex to
the next member.
**Give extra candy to people who are very encouraging. Don’t tell them why they are getting extra
pieces. Let the advisory figure it out!!**
