Editorial:
T he name is K.G; Kgaugelo is the full version if you should know. The guy is originally from
Witbank, a small town in Mpumalanga so those of you who are still stereotypical about folkz from
Mpumalanga then eat this…….Just to give you a general background on myself: I am a writer, music
dj, producer and entrepreneur ….yes I am all of these who said I can‘t be? I am also the co founder of the
Afro Dawn Group which just gave birth to the Awe_ness movement which in turn gave birth to this
magazine. As a writer I have just completed a book on Consciousness and Philosophy titled‘ Optical
Illusions‘ which will be coming out early next year. More projects will be coming through as part of
Awe_ness and the Afro dawn Group so watch the space.
For now let me not spoil this editorial article by telling you too much about myself and my future
endeavours.
It certainly goes without question that all of us
have dreams and more often than not, those
dreams lie dormant within ourselves because we
have allowed society to dictate our every move.
We are all born into this system whereby we can‘t
do anything without other people‘s approval, but
has anyone considered how awesome and
fulfilling our lives would become if we could start
depending on ourselves and that small inner
voice. We are all running on some mental
software that has been downloaded in us through
human DNA and there‘s nothing wrong with
humans having some form of culture as a species. The problem arises when powerful men and women of the
world take advantage of the DNA principle by implementing cruel programmes of mass mind control for
their own benefit. This has resulted in the sad current situation whereby the uninformed and sometimes
ignorant masses are chained and incarcerated
in formless mental prisons. Have you ever
asked yourself who gave you your world
view, in other words from whose eyes are
you really viewing the world and the mystery
of life in general? Could it be that since
ancient times members of elite groups have
slowly but surely implemented a plan to
control the human mind, especially the
unaware through clever conditioning of the
mind by using media tools like T.V, Radio,
magazines and other psychological tools like
fear? The curriculum of the school system is
designed in such a way that we stay enslaved
whereby we follow a pattern which ensures
that we don‘t rise to our fullest potential as
5 Awe_ness magazine
we chase after our next pay cheque. What if the entire system including politics, economics, religion and
education has been hand crafted in such a way that we constantly live in fear so that we can continue to be
dependent on our invisible masters? For an example who came up with the banking policies? Who owns the
major media companies? Who runs the world‘s biological and astronomical laboratories? I challenge you to
do some research and you will be shocked at how much the world has moved into a monopoly government,
without us even realising it. This high treason has resulted in teenage suicide, promiscuity, drug abuse and
other social ills because people are trapped in these psychological prisons and somehow they have to find
fulfilment.
I know that this is not a cute way to start a prologue
for a new magazine but the severity of the situation
compels me to first raise awareness, so that I can then
propose creative ways of counteracting this global
problem.
Are you in a job not because you like it but because
you want to survive or are you studying something
because your parents and the rest of society is telling
you to?
When olives are hard pressed; only then can the oil
come out. What I am trying to say is that one gets to a
point where the shackles become too much and you
start to realise that something is seriously not right.
You begin to be aware and you suddenly see things
you never saw, as if you have been given a new set of
eyes.
I had come to that point in my own life and that is
how the concept ‗Awe_ness‘ which represents the
awakening, the awareness or the arising new consciousness of Mzansi youth came about.
You know that there is something that you are here to do but the system says you can‘t do it, you know that
death does not exist but the system says it does, you know that hell does not exist but the system says it
does……..Suddenly you wake up in the middle of the night one night and your inner voice decides to be
loud for once. Right then an exodus of Consciousness begins in your life and you start sensing a revival of
your eternal dreams. You commit to memory what you were as Infinite Possibility before you came into
time. You commit to memory that you are life itself and that you are a unique part of creation that can‘t be
made nor destroyed; you can only be transformed from one form to another as you manifest in different
ways. You know that you have always been and you will always will be. You come to this realisation
suddenly and you feel a strange sense of liberation. You begin to realise that whether they torture you or
victimise you, they are torturing a part of themselves because
life is one and sooner or later your oppressed spirit shall rise.
Now that we have gotten the deep stuff out of the way, let‘s
lighten up the mood a bit. Awe_ness was born from a
Collective Consciousness which is why you feel a strange sense
of relativity as you read these words. You are a part of it and it
is a part of you-Your thoughts, your confusion, your aspirations
and your dreams gave birth to this magazine. It is what you
have been thinking all along but you were not sure if it was
genuine…well it is. You have always known the truth and the
truth has just set you free.
Let us reunite as a Consciousness and come back to oneness,
only then can we fight the forces of darkness that work
6 Awe_ness magazine
tirelessly to overcome us. This magazine is a spiritual sword of a different kind and through it we can all
fight the good fight, not that of faith as you were previously taught but of Awareness. All you need to do is
to be aware because not everything that is, is. Life is not what it appears to be. Join me and the Awe_ness
team as we uninstall old treacherous software, living you with yourself as pure Consciousness that has
always been one with life as you tap into the Source of all wisdom and knowledge to materialize your
dreams.
Break down those ancient barriers and celebrate yourself because you are not what you have been told you
were. The 24 letters of the alphabet are too limited to describe the mystery that is you.
Awe_ness is what should be in your vocab right now……as I present to you the Awe_ness magazine.
Arise oh child of life, awaken to your potential, claim your rightful role in the story of life, be what you were
created to be!!!

