Making Changes! Upcoming Board
Meeting Dates
This month, Cal-Diego PVA is moving in a different direction. In an
effort to go green and be cost conscious, we are printing and mailing Board of Directors meetings are
the Beachcomber on a bi-monthly basis. In between, the chapter will scheduled for the Second Thursday
publish a supplemental newsletter to keep you up to date with events of each month
and more. The same information will be disseminated; however, April 14th 2011
we will minimize our big mailings. Further, we will post all of our May 12th 2011
information on the chapter website (www.caldiegopva.org) and post
news worthy updates, tidbits, and conversations on our Facebook page.
As normal, you will be able to find this and previous editions of our
newsletters at http://www.caldiegopva.org/pages/archives/newsletters.
php. Thanks to Jose Lara, Cal-Diego PVA’s website is current and
filled with information. Dave Jensen will continue to post messages
on Facebook each day, bringing you new and updated information on
Chapter and community events.
So, bear with us while we change our format. This is an exciting time
as we begin to preserve, cut back, and save!

2011 National Disabled Veterans
Winter Sports Clinic
By: Alisa Curtis RT Intern
The National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic celebrated its 25th year promoting rehabilitation by
instructing nearly 350 Veterans with disabilities in adaptive downhill and cross-country skiing, and introducing
them to a number of other adaptive recreational activities and sports. 14 participants from the San Diego area
attended the clinic this past week in Snowmass Village, Colorado, some seeing snow for the first time. The clinic
was highlighted with Vice President Joe Biden speaking at the opening ceremony, a variety of evening concerts
including Chubby Checker performing The Twist, and The Taste of Snowmass where participants got to enjoy
great local food. Throughout the week Veterans enjoyed the nearly two feet of fresh snow on the slopes through ski
lessons, skiing with friends, and testing their skills
with a race at the end of the week. Off the mountain
Veterans were given the opportunity to participate
in snowmobiling, rock climbing, scuba diving,
fly-fishing, curling, and sled hockey as well as trips
to Aspen and Glenwood Hot Springs for the day. The
clinic wrapped up leaving participants with friends,
experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime
and at least tide them over until next year’s clinic.
