BAKE SALES
(Condensed from EH&S “General Guidelines for Bake Sales”)
Student organizations holding bake sales on the UCD campus are required to obtain prior approval. All organizations
applying for a bake sale permit must be registered with the Student Programs & Activities Center (SPAC). To hold bake
sales at King Hall:
1) Reserve date: https://intranet.law.ucdavis.edu/community/calendar (Room: Table 1 or Table 2).
Upon receipt of emailed confirmation from the Dean’s Office Assistant:
2) Complete the Application for Fundraising: http://spac.ucdavis.edu/forms (one copy only).
3) Submit to Madeleine Fischer (in person at TB31 Walnut Cottage on La Rue Road or place in
accounting mailbox, the lowermost, right-hand corner mailbox by room 1013 in King Hall) with signed
copy of these guidelines.
Permits are normally issued within 24 hours.
The following food items may be sold at bake sales provided that they are prepackaged as individual servings: breads,
cake, candy, cookies, pies, donuts (not cream filled), muffins, pan dulce, etc. Commercially prepared baked goods
must be removed from their original packaging and be individually wrapped. Baked items with cream or custard
toppings or fillings may not be sold, nor items requiring special handling such as refrigeration or heating. Tea or coffee
may not be sold, but may be offered free or with purchase. The sale of any other food item, whether hot or cold,
purchased or donated, is not allowed by University policy (exception: Picnic Day and culture week events, with prior
authorization from the EH&S office and SPAC).
At this time, approved bake sale items can be prepared, assembled, portioned and packaged in private homes provided
good sanitation practices are followed throughout the processes. EH&S inspectors perform periodic inspections of
campus bake sales. In the event compliance with the following guidelines cannot be met, organizers may be required to
discontinue sales until the necessary corrections are made.
1. Sound sanitation practices, such as using clean equipment, must be followed when preparing, packaging, storing,
transporting, displaying and selling bake sale items.
2. Those preparing, packaging, transporting displaying or selling bake sale items must be free of communicable
diseases such as colds, the flu and hepatitis. Their hands and arms must be free of wounds, cuts and sores.
3. Those contributing or participating in the bake sale must wash their hands before working and after each break,
especially after smoking and restroom breaks.
4. Organizers must maintain a list of everyone contributing food items for sale. The list should include each
contributor's name, address and identify the item they contributed.
5. Ingredient information must be available upon request or each item must be properly labeled. Displaying a sign
indicating "Ingredient Information Available Upon Request" and maintaining photocopies of recipes at the bake sale
table is sufficient.
6. All food ingredients must be pure, wholesome, free from contamination and be obtained from approved sources
(i.e., grocery store).
7. All food items and the plates or containers they are served on must be completely wrapped as individual servings.
Clear plastic is a suitable and readily available covering.
8. Eating utensils must be single use and disposable. The utensils must be individually wrapped or displayed with their
handles up to prevent contamination.
If you need assistance interpreting these guidelines, please contact Susan Cummings, EH&S, at
sjcummings@ucdavis.edu
I have read the above rules governing bake sales and will be responsible for ensuring that all persons involved
with the sale are aware of these requirements. I understand that non-compliance could result in cancellation of
King Hall bake sale privileges by the EH&S office.