THE 2012 SCARE (HOAX OR REAL)?
If you are well informed you will know that there is big hype or should I say…panic
about the supposed end of the world in 2012.These predictions are based on the
calendar of the Mayan civilisation which had an unusual interest in
Astronomy.Through this love for astronomical science they were able to study and
master the behaviour of space objects and created their calendar which was based on
the different cycles of space consciousness. This calendar then is said to be ending in
2012 and all this hype is based on that.I don‘t know how many of you are familiar
with the new world order conspiracy of the Global Elite, but those of you who do
know will also understand how the Global Elite(Iluminati) operate.Remember the
September 11 attacks fraud when the U.S government under Bush‘s administration
killed its own people and blamed it on global terrorism. It is the character of the
Conspirators to use what I call ‗The Problem and Response‘ strategy whereby they
intentionally create a crisis to cause the people to fear and then provide a solution to
the problem they themselves created.By causing the people to be fearful especially by
using complicated scientific explanations on why the world is going to end in
2012,they aim to achieve an element of dependency and trust from the people.
This is more like an evil sheperd who disguises himself as caring for the sheep only to
find that he is a wolf waiting for an excellent opportunity to consume the flock, think
Obama.
The 2012 ‗scare‘as I would like to call it was further fuelled by the movie
‗2012‘which primierd in S.A on the 09th of Dec.This movie is yet another strategy by
the Elite to make sure that indeed people are frightened so that their wicked plans of
world domination unfold as planned. You must understand that the same people who
own the movie companies also own the science research laboratries and world media,
10 Awe_ness magazine
which gives them an excellent way to dictate what information should be poured
down to the uninformed masses.
The year 2012 forms part of a huge milestone in the Illuminatti‘s own calendar of
ochestrating events just like September 11,therefore don‘t be surprised if a fake
Armageddon in a form of an earthquake or something, created by the Conspirator‘s
own scientists takes place in 2012.
A phony website which looks very real was even created by the Elite offering
convincing ‗facts‘ on why and how the world is going to end in 2012. They have also
set up a covert Institute for Human Continuity, which has now agreed to go public and
warn the world that there is a 94 percent probability of "cataclysmic forces"
destroying our planet. Its website offers survival kits and encourages people to sign up
for a lottery to decide who will be among the lucky few chosen to be saved. You are
probably thinking
that this is an
elaborate hoax -
you would be right.
But hundreds of
people have
apparently been
taken in by the
nonsense put out
by Sony Pictures as
part of a "viral
marketing"
campaign for its
film 2012. Dr
David Morrison a
distinguished
scientist at
NASA‘s
Astrobiology Institute said the marketing behind the film was making some people so
scared that he feared they could harm themselves. This sounds to me like the Elite‘s
plan of bringing down the world population from about 6 billion to around 500
million is well on its way as some people will commit suicide as a result. Along the
years they have employed a number of clever methods like AIDS to bring the
numbers down, especially in Africa. Apparently the Illuminati‘s biggest fear is the
people learning about their evil crimes and forming an opposition movement against
them, so the lesser the people the better.
The website that these people created is a big hoax which cleverly mixes real
scientific phenomena with fiction. It is very believable because the internet is a free
world; there are no laws about lying. To give you a background on the scare:
According to the website; scientists have been tracking a previously unknown Planet
X which is on the edge of the solar system and on a collision course with Earth.
Skyscrapers crumble to the ground, fiery meteorites smash into Earth and a Tibetan
monk cowers as a massive tidal wave swamps his mountain retreat.
It is a vision of the coming apocalypse thrillingly captured in the latest Hollywood
11 Awe_ness magazine
blockbuster. Because the whole scare is based on the ending of the Mayan calendar,
my understanding is that when a calendar ends a new one starts so there is nothing
really to be frightened about. What I mean is that nothing will happen in 2012 except
for a shift in universal consciousness from one Zodiac plane to another. Like many
Hollywood blockbusters nowadays, '2012' uses a sophisticated PR campaign which
incorporates elements of 'viral' marketing. Remember what they use to tell us about
Y2K? Same strategy, same people, same lies to create the same impact. The Mayans
studied the stars extensively; they were able to accurately predict the birth of the
universe. Their calendar documents consciousness shifts or evolutions, most
civilizations‘ calendars were created around the sun exclusively. The Mayan‘s focus
on the sun, but they used the sun as a model for our solar system and galaxy‘s orbit
around the universe. The Mayan calendar is sub divided into 13 sections (7 days and 6
nights). When time passes through a section a new consciousness is born. Each
section or stage of evolution on this level lasted 1.26 billion years. The next level
started 820 million years ago and most scientist will tell you that cells had started
clumping together to create basic life forms such as plants. These life forms evolved
into aquatic life, reptiles like dinosaurs and mammals. The dinosaurs died out and left
mammals and 41 million years ago the next level of consciousness evolution began.
The new stage of consciousness saw these life forms sticking together as a family in
order to survive.
This consciousness went through all the stages until the next level: 2 million years
ago. It was during this period that Homo sapiens (intelligent man) developed. The
next level started 1002000 years ago and saw the Homo sapiens advancing from small
tribes to societies.
The next level started at 3115 BC and this saw human kind developing nations and it
was at this level of earth time that Egypt was formed. Each stage of this level (13th
level) lasted 400 years. It was during this level that human kind began writing things
down and history began being documented. At 40 AD, in Rome, Saint Paul began
spreading the message of Jesus Christ and this message nurtured a consciousness of
self-empowerment. The next level began at 1755 AD and it was the beginning of the
industrial revolution. The Maya never predicted these events — they only predicted
consciousness shifts. The 4th day of this level was when Henry Ford began
manufacturing the first cars. 1913 (the 5th day) Einstein published his equation and
epiphany e=mc2. It was also during this section (1924) Hubble created his famous
telescope and discovered the universe is infinite. During the 6th night (1939) World
War 2 started.
12 Awe_ness magazine
The next level began January
5th 1999 and each stage
changed every 360 days. It
was during the first day that
the conspiracy of Y2K began.
Even though this never
happened, and the Maya never
predicted events just the
growth of consciousness; it
showed us that we should
begin to become self-
dependent. The calendar ends
on 21 December 2012; it is therefore now a popular belief that the world will end
then. The planet won‘t end, the world will. The world is to the earth like your mind is
to your brain. They are two separate ideas. The Maya are right: something will happen
on that day, something that will shift our consciousness into new heights. Things are
already starting to happen — global warming and the economic recession (space and
time). It is quite arrogant to think that we are going to completely destroy this planet
with pollution. I won‘t deny that our technology has contributed to the global physical
change, pollution has quickened the pace of this change but it isn‘t the change. The
planet is changing whether we like it or not. The planet has helped clear the way for
different, new and better consciousnesses. The dinosaurs were a consciousness hinged
on physical superiority for survival. It was a good consciousness but it wasn‘t the
best. The planet then changed and it was helped by the universe. The combination of
the ice age and a meteor hitting the planet eliminated the dinosaurs clearing the way
for mammals and then Homo sapiens. We still have that physical consciousness but
also an intellectual consciousness and these two aspects have been combined to
ensure our survival within our species (the world wars and advent of a global
economy). There is an all encompassing plan and this plan applies to everything that
exists. We are aiding the change with pollution, science etc. Science predicts a polar
shift during the time of 2012. December 21st 2012 will also see a winter equinox (the
longest night) from the 21st to the 22nd of December. Astronomically speaking, earth
will also be in line with and we can look directly into the core of the Milky Way. The
equinox and the longest night will also contribute to the consciousness shift, because
our consciousness relies mainly on space and time.
So not only will time be affected but space as well. I think global warming has very
little to do with the ozone layer or pollution, compared to a global change caused by a
polar shift. Certain parts of the world are beginning to have colder winters and other
parts warmer summers. There is also an electromagnetic sheath that covers the planet,
which global warming may be affecting, and this sheath is being lessened. It is also
worth mentioning that our brains are electromagnetic so this could also be a factor in
the consciousness shift. Another factor in the consciousness shift may see the
13 Awe_ness magazine
abolishment of money and the recession is a considerable testament to this.
Economics is a complex thing, but when applied on an individual level, is quite basic
and backward. It serves as a very narrow minded way of categorizing people. It acts
as a very physically thin and flimsy, but psychologically very effective, barrier
between classes. 2012 may see massive spatial and temporal changes and things may
get very physical, so people will be looking out for themselves and not at their pay
slips or CVs. It may see the beginning of evolution on a personal or individual level.
The TV series ―Heroes‖ is an artistic expression of what‘s in the back of the mind of
collective consciousness. The super-human abilities are a metaphor, I think, for what
we may be able to achieve in the near future.

The Maropeng Visitor Centre
The Maropeng Visitor Centre is an
exciting, world-class exhibition,
focusing on the development of
humans and our ancestors over the past
few million years.
On arrival, you will see a massive burial mound called the Tumulus,
which is your entrance to learning the secrets of our ancestry. The
architecture of Maropeng, designed by GAPP Architects and MMA
(Mphethi Morejele Architects), was based on the theme of discovery.
When you approach the site, you see seven concrete fingers or 14m high
concrete columns, signifying the centre, which moves in and out of sight
along its approach. The concrete fingers have words on them that hint at
the major themes of the exhibition, such as ―Imagine‖, ―Explore‖,

