  Brass Students In The News
 Alex Grinyer, the recent winner of the Tess May Memorial
 Scholarship, has recently successfully auditioned for the
 National Children’s Orchestra.

 This is a considerable feat at the best of times, made even
 more impressive by the fact that Alex is two years younger than
 the recommended age!

Improve Your Piano Playing
A day course helping you prepare for ABRSM piano examinations in Spring or
Summer term.

Wednesday 23 February 2011 10 am to 4 pm at
MK Music Service in Simpson
Including: one-to-one tuition on the examination grand piano, aural
training for your grade, improve your sight reading session, scale
improvement, exam advice, supervised practice. Concluding with
an end of course performance at 3.30pm (parents welcome to
watch).

Led by MK Music Service piano teachers Maia Griffin and
Jonathan Harris.

Please bring your music, a packed lunch and drink.
Cost £20. Maximum 14 places: open to any children learning the piano (both MK Music Ser-

 This will be the last Music Centre Saturday. ALL Music Service groups will rehearse as usual (even if they
 have already performed in a concert).
 Junior Site: Informal performances to parents will take place in lieu of a concert (information will be available
 from individual teachers).

Rock School - Free Spaces Available
There are a few free spaces available at Rock School this
term.

This offer only applies to vocalists and bassists and is part
of a scheme to offer 10 free places for one term. After this
free term, the Rock School termly cost of £85 will apply
(costs to be reviewed in April).

Students must be of secondary school age. Bassists will
need an instrument.

    We do provide volunteering opportunities suitable for the DOE scheme.
    As a coffee shop volunteer at the Music Service on Saturday morning
    [Shenley Brook End School]. There are a variety of opportunities on offer, to
    apply simply email chair@mkmusicservicefriends.org.uk – it is first come,
    first served and a waiting list does operate [there are 2 on the waiting list at
    present] – remember if we can’t meet your volunteering needs in year 1 [12
    weeks minimum-bronze] we may be able to do so in years 2 or 3 [26 weeks
    minimum- silver or gold].

    As a special events volunteer at the Music Service end of term events [various locations]. This is a
    great way to clock up quite a substantial number of volunteering hours [most suited to Bronze – 12
    hours] over a school year. To apply for the school year 2010-2011 email
    chair@mkmusicservicefriends.org.uk – it is first come, first served although we can accommodate
    quite a lot of volunteers at the end of term events!
