The candidate, given a fire department pumper, and a spotter shall demonstrate the
following driving test: (FDPA/p.p. 73)
This activity prepares the student for skill# 4
Serpentine
These safety procedures are to be performed prior to driving session(s):
Makes 360-degree visual inspection around apparatus
Uses hand rails to enter and exit apparatus
Wears seat belt
Insures no firefighters are in a standing position anywhere on the apparatus
Checks mirror position before moving
This activity requires the student to:
Use good steering techniques
Back an apparatus into position without stopping
Make use of mirrors while backing
Limit contact with obstructions (Example; cones, barrels)
Maneuver apparatus through area of restriction (forward & reverse), while
accurately judging vehicle steering capabilities to pass through openings