MOST HAPPENING DJ:
DJ DIMPLES
Being a dj myself,I just had to include this feature. Remember this publication is
about youth culture and those individuals who are breaking the barriers in their
respective fields. In this exclusive first issue article we profile the ever so rocking Dj
Dimplez. Not only is this guy humble and ambitious but he is also very passionate
about what he does,Dimplez is one of the people that make me proud to be a young
South African as he continues to raise the bar for the rest of us.
First name: Tumi Mooi
Hometown: Diepkloof Soweto
Birthday: 31 August
Dj Dimplez- initially called Dj Tumi when he began his career in 2004. Although his birth
name, ―Tumi‖ did not appeal to Channel O VJ Lungile Radu six months into his career.
During an interview in the channel‘s popular show "Oboma". A lot of names came up
including Tumiza and Tombstone which were all complete ―no no‘s‖. Ten seconds before
lights, camera and action, the name Dj Dimplez came up and that was the turning point of his
career.
21 Awe_ness magazine
This young man in his mid 20‘s always had a distinct love for music. The idea of Djing came
as he attended Joburg held events such as Reality and 115.
This led to him buying his own equipment in 2003 and by 2004 he had joined the Wits Dj
Society. Cramped in their own minute private room, they would often get together and
practice to perfect their skills. Although hip- hop was not big in the Joburg party scene at the
time, Dimplez continued playing this genre and within a few months he found himself playing
for huge crowds
Adamant about seeing his dream through, he landed a slot on an urban music station Metro
fm. The slot, presented by T'bo Touch also saw the likes of Dj Milkshake coming to showcase
their talent. Currently Dimplez plays on the Gauteng youth station ‗Yfm‘ every Saturday night
at 19'30, on a show called ―Double Up‖.
His career has led to him travelling throughout the country playing at different events.
Dimplez has also played in most clubs in Johannesburg and major corporate events which
include ―The Apprentice S.A Finale‖; ―Blacks Only Comedy‖ the list goes on. Earning his
name as one of the top hip-hop djs, Dimplez has played alongside the likes of Dj Fresh, Dj
Cleo, Dj Oskido, Dj S'bu, C-live, Milkshake, Naked Dj, and Dj Kenzhero.
But playing in clubs and corporate events is not the only thing the Soweto born music sage
does. In addition to spinning the decks, Dimplez is a shareholder at ―Landmynz
entertainment‖. The company aims to bring street hip hop to people that know what the
culture is all about but don‘t know how to expose themselves to the market. Through the
company a number of albums have been released including ―Perigo Minas Volume 2‖
currently out in stores. Dimplez says their music has reached people worldwide and touched
the hearts of people in Soweto where he is originally from.
Pop Bottles is his latest events movement. These are Sunday afternoon events that
cater for all types of people that enjoy different types of Hip hop. ―Pop Bottles‖ takes place
on the last Sunday of every month. These sessions have pulled in crowds of over 700 people,
dubbing it one of the most successful hip- hop events in the country.
Dimplez’s versatility has stretched from weddings, to birthday parties, corporate functions,
concerts and clubs. Through the love and passion for hip-hop music, Dimplez has proven that
his future lies beyond this universe.

What’s current in Theatre?
I‘m not a big fan of theatre but some shows are just worth watching, like Bre Rabbit‘s ‗The
lion and the lamb‘ currently showing at the Market Theatre. With Gina Shmukler as director,
this is a well performed piece about the story of Jesus and his life.
The Brer Rabbit stories, which originate as folk tales from Africa and elsewhere, have found
popularity throughout the world for hundreds of years. They are the archetypal trickster tales
– with the protagonist Brer Rabbit almost always outwitting his
enemies. Instead of hitting his way out of a tight situation, Brer Rabbit
thinks his way out – proving time and again that the wit is always
sharper than the sword...
The Lion and the Lamb, the greatest story ever told, will be coming back to the Market
Theatre this Christmas season. The hugely successful musical play, originally created by
Barney Simon and John Kani, has received much critical acclaim over the years and in the
past featured such singers as Sibongile Khumalo, Sophie Mgcina, Gloria Bosman, Wendy
Mseleku and Sibongile Ngoma.
Although the story is biblically-based telling the story of Christ‘s life, The Lion and the Lamb
also incorporates vibrant music from a variety of sources including mainstream Gospel and
Afro-American spirituals. The 2009 season‘s production of The Lion and the Lamb will see
the multi-award winning actor, John Kani; reprise his leading role in a performance that
brings the gospels vibrantly to life.
John Kani will be ably supported by renowned singers Nokukhanya Dlamini and Margaret
Motsage as the lead vocalists. Both are familiar with the roles having performed in a previous
production as part of the Joyous Celebration. Musa Mhlongo will be the production‘s musical
director and support the singers on keyboards.

JUST A THOUGHT, NOTHING MORE
For one to be considered a master craftsman, his work should be preceded by careful
planning, attention to detail and an extra ordinary ability to visualise the impact his
creation will have in the long term. I don‟t know about you but I consider the creator of
the Universe to be a master crafts man, for an example consider the wonders of nature,
the balance seen in the ecosystem and the evolution of life. All this is undeniable proof
that whoever created this must be very intelligent and very wise. If this thought is
anything to go by, is it not probable then that everything that has happened and
continues to happen in this alleged „chaotic‟ Universe an “Omni-scient God” knew and
willed to happen in advance and could there possibly be a mind boggling hidden order
which our finite minds can‟t comprehend? What
if we constantly look forward to a perfect world
somewhere in the future whereas this is the best
possible world there could ever be, despite its
supposed anarchy?
The mere suggestion that God is omnipotent
implies that He has the power to control
everything including the gruesome killings of
innocent children by greedy men of power.
It also hints that He has the capability to prevent
the various natural disasters that have wiped out
millions along the years, but He often chooses
not to, why?
If you could study all the natural disasters that
have occurred in history, you will discover that
almost all of them were followed shortly by one
or more ideal happenings in that part of the
world. Because there are no logical explanations
to the catastrophes themselves, religion then
called them the „wrath of God‟, like the account
of Noah and the killer storm as depicted in the
Bible. What if these supposed tragic events are
necessary for the Universe to stay alive as it is a living thing like us and needs to give and
take away. For new birth to come, the old must pass away.
25 Awe_ness magazine
There is simply no good without bad and no bad without good either, in the same way
there can‟t be life without death.
Most people believe that they want to live forever in this decaying body, but come to think
of it no one wants to really be in the hands of time forever. Eternity has been planted in
our hearts but not in a sense that we shall live in form forever. Our formless nature which
is spirit is already eternal and immortal and it knows no time. Think about this for a
second; right now as you are reading these words you are timeless consciousness that
has always been and will always be. To you as a person this seems like a passing
moment in time but to your true self which is the awareness in between your thoughts;
this is not a passing moment but a moment that has always been before you were even
born. I know that this is a deep thought so you might want to pose and reflect on it a little.
If you could truly be given the ability to be immortal, you would ask God to take the
immortality away soon after you accomplished all your dreams.
The thought of ceasing to exist is daunting but the thought of living forever is even more
daunting if you really think about it...
Death is looked at as something bad and birth as something good but upon close scrutiny
you will see that neither of them is good nor bad, they are essentially the same.
If there was nothing but „good‟ in the world life would be purposeless, stagnant and
boring. In other words life would not be, and all of us would be like unconscious robots
without the awareness of a higher power or creator.
Einstein once said “If God is Omnipotent then every occurrence must also be part of his
plan”; personally I fail to accept that an all powerful God would allow his creation in the
form of humans to mess up his eternal project of awareness. People live in constant fear
because of the countless sermons of looming doom and somehow we are made to think
that we are the direct cause of the world‟s mess, but how could that be?
Where were we say; 150 years ago because the mess had been there all along?
The radical truth is that the Universe is no place for perfection because life is dependent
on two poles, the negative and the positive.
If we are to accept Gods foreknowledge and Omni presence then we should stop being
hypocrites and start considering the fact that they may not be real chaos in the Universe.
The only chaotic thing is probably our thoughts and how we have been programmed to
perceive things.

