Welcome, Dear Friends!
We can hardly believe it’s been 20 years since Mamma’s Hands began!
It started that first night when we went out to feed the homeless in an old
potato chip truck loaded with our kids and closest friends. Today, our
Phone Home Program goes to the streets each week, helping the
homeless reunite with loved ones.
15 years ago, our dream of giving women and their children a safe shelter
from crisis became a reality. Through amazing circumstances, and with the
help and contributions of many special friends, we were able to open the
HOUSE of HOPE. We are proud to say that it has been a home to so many
in need trying to better their lives.
mamma’s Hands is still a group of friends, working locally to give HoPe to
those in need. We have faced a lot of challenges in 20 years, and have also
celebrated a lot of miracles. The constant through it all is the support of
those who believe in our mission and work.
This event – our 14th Dinner & Auction for the HOUSE of HOPE –
is our major fundraiser, and we deeply appreciate your support.

GLASS WORKS
The centerpieces this evening are beautiful hand-blown glass pieces
created by Seattle glass artist Dehanna Jones of Totally Blown
Glassworks. Dehanna is a native of Seattle and was surrounded her
whole life by the art glass of her father’s Tiffany collection and
antique store. This early exposure to the Art Noveau movement has
had a lasting influence on her work. Dehanna studied at Pratt Fine
Arts center in Seattle before opening her own studio in 1997.
You may bid on any of the centerpieces in the ballroom with a
starting bid of $150.

Tonight you and your guests will have the opportunity to bid
for your dessert. We have received many wonderful desserts for you
to choose from, but exactly which dessert will be up to you and your
table guests and how high you all bid!
on your table you will find a sheet where you and your table guests
can each place a bid using your bidder number. Simply write in your
bidder number and your bid amount. All of the bids from your table
will be tallied. The total will be compared with the total from the
other tables in the room.
When the dash begins, the highest bidding table will be called to
come and make their dessert selection first, then the next highest
bidding table will be called to make their selection and so on…
Beware! Tables will be called rapidly and your competition will
physically dash for their dessert and may steal your favorite choice
from under you, so listen carefully for your table number and
make your selection quickly, your table is counting on you!

Celebrating 20 years!
It all started in a small café in Seattle where Denny Hancock shared
a booth with a homeless man and son. That touching encounter gave
Denny a new perspective and a profound desire to help the homeless.
Since that day in 1990, Denny has been taking groups of volunteers
on the mamma’s Hands Bus to interact with the homeless living on
the streets of Seattle.
early on, Denny realized that to help the homeless in a meaningful
way, he needed to go beyond providing food and blankets – he
needed to get them off the streets. In what became the PHONE
HOME Program, volunteers began offering the homeless a free
cell phone call - encouraging them to reconnect with loved ones. As
emotional phone calls became life-lines between the homeless and
grateful loved ones, Denny began working with the families to send
the homeless home. In 20 years, our PHONE HOME Program has
sent over 800 men, women, and teens home to their families across
the USA. And each week, the work continues.

Celebrating 15 years!
Denny & leslie began to notice an overlooked segment of society –
mothers and their children in crisis. many were victims of domestic
violence fleeing a life of abuse. Having left everything behind, they
were homeless, penniless, going from shelter to shelter, frightened
of where to turn and who to trust. They were running out of options,
and losing hope of ever having a safe and stable future.
In 1995, Denny & leslie found a home on a secluded 5 acres that
became the HOUSE of HOPE. With family, friends, mentors, and
supporters, they built a program that gives women and children a
safe, nurturing and loving home where they can heal and rebuild
their lives. Focused on family values, the HOUSE of HOPE
Program gives them life’s essentials: hope and support.
In 2004, a second HoUSe of HoPe was built to meet the ever-
increasing need. In 15 years, our program has assisted over 350
women and their children.

the North Bend community, and an answer to a prayer for the many

mark & Karen have spent countless hours, and supplied expert
service, in a successful effort to keep the mamma’s Hands bus on the
road. It’s hard for me to remember the last time we received a bill
for parts or service rendered on our behalf. I don’t recall ever asking
them for this free service, but I don’t believe mamma’s Hands has
been charged so much as a dime in the past 10 years – and I know they
haven’t lost our address!
mark and Karen share in the effort to make cascade Diesel a success,
and they set a wonderful example in their devotion to family, friends
and community. I feel so blessed to have cascade Diesel so close.
I will never take for granted the genuine labor of love they have so
generously and unconditionally done in our behalf, as well as the fine
example they set to all who know them.

Kelly Trsek
The Gregory Award, given annually by mamma’s Hands since
1996, recognizes outstanding individuals with a giving spirit and
strong commitment to our Phone Home Program. our winner,
Kelly Trsek, a senior at the International School in Bellevue,
has a rare and wonderful devotion and commitment to service.
For the last two years, Kelly has been an important part of our
Phone Home Program, rarely missing a trip out on the bus. She
isn’t shy about getting to know the men and women of the streets,
and often leads the way for the other volunteers.
Kelly is an active volunteer in many areas besides mamma’s Hands.
She is a tribute to her parents, Garig & Julie Trsek, and a shining
example to all who know her. We wish her well as she pursues her
plans for the future this fall at the University of Washington.
