Public Sector Transformation using

Lean

Date: 11th November 2011

Location: Great John Street Hotel, Great John Street, Manchester M3 4FD

Time: 08.45am - 12.30pm

Both economic and political pressures are forcing public sector and not for profit organisations to

re-evaluate the services they provide and how they deliver those services.

Lean Systems Thinking allows organisations to improve service quality and reduce costs

simultaneously.

The purpose of the seminar is to explore the critical success factors for public sector

transformation using Lean Systems Thinking. We will examine the applicability of Lean, use

examples to illustrate the scope for transformation in different public sector settings, demonstrate

the steps and key tools involved and consider how to get started.

Implementing Lean in any public sector or not-for-profit organisation is not always a smooth

process often due to cultural challenges. In our experience it’s less about the suitability of Lean

and more about how it is implemented. Ad Esse specialises in helping public sector organisations

understand customer value, streamline processes and reduce waste.

The topics we will cover are:

• What does Lean in a public sector setting mean?

• What can Lean deliver?

• The main elements of a Lean approach.

• Lessons learned from previous public sector implementations

• How to start a successful Lean journey.

The seminar will be an interactive and lively experience with a simulation that clearly

demonstrates the sometimes counterintuitive principles of Lean. There will be plenty of time

to ask your questions and get what you need by way of understanding.

WHO WILL LEAD THE SEMINAR?

Ad Esse Consulting will share with you some of their learning and experience from assignments

spanning over 15 years. They have worked extensively across both the public sector (including

Criminal Justice, local authorities, central government departments and healthcare) and many

sectors from within the private sector. This session will be run by one of our Directors; Philippe

Lacey or Beverley MacIntyre, both of whom are twenty year transformation veterans who have over

many years helped public sector and not-for-profit organisations apply Lean Systems Thinking.

WHY AD ESSE?

• We have many years actual experience in challenging public sector and not-for

profit organisations and specialise in using Lean in a bespoke way.

• We have an informed and intelligent approach to improvement based on sector

experience.

• Our interest in the client lasts beyond the project; we are interested in long term

improvements, not short term financial gains.

• We take organisations to places they didn’t think they could go.

• All our consultants have implemented change for real in challenging situations

and can manage to work in paradoxical situations.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Leaders and managers within the Public Sector who want to know how Lean can drive sustainable

performance improvement in their operations despite budget cuts.

FEEDBACK ON PAST EVENTS

In the last 6 months we have achieved a 100% satisfaction rating for all of our Lean events. We

always seek attendee feedback and here are some comments on recent events.

“This was the best course I have been on in a very long time. The content left me feeling inspired

to go and put this into place where I work, and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. What surprised

me the most was just how totally practical it was all made to sound. The consultant was excellent,

and should be highly commended on his delivery.”

“The material was interesting, well presented, easy to understand, compelling and delivered with

verve and enthusiasm by an expert who not only knows his subject but loves it too. In short this

was some of the best training I’ve ever had anywhere in my professional life.’’