SHOWCASING MZANSI’S BLAZING BRANDS:
Part of Awe-ness‘s main inspiration as a movement is emergent young South Africans
who are making the mark in their respective industries. In this issue we are profiling
Struss Bob, a fresh clothing label that is currently turning the streets of Mzansi upside
down. If you are a lover of locally produced apparel then you must get a piece of the
Struss Bob movement, as it is currently at the cutting edge of the local street wear
scene.
We got this special interview with Nthato Modiselle the co founder of the brand and
this is what he had to say:
1. What is Struss Bob about and which culture are you trying to portray?
StrussBob (pronounced; Stroes- bob) is a term derived from a South African way of
speaking and it ultimately means ―The Promise of Truth‖. The StrussBob logo takes
everyone back to the innocence of childhood, growing up where the phrase was a part
of daily life when one was vehemently protesting their innocence to drive their point
home. And then there‘s the solemn kind where you made a promise and held the
symbol up to your chest or kissed it, sealing the vow! The logo is a sentimental one to
me and is to others as well, one immediately becomes invested in it because of the
27 Awe_ness magazine
stories and memories it brings, StrussBob belongs to not only the creators and
visionaries but to the people.
The brand celebrates and embraces the beauty of South African and African
languages, heritage, culture and imagery by merging these entities to create a fresh
way of looking at South African urban fashion. StrussBob is not only a clothing
brand, but also serves as a platform to create commentary about South African
lifestyle and bringing colour to this rainbow nation.
StrussBob is proudly AFRICAN.
When the name had been decided, the content and visuals had to be sourced and the
meaning had to be simplified into a single
promise which is now ―The Promise Of
Truth‖. StrussBob had to be unique and
new but also reminiscent of the good times
in our past. We wanted clothing that serve
as a platform for fellow Africans to engage
more with their languages and images that
are impact-full... This has been a journey
and it shows in the StrussBob designs. It‘s
about staying fresh yet still maintaining
that African edge.
The highlight moments for the StrussBob
brand and movement was seeing US
rapper, Mos Def wearing a StrussBob cap
at his event in Johannesburg. This was a
signal that Africa is rich with creativity and
we as a nation can prosper internationally
especially in the entertainment and fashion
industry.
2. Who is behind the brand or rather
who are the main players?
Currently the brand is run by myself alone but it started off with 2 inspired individuals
in the earlier stages of the business, things didn‘t work out so I‘m currently managing
the business alone and as an entrepreneur I‗ve learnt a lot about the real business
world and all its ups and downs .
3. How long has the brand been around and how has the response been so far?
The brand started in 2008 in Cape Town then both partners at the time decided to
relocate to JHB to pursue the dream and focus solely on the business. The brand is
young, relevant, fresh and delivers creativity alongside quality! The response has
been great and steadily the brand is growing at a good pace and also we gaining more
and more loyal consumers!
4. You seem to be well established in Cape Town, any reason for that?
28 Awe_ness magazine
I guess that‘s where the brand was born and that‘s where most of the inspiration was
derived from! It was tough then when we started cos all of our sales were straight
from the boot of a car but surprisingly, sales were great and we had high targets so we
kinda put pressure on ourselves to perform at our peak. Cape Town has probably
inspired most local brands, most brands were born there! The capital of fashion in
SA!
5. Judging from the response, Is
the idea of launching such a
movement feasible in South
Africa?
Depends!!! T-shirts have become
moving billboards! What‘s better than
that? A platform to speak out and share
your ideas and dreams with each
individual you cross paths with!
6. Apart from Jozi and Cape Town
which other areas have you hit
so far?
Currently we distributing to stores in
JHB, CT and PTA but we also have
countrywide distribution agents through an affiliation with Brand Guys Distributors.
7. For catz who are trying to enter the game, what would your advice be?
That making t-shirts is the easiest part of the business, but building the brand and
marketing strategically is the difficult part unless it comes naturally to you. Building a
brand is a business and not a hobby so it needs close attention and monitoring. Hard
work pays off if you work smart and that‘s a fact!
8. A friend of mine likes to say- go big or go home- any plans for a full invasion ,I
mean on an international scale, maybe Africa or even the rest of the world?
I can‘t disclose that yet, but I‘m working on a few things at the moment so lets wait
and see what I cook up for South Africa first.
9. Finally, how can people get a hold of you?
Email me at Nthato19@gmail.com or find me on facebook – Nthato Modiselle and
join the group – StrussBob Apparel.
10. Thank you for taking the time out to speak to us, Struss Bob for sho.
It was a pleasure my man.

Divine Encounters with ‘Miss B’
Greetings to all!
My name is Sibusisiwe Mdletshe aka 'Miss B" born and bred in Kwazulu
Natal, Durban where I grew up to become the young woman that I am. I
would like to consider myself as someone who values spiritual insight and
finds inspiration in sharing that with others, which is what gave birth to this
column. I hope that this will grow to become the kind of intimate platform
that I intend it to be, as we all climb higher and higher in the ladder of
spiritual evolution. Do ensure that you do not miss my forthcoming articles in
this series; I’m a stern believer of predestination meaning that it is no accident
that you are reading these words right now.
More often than not, the topic on spirituality is confused with religion
understandably so of course! Although they co-exist they are not the same!
And as I tackle this topic in various ways I truly hope you'll be inspired and
your hearts will warm up to the new reality of your own realization regarding
spirituality and the ongoing journey to infinity, so be blessed.
As an introduction; in this issue I have prepared this awesome piece of
writing so do enjoy!!
I’m captivated by dreams, lyrics, words, thoughts and obscure visions, I ask myself “how can
words make and break- how can they heal and why do they mean so much?!” Like an addict
runs for crack I ran to words to evaluate and clear my head. It’s when I speak to myself that
the world becomes clear to me; words are life to those that hear them!! Words are wisdom
to those that hear them and live by them. And words mean nothing to those that hear but
do nothing about them!! Wisdom, Word, World-through wisdom the word was spoken and
the world was created!! The power of words lie within the whole universe and that is why
the world is what it is today; it’s confused because the word spoken is not in harmony with
the World! , there are too many words spoken! And all we need is just one Word to make a
difference! This Word lies in the core of who you and I are!

STORE PROFILING :( D.O.P.E STORE)
“Dope maximizes lifestyle”
In this feature of Store Profiling we showcase the simple, yet appealing D.O.P.E Store
situated at the heart of Jozi.We visited the shop and caught up with Andile to get an
inside scoop on what the store is all about……
1. What does D.O.P.E stand for or are you guys generally referring to the
American slang term for hip and happenin?
Yes and No because it actually stands for Designer Original Products Enterprise,
so basically we have here a double meaning word which epitomizes the
movement.
31 Awe_ness magazine
2. So who are the founders?
The Store was founded by me and my partner Lungani and we then established an
affiliation with our many suppliers.
3. When did you guys’ first open shop and do you ever regret doing that?
We first opened shop in April 2009. We love fashion so there are no regrets at all.
Our biggest inspiration is the excellent relationship we have with our suppliers
and we are constantly working on a healthy liaison of trust and interdependency.
4. Tell us more about the D.O.P.E music sessions.
The sessions were inspired by the D.O.P.E lifestyle experience as a whole because
this is not just about the clothes; hence our affiliation with Zulu Boy also triggered
the sessions. We plan on hosting more events because they serve as a networking
platform for artists, be it music, fashion, literature. .whateva u into.
32 Awe_ness magazine
5. Well said! Any advice for catz who want to open up their own stores?
Choose your location properly, this can either make you or break you. You must
also have a clear vision with specific timelines of implementing your strategies.
Lastly you need some serious love for fashion yeah...
6. And how would you define your market?
Everyone who loves fashion. We are trendsetters as you can see with the store
design because true fashion always portrays the future so you must be willing to
go over the edge.
7. Is there space for local designers who want to supply
There‘s always space but local designers must also fit the standard in terms of
quality and the concept or idea behind their brand must easily align with the
D.O.P.E lifestyle experience. Sustainability is yet another vital factor because
clothing design is not just about T-Shirts; Catz should work on producing a range.
8. What kind of stuff do you stock precisely?
We stock a wide range of exclusive
merchandise by brands like Nike, Puma,
Adidas, New Balance, Box Fresh, Supreme
Being, SrussBob, Thesis, D.O.P.E, Onitsuka
Tiger, Notes, Black Origin, Cyril T, FEIUYE
and Vitamin Water.
9. Why should people come to the D.O.P.E
Store?
People should come to the store because we offer a full experience and not just a
POS interaction between a buyer and seller. This is more like a heaven of fashion
as we have created a dream like world of our own that is very real. If you are a
sneaker head you will feel like you are in sneaker heaven and the same goes for
every item in the store. The whole experience is complimented by the music and
design artefacts surrounding the store. Whatever aspect of creative living you love
we put you at the climax of each element.
10. Where exactly is the shop located and how does one get a hold of you.
You can locate us at Shop no3B, 30 Loveday STR (Corner Fox and Loveday),
Marshall Town, JHB. Alternatively you can email us at
iamsodope.store@gmail.com or check out our blog:

MON-SAT : 08:00-18:00, we close on Sundays and public Holidays.
12. Any last wordz?
We truly love what we do especially the collaborations we have with different
brands in the various sectors. It‘s a matter of growing the lifestyle and maximising
every product we showcase, that my friend comes with unexplainable fulfilment.

