Rules for Histograms



Y axis set up ( vertical axis)



Use these steps to figure out how high to make the bars.



1. Construct a stem and leaf plot.

2. Find the mode. ( The one with the most trials.)

3. Count the number of trials in the mode.

4. Divide this number into the number of lines on the y axis.

5. This number is the interval spacing for the y axis.





X axis set up ( horizontal axis)



Use these steps to figure out how wide to make the bars



1. Count how many numbers you have in the data set on the stem and leaf plot.

2. Divide this number into the number of lines along the x axis

3. This number ( your answer) is the interval spacing for the x axis.