COVER STORY
AWE_NESS DEFINED: ONENESS OF LIFE
Most of you are probably still wondering what precisely this awe_ness thing is all
about. I have already touched base on the explanation in my lengthy editorial article,
so this cover article is for those who seek an even deeper meaning. The word
Awe_ness is taken from the word ‗awareness‘ which is the awakening of
Consciousness from the dream like state of life. We therefore consider this to have
some form of double meaning because ‗Awe_ness‘ can also be a phrase of celebrating
life from the street word ‗Awe‘. This is on point since awareness comes with an
element of liberation and the goodness of life is then identified.
The above image is made up of tiny particles that are interpreted by our eyes as a
consequential image. We chose this image because it aligns with the purposes of this
article. The reality we perceive with our five senses is not as authentic as it appears to
be because in the most profound sense, life is one and this realisation is what I call
Awareness or Consciousness. It has even been found that there is no such thing as
empty space in the universe; we merely perceive empty space because our eyes can‘t
see the microscopic particles in-between. This is amazing if you can consider the
implications of this thought. When studying the DNA of everything in existence you
will see that everything is made up of the same primary particle. Now if everything is
made up of the same essential material, does this not imply that we are one with
everything in existence. What if ‗earth software‘ somehow caused us to forget what
we were and thus started seeing ourselves as separate from all life and from each
other as human beings? What if all of us are pieces of an incomprehensible Source
that we have traditionally called God?
35 Awe_ness magazine
The law of attraction suggests that we attract whatever we think about the most which
further proves that we are indeed one with everything in existence. Life is
interconnected but in the deepest sense, there is no separation, there is just the one.
It was from this understanding that Awe_ness came forth because when you realise
from the depths of your being that life is one. You will begin to look at things
differently, you will learn to love because you would have realised that you do not
love someone else but you are loving yourself. There is no them and I-There is only
one. The Illusion of separation is a ‗software programme‘ that we inherited and there
is nothing wrong with it as long as the ego does not use it for its own purposes. The
Awe_ness concept is about helping each other as brothers and sisters, black or white,
Christian or Muslim, rich or poor because contrary to our thoughts we are essentially
the same. The story of humanity and the mystery of life can only be understood if
people from all over the globe learn to love despite their many differences. If a fellow
brother for an example is talented and needs a breakthrough in the music industry, let
me help him out if I can. If my fellow sister has been heartbroken and is loosing hope
in life, let me offer that glimmer of hope and tell her that it‘s not over yet because she
is me and I am her. Let me not judge and begin to accept people of all religions, I
need to realise that though we are one our circumstances and backgrounds are not the
same. Let me rejoice when my fellow brother achieves something great because that
is my achievement as well.
Let me not discriminate by race, social status and religion; rather let me learn to
tolerate and watch as the very people I thought were my enemies help me towards my
destiny. If I make it; let me not forget that if my aunt was not there to give me taxi
fare for that interview I would never have been where I am today. Let me not take for
granted the long hours I spent with my friend chatting about our dreams even though
the external reality was opposite to what we were saying. Let me see with my inner
eyes; the grand tapestries of life‘s
interconnectedness and see that all that
has happened to me was but a necessary
catalyst to make me the person I was
created to be.
This is Awe_ness philosophy people
but whatever you do, don‘t mistake this
for another religious doctrine or
conventional philosophical school of
thought. It is far from it, this is life, this
is you before you came into the hands
of time. This is freedom from ancient
formless prisons that have kept you
locked up ever since you lost childhood
innocence. Raise that child within you;
he has been waiting for this moment of
Awareness. As you hear these words he
is moving because this is the language
he understands. Though I have tried my
best to define the Awe_ness concept;
always keep in mind that words no matter how well put are not the truth but merely
point to the truth. Language scholars have since found that all languages originate
from one human language, so words are yet another software. In his book ‗A New
36 Awe_ness magazine
Earth‘ Eckhart Tolle stipulates that just because we call a tree a tree does not mean
that we know what it is ,We have simply covered the mystery by a word. Life is a
mystery therefore everything is ultimately unknowable.
As Consciousness we are certainly more than what we are told we are but even that
can‘t be explained in the level of words. You know that you were there before you
were born but you don‘t remember exactly where you were, of course you won‘t

higher than it, so your mind can‘t understand you because you are not originally of
‗earth software‘. This supposed reality we live in everyday is a high tech version of a
matrix. Even though it seems like everything is happening externally, everything is
happening within your brain which is the central processor of every perceptual sense.
Furthermore there is no such thing as solid objects; it merely appears solid because of
how our senses interpret their vibration frequency because everything is just energy
vibrating at various frequencies.
What you call God is human software, death is human software, pain is human
software; all these things don‘t exist except in your mind. The only real thing is love
which is unconditional and knows no boundaries. This is Awe_ness.

THE 2010 WORLD CUP -WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT
MEAN FOR ORDINARY YOUNG SOUTH AFRICANS?
The ever so anticipated 2010 soccer world cup is a few months away and the
enthusiasm is escalating by the day. Apart from it being the biggest sporting
event in the world which is even bigger than the Olympics, 2010 as a year
has somewhat become a brand on its own.
What‟s the hype about in actual fact and is there something genuine to rave
about?
If you understand the divine significance of numbers you will know that the
number 10 symbolises growth, as it follows the number 9 of new birth.
With this thought in mind, Could there be an authentic connotation about
the year itself or is the excitement purely based on the prevalent happening?
Whatever the case is, the soccer world cup will be staged in South Africa next
year and that on its own is something to be zealous about.
Without taking anything away from the event and the honour that comes
with hosting it, what does this really mean for ordinary young South Africans
though? I for one was very excited when it was first announced that we won
the bid, because I saw it as a lifetime opportunity for citizens of this country
to share their heritage with the entire world. Our country is undisputedly
the most diverse nation in the world with a myriad of cultures, and what
better place to unite the world in sport than here.
39 Awe_ness magazine
To show the world how related and connected we are as the human race, all
South Africans should get a chance to practice their understanding of the
concept of „Ubuntu‟ towards their guests. This could be achieved in the
manner in which we generally present ourselves to them as a people.
Through various art forms like manufacturing, dance, music and fashion we
can all then get a chance to give our visitors a truly South African experience.
The critical question to ask at this point is whether commonplace South
Africans will benefit from this or will all opportunities be contracted to
already established corporations?
If the latter is the case then we really have nothing valid to be excited about,
because what good is an event of this calibre if it wont offer any sustainable
development for the people.
One of the most valuable lessons I have learnt however is that before he
starts blaming and pointing fingers at others, the wise person will always
start with himself and ask” What did I do to contribute to the current state of
affairs and furthermore what is it that I can do to make the situation better?”
I like the „Khomanani‟ catchphrase-“it begins with you‖
Its easy for us to hastily blame people and our surrounding circumstances
when things don‟t go our way because this is part of inherited human
„software „,but change In our lives will only come as soon as we realise that
outward factors have nothing to do with it. In his Quantum Collapse Process,
John F Dermattini postulates that; for every so called negative circumstance
there is always also an equal positive element to it to balance the equation.
We often do not see the positive aspect because we have been programmed
to focus on the negative as we continue to energise it. For every cloud there
is indeed a silver lining, we just need to take the time to look for it.
What I‟m trying to say is that the 2010 soccer world cup is coming in about 6
months. What are you doing as an ordinary South African to ensure that you
get your deserved slice of the pie? If you are a manufacture of bead work for
an example, are you inspired enough to take the initiative of researching
your market so that you can ensure that you are well positioned for
maximum exposure?
Whatever line of business or industry you are in, I command you to start now
if you have not already started getting up your back side to make things
happen for yourself. Don‟t ask me where you should begin because I have
already told you that it all begins with you. When you look within yourself,
your spirit as „Infinite Possibility‟ will start giving you simple ideas you never
ever thought of. This should fuel your aircraft as you begin to fly to heights
you never dreamt of.
Contrary to the popular saying” the sky is the limit” I say the sky is not the
limit and you will only go as far as you believe you can go. As the Hebrew
bible states “As a man thinks so he becomes”

high note:
My Soul Weeps
My soul weeps:
For the young ones born into a world of partitions
Partitions of color, Partitions of economical rank
It weeps: for prospect cohorts who will be forced to conform to a mouldering social system
My soul weeps:
For the many who are put in psychological penal complexes,
Causing them a silent, slow death
It weeps: for the countless souls consumed by suicide because they could take no more
My soul weeps:
For my brothers and sisters living in illusory thought daily
Thinking what they are told is real
It weeps: for the supposed helpless who do not know the power they possess
My soul weeps:
For the unconscious who continue to take life, not knowing they are taking from themselves
For the tyrants who torture the unique beings of creation.
It weeps:
42 Awe_ness magazine
For the millions spellbound by organised religion
Embracing universal deception
It weeps:
For the boys and
girls who are
unconsciously
walking into ancient
traps
For mothers who will
still put in the ground
their sons and
daughters
Due to
unconsciousness
It weeps:
For the universe
repeatedly raped and
abused by its
dwellers
The trees we obliterate, taking away our own life line
It weeps:
For the human race with the suffering it brings to itself
For its judgements and self righteous stances
From all angles I bleed when I think of the many that decayed in cults
Thinking they were doing it for God.

FEEL THE LOVE,WORDS ARE LIFE
43 Awe_ness magazine
ISSUE TOPIC:
Do you think it’s possible for people to be in a long relationship
without any form of cheating whatsoever from either party?
I have since learnt that love is the essence of life, meaning that even though we
believe that material things will bring us fulfilment; we later realise that whatever
fulfilment we get from these things is temporary. Unconditional love is therefore
the only source of fulfilment. There is nothing as liberating as knowing that no
matter who you are and no matter what you have done you are still worthy of
love.
Love as a word and as a concept has been greatly misunderstood which has resulted
in a lot of heart breaks amongst so called lovers. Most of us have always dreamt of
that ‘fairytale type’ relationship with just roses and no thorns, that unfortunately is
an illusion. That Mr right or miss right with no flaws that you are seeking does not
exist.
The point I am trying to make here is that before we can consider tackling our
issue topic as titled above, we first need to understand the concept of love, in other
words we need to know what it is and what it is not.
True love is not self seeking as it is sufficient on its own, it merely wants to give to
the other because it is abundant .Bearing this in mind our previous understanding
of love seems to have been flawed because it is contrary to the true nature of love.
We traditionally sought filling from our partners, only to find that they
themselves needed filling. People cheat because the satisfaction that they thought
they were going to get from their partners did not come and now they were
aiming to seek for it elsewhere. This would soon prove to be another delusion
44 Awe_ness magazine
because love was not meant to be sought but to be given. When you give love
you get love, it is a universal law. In terms of our topic, my personal opinion is
that yes it is possible for people to be involved in a long term relationship without
any form of cheating from either party. It should be noted though that this does
not mean that there won’t be any fighting or quarrelling within the relationship.
True love is made up of two poles, the embracing and the letting go, the giving
and the taking away, the blaming and the praising. This is a healthy relationship in
which two people can get to know each other on a deeper level and thus grow
together. By knowing the other person, you essentially know yourself because we
are one. The sooner you realise this deep within yourself, the sooner you will think
twice before cheating as you would be having an understanding that whatever you
do, you are doing it to yourself. Furthermore the law of karma is fixed so
everything will eventually come back to you sooner or later. As you grasp this you
begin to grow and you now see cheating as something that shouldn’t be done to
the other, which is yourself. Actually you won’t need to cheat because you know
yourself and you don’t need to go outside your relationship to fill that inner void.

day, but let‘s just agree for the sake of this article that indeed there was a historical Adam and
Eve as portrayed in the Bible. What would the world be like today if they did not ‗disobey‘
God by eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil? Would the world be perfect
without sin at all and is a perfect world really possible?
Personally I don‘t think so! Think about this for a moment; doesn‘t it sound a bit coincidental
that Adam, Eve, the tree, the serpent and God happen to be in that place all at the same time?
Doesn‘t this somehow sound like a scene of a predetermined story written by a very smart
author? Bearing this in mind, we can consider that God with His foreknowledge knew that
they were going to eat the fruit anyway which makes this to appear more like a setup. I know
that this is a radical suggestion, but what if Adam and Eve were bound to eat of that tree
whether they wanted to or not?
According to the Bible they started noticing they were naked after eating the fruit, meaning
that they lost their innocence shortly after eating the fruit. If they did not have the knowledge
of wrong or right prior to eating the fruit, is it fair for a just God to judge them? It‘s like
placing a 1 year old near a burning electric stove and telling them that they will get burnt if
they touched the stove. Of course they would, but
why did you put them in that situation in the first
place as they are still immature? Not only that, but
you further tell them that the only way you can
forgive them is if you set yourself up to be killed by
the cops as directed by the government.???
Some people may argue that this was a test to see
how obedient they were, but how could it be a test
if God has foreknowledge meaning that He knew
the outcome in advance.
The apple is a fruit of evolution which means that
had they not eaten the forbidden fruit,
Consciousness would not have become conscious of
47 Awe_ness magazine
itself. In other words we would exist but not know we existed, we would all be dumb things
walking around with no real purpose, simply put –Life would not be life. For people who
consider the Bible to be the direct Word of God this suggestion is an insult, but I am not
writing this to get anyone‘s approval.
In my forthcoming book ―Optical Illusions‖ I fully explain how a place of perfection is not a
place by defining the concept of Utopia. For a place to be a place there needs to be the two
entities that make up life; namely positive and negative, the yin and the yang, black and
white. Without either, we can‘t perceive the other. The idea of perfection implies the
existence of just the one entity; light, white, good, positive which is why part of heaven
imagery includes white robes and light.
So sin pisses of God and separates us from Him because Adam and Eve first sinned by eating
that fruit right? If they had not eaten the fruit, would we have lost the little good we posses
because after all we would not know what we
were doing even though we acted evil. Ponder
on this!
If Adam and Eve did not eat the fruit, God
would have hired other agents to fulfil that role
because self awareness for Consciousness is
dependent on it. By God I‘m not referring to
Yahweh but to the Ultimate Source of life.
The story of Adam and Eve is a recurring theme
throughout the Bible: That God will raise up His
own covenant bearer who according to world
standards is not worthy, yet He will make His
name great. It‘s a Universal principle that those
who are arrogant and want power will be
humbled by life as it exalts the humble.
Therefore Jesus Christ is an archetypal image to
show the oneness of life because ideal occurrences happen to those that are humble. We are
made of the same stuff as the rest of the Universe hence the biblical verse‘ the meek shall
inherit the earth‘. Arrogance is separating your self from life and humbleness is oneness
which brings freedom.
One interesting thing to notice when observing the genealogies leading up to Christ is that
every single one of them is a list of either 7 or 10 names, which resonates with the idea of
oneness because these numbers also represent perfection or completeness. Consciousness is
complete when it is one where people of all races, religions and social status realise that they
are the same.
So the question shouldn‘t really be ―what would have happened if Adam and Eve had not
eaten the forbidden fruit?‖ There is no such thing as ‗if‖. Whatever happened was meant to
happen because God knows all things in advance and knew that for Consciousness to return to
Its Source, life should be two fold.

If you are looking to sit back and chill while sipping a good drink or just to hang
around the right people while having a well prepared meal. Why not do it the South
African way by visiting Sophia Town Bar Lounge? There is no better pick than this
culturally-themed bar lounge based on the legendary days of Sophia town and
complimented by soulful African music to guarantee a genuinely South African
experience.
50 Awe_ness magazine
Situated at the corner of Jeppe and Henry Nxumalo Streets in Newtown, Sophia Town
is amongst the most sophisticated, up-class and afro centric bar lounges there is. Not
only is it renowned for its appealing decor but also for its African distinct chic, this
place is undoubtedly what I would like to call ‗African grandiose‘. If high standards
and world class service are your middle names then this bar lounge is definitely for
you.
Sophia town’s heritage
Sophia town became a legendary and symbolic centre for black culture in the central
town of Johannesburg, where the focus was on religion, arts, politics and
yes…entertainment. Life then was epitomized by dance, music and of course South
African home-brewed beer and food.
Now the spirit of Sophia town is brought back to life through this awesome bar
lounge with a touch of sophistication and class, making sure that the culture of our
grandfathers lives on in everyway imaginable. This bar lounge caters for middle class
and upper class individuals who appreciate the classic way of living. The menu is a
mixture of modern dishes and a myriad of traditional dishes which will cause you not
to miss your mothers cooking too much.
If you are looking for an exhilarating, fun filled and yet calm experience then head to

I stood for like 10 minutes staring at my wardrobe to check exactly what was in it,
trying to understand what I was about and whether my wardrobe portrayed that. While
standing there, I thought immensely on what people, especially men wear and whether
they know what they‘re wearing. This is when I decided to compile this article to help
these modern men not to commit the most dangerous crime that one can ever commit:
The despicable ‗culpable fashioncide‘. Clothes and style in general are an outward
expression of who we are and what we think of our selves, so it‘s essential to wear
what defines our character.
This issue‘s article is titled: ‗IF SHAKESPEAR WAS ALIVE HE WOULD
SAY-thou shalt not!!! So don‘t break the fashion laws by making forbidden
fashion moves.
Here are a few tips on what to wear and what not wear to avoid being sent to the
awful cells of the fashion prison.
No shopping alone: sales people don‘t care what you pick, as long as you get out of the store
with something, so having a reliable friend will help you in choosing the right thing.
A bit of print is good: don‘t be shy to go a little further, a good t-shirt with a logo or a bit of
printed detail is the way to go. Just be cautious not to look like you are advertising a product.
Simple and less isn’t bad at all: nobody wants to look like a punk unless you are a high
school kid. A simple shirt, some good pair of jeans, good shoes complimented by a tailor
made jacket to fit only you- will have you walking with pride. Accessorise if you wish but
modest, a watch or bracelet will do the trick.
52 Awe_ness magazine
Voluminous or too skinny: there‘s nothing sexy about loose fit garments that appear like
you have borrowed them from an obese friend. Know your size and go for something that fits
you well, but always remember to live that smallanyana space to breath. You don‘t want to be
showing us how big your ass is now would you guy?
Don’t be afraid of flush: a lot of guys like dark
coloured shirts and they either go black, grey, brown
or beige. These colours are dull, boring and suppress
your mood. Get a bit of flush into your wardrobe; it‘ll
boost your confidence. We are talking about the
modern man phela here.
Pay attention to detail: don‘t take for granted the
way you throw your scarf, the way you wear your hat,
even the tie knot can be an attention grabber if you do
it well. These put together form part of your outfit,
don‘t ignore them.
Shoes that say YOU: it‘s very easy to judge one by the shoes they wear, and don‘t get me
wrong.Im not talking about brands or prices, It‘s all about their form and style. No cheek
would fancy a guy with filthy shoes that look like they had been stashed away for a decade. A
good pair of clean shoes compliments the outfit for a stylish man.
Cuffs with spikes: one word ―weird‖ please do avoid.
Trend follower: never wear something because someone else has it or looks good in it, it
might not look good on you. Trying to always keep up
with the new brands, styles and trends never works.
You need to have your own unique classic style.
Brand wary: never buy something simply because it
bears an expensive name. Check if it suits you and if it
is worth spending a lot of money on.
That’s it for this edition, be warned the police
are everywhere so don’t get caught!!

How to Become a Fashion Designer
Fashion designing - sounds like a dream job, right? It can also be one of the hardest
professions to get into. But it can be done with hard work. There are many types of Fashion
Designers. Some work for themselves, others work at medium sized companies, and others
work for international businesses. Below are the steps to becoming a great “Fashion
Designer".
Steps
1. Make a list of companies or brands that sell fashion. Find out what country they are
from. Also write what type of fashion each company makes. These are called "fashion
categories". Some examples of categories are: footwear, accessories, junior wear, career
wear. Decide what category interests you the most. Next start a style file or portfolio with
pictures of that type of fashion. If you want to add sketches, that will only add to your
notebook. Also make a list of companies or brands in that category, as well as your most
favourite and inspirational designers.
2. Keep fashion inspiration. Buy a simple cork board and paste, pin and tack
inspirational fashion pictures on it. Put it up somewhere where you will constantly see it,
like your bedroom or a 'studio room' if you're that keen on fashion design and have one.
Buy some folders and file fashion
magazine clippings or computer print
outs in it. Subscribe to
fashion magazines like
Vogue or Teen Vogue and
stay on top of the latest
trends. Keep a little book of
fashion cuttings in your bag
or purse. If you're
constantly surrounded by
fashion inspiration, the
ideas will come flooding in.
But remember - don't ever
copy a fashion piece. Just
54 Awe_ness magazine
be inspired to create your own.
3. Take an art class in drawing and sketching. Learn to draw drapery, to understand
the flow of fabric (how it drapes). You'll start to notice the dark areas in the folds, and the
lighter highlighted areas. If you can find a class that draws people or "life drawing", take
that too. If you can't draw real people, start drawing from photos. Use tracing paper to
trace over the pictures of fashion models. Then slim then even more and elongate them
for dramatic effect. Also learn about color, and mixing color. Know what colors look good
together and how color groups are assembled. Focus on drawing actual fashions, and
perfecting drawing bodies.
4. Get a mannequin that you can pin fabric on, or drape to make designs to see how
they would fit a body. Draping is another word for covering, dressing, or hanging cloth in
loose folds. You can learn about this in a sewing class, or through a fashion school or
program.
5. Learn to sew clothes. Take a sewing or dressmaking class. Study the patterns and
become familiar with sewing pattern shapes. Sew for real people (like family and friends)
so that you get familiar with body shapes and fit. Also learn about fabric. Know what
fabrics are made from (silk? wool? cotton?) and how they are woven (velvet, twill, satin).
And know which types of fabrics are best for your design (stiff fabric, drapey fabric, sheer
fabric, etc)
o
Make clothes for other people. You will learn a great deal
about dealing with a customer and fitting the human body in all its variations
(tall, short, petite or large). You can also charge money for your work.
6. Learn about fashion trends. Visit web sites such as pantone.com to see what colors
are going to be in fashion. Also try to predict what fashion will be popular in the future.
Check out sites like elle.com or style.com
7. Learn how fashion is sold. Is it being sold in stores or online? What are the major
department stores? What stores sell the category of fashion you are interested in? Also
learn about "targeting your customer base". This means knowing the type of person who
will buy your fashions.
8. Get professional training. Many places have public colleges or trade schools with
excellent fashion training. Research it. See if schools in your area have a program in
fashion. Plan to spend at least 1 to 2 years in any fashion design program. Don't feel that
you have to spend a lot of money to get this training.
9. Seek an internship. Ask your teacher or instructor about this, an internship in Paris
or a at design house in NYC would be a fantastic opportunity.
10. Portfolio and Resume: When you graduate, you should have a portfolio of your best
work. Usually these illustrations are of the one category that you are interested in finding a
job in. A good portfolio will sometimes have sample garments too. A good size for a
portfolio is 14" x 17".
11. First job. Think of your first job as 'graduate school'. You won't be the head designer
yet, but you might work for him/her. It will be hard work, long hours, and lots of exciting
times. As you work, you will move up the career ladder, working at many positions and
gaining valuable industry experience. A professional designer has huge responsibilities,
and only a seasoned one qualifies to take on those tasks.
55 Awe_ness magazine
12. Sketch and design. Start at home by sketching down some of your clothing ideas on
a piece of paper and keep them in a special folder or sketch pad. Keep editing it until it's
just right and explore with colors. USE YOUR IMAGINATION, SKETCH DAILY and watch
'PROJECT RUNWAY'!
Tips
Develop a working knowledge of design-related software programs such as Adobe
Photo shop and Illustrator.
Subscribe to fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle to keep yourself up-to-date
with fashion trends. Also consider subscription to trade newspapers such as "Woman's
Wear Daily", or regional papers such as "Apparel News". This is what the pros read, and
you should too.
Learn about historical fashion. Know fashion styles from Ancient Egypt, Greece and
Rome, through the Renaissance, Elizabethan, Victorian and 19th centuries. Know the
important 20th century designers: Chanel, Dior, Poiret and the others.
Learn about ethnic or regional costumes: China, India, Africa, Mexico and others.
Know the styles that people wear around the world, and how current fashion borrows from
those styles.
Go to shops which sell materials and have a good feel to them so you know which
fabric will be suitable for which type of clothes.
Becoming familiar with the computer and research is something that all fashion
designers need to succeed. Try asking some people that you know who know their way
around computers to give you some great tips. Cut bits of fabric that you like and buttons
and lace etc. and make a collage and maybe frame it.
Take classes in sketching and fashion illustration. Your ideas will usually be
presented in sketch form. Computer aided drafting (CAD) is another useful skill.
Professional designers get ideas on their own time. Work hours are spent dealing
with vendors, fitting models, publicity, production schedules and problems. It would also
be useful to carry a camera (it can be a cheap one, it's just so an idea will stay in your
mind) around with you, in case you are inspired. And be prepared to be- any designer will
be inspired by the littlest things, so start snapping and sketching your ideas.
Be aware of how far in the future the fashion industry works to produce new styles.
When fall merchandise is being shown in the fashion mags, spring or even the season
after it is the focus of the designer. The color forecasts are a year ahead.
Watch "Project Runway".
Always remember there is nothing that you can't do so don't give up.

Greatest inventors in history
Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was born in 1642 in a manor house in
Lincolnshire, England. His father had died two months
before his birth. When Isaac was three his mother
remarried, and Isaac remained with his grandmother.
He was not interested in the family Farm, so he was
sent to Cambridge University to study.
Isaac was born just a short time after the death of Galileo, one of the
greatest scientists of all time. Galileo had proved that the planets revolve
around the sun, not the earth as people thought at the time. Isaac
Newton was very interested in the discoveries of Galileo and others. Isaac
thought the universe worked like a machine and that a few simple laws
governed it. Like Galileo, he realized that mathematics was the way to
explain and prove those laws. Isaac Newton was one of the world’s great
scientists because he took his ideas, and the ideas of earlier scientists,
and combined them into a unified picture of how the universe works.
Famous Quote-The seed of a tree has the nature of a branch or twig or
bud. It is a part of the tree, but if separated and set in the earth to be
better nourished, the embryo or young tree contained in it takes root and
grows into a new tree.
Great Men Of History
Mahatma Gandhi
57 Awe_ness magazine
Mahatma Gandhi was the charismatic leader who brought the cause of
India's independence from British colonial rule to world attention. He
powerfully demonstrated his philosophy of non-violence, for which he
coined the term Satyagraha, as one of the most powerful tools uniquely
available to the masses for lasting peace.
By means of non-violent civil disobedience, an idea he developed from the
teachings of Leo Tolstoy and Henry David Thoreau, Gandhi helped bring
about India's independence from British rule. This inspired other colonial
peoples to work for their own independence, ultimately dismantling the
British Empire and replacing it with the Commonwealth of Nations.
Gandhi's principle of Satyagraha (from Sanskrit satya: truth and agraha:
request "a justified demand"), often translated as "way of truth" or
"pursuit of truth", has inspired other democratic activists, including Martin
Luther King, Jr. He often said that his values were simple; drawn from
traditional Hindu beliefs: truth (satya), and non-violence (ahimsa).
Famous Quote- A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks,
he becomes.
Greatest Criminal Of History
Adolf Hitler
Adolph Hitler was the most infamous political ruler of the twentieth
Century. Hitler rose from obscurity to become the leader of Germany in
the 1930s and 1940s, triggering World War II because of his
expansionist foreign policy. Moreover, as the philosophical and political
leader of the National Socialist (Nazi) Party, Hitler implemented
government policies based on anti-Semitism and racism. These policies
became more severe over time and lead to the mass extermination of
Jews, racial minorities and other groups. Though Hitler committed
suicide in the last days of the war, many of his aides were convicted at
the Nuremberg Trials for war crimes against humanity

REVIEWS:
MOVIE
‘’This is it’’
By: Sam Ndlalane
I‘m not a big fan of Docu-Films but I must say this one
was really good. I was sceptical at first and tried as hard as
I could to avoid watching it but couldn‘t keep away from
it.
The movie showcases Michael‘s talent both as a musician and an artist. This guy
knew his music in and out and could pick up the slightest of mistakes in the keys and
instruments. He knew every beat, sound, tune and the different key notes to each of
his songs. I think that‘s one of the things that set him apart from his peers. He was in a
league of his own…literally. He did have a bizarre sense of style though. The outfits
he wore on stage didn‘t do his grade A status any justice. He was like something from
a Star Trek movie… or a being from another dimension.
The direction of the film was brilliant, with the director capturing a side of Michael
very few people knew. You couldn‘t tell that he was a 50 year old when he was on
stage. I did however notice that he was much stiffer and slower than he used to be
without taking anything away from him.
He did very well in making the movie feel like a full feature in that when one watches
it, it‘s almost like they are watching a musical of the whole thing and not a
documentary.
I think many of Michael‘s fans will enjoy it. For those who didn‘t think too highly of
the guy, it‘s still a good reason not to stay at home and watch Generations.

GADGETS
NEW MACBOOK PRO
I am not going to waste page space going on about that whole Mac or PC story so let‘s just
get on with the review of this masterpiece by Mackintosh. Since the beginning this company
has been on the cutting edge of innovation and design, so it‘s no surprise that their latest
offering to the notebook market is yet another hit. The most momentous feature on this baby
is probably the new unibody enclosure. This entails that instead of the configuration being
made out of many parts, it only
consists of a seamless enclosure
(unibody) carved from a single
piece of aluminum. Up till now
notebooks had been designed the
same which is why the MacBook
Pro designers consider this a
breakthrough in the industry. If you
own a MacBook or if you had an
opportunity to explore one
somehow you would have noticed
the quality of the screen display.
This is because LCD displays
usually use cold cathode fluorescent
lamps, or CCFLs, to create light and
project a picture onto a screen.
These lamps take up a lot of space
which is why the screen is so thick; furthermore the lamps take time to warm up for them to
reach full brightness. To curb this problem Mac has used LED backlight technology for the
MacBook Pro which takes you to maximum brightness immediately. My favorite feature
however has to be the Multi-Touch Trackpad. The track pad has no button because the entire
surface serves as an all inclusive one touch button, how nice? Because Apple designs both the
hardware and the software for the MacBook Pro, it‘s easier to improve things like energy
efficiency. Software tells the hard drive to spin down when it‘s not in use. It tells the display
and battery indicator lights to dim in low-light conditions. And it helps decide whether the
60 Awe_ness magazine
CPU or the graphics processor would be best suited to the task at hand. That‘s the kind of
smart, integrated design that sets MacBook Pro apart from other notebooks. There‘s a lot
more that can be said about the MacBook Pro but seeing as I‘m no computer expert-I will just
advise you to get yourself one of these and try it out if you can afford it.
