DO YOU HAVE DIABETES AND ARE CONSIDERING WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?
Study Type Diabetes Remission after Weight Loss Surgery
(IRB#: 10-060, approved August 3, 2010)
Study Purpose Learn about the benefits of surgery on your body composition, the hormones
that control insulin secretion, appetite and diabetes remission
Study Design 3 half day research visits
Day 1: Glucose Drink Test and D-xylose Test
Day 2: Intravenous Glucose Test and Lactulose Test
Day 3: Intravenous test for insulin Sensitivity and Body Composition
Study Anyone between 21 and 60 years old
Qualifications With Type 2 Diabetes
All ethnic groups welcome
Willing to be randomized to Gastric Bypass or Vertical Sleeve
Gastrectomy surgery.
Study Duration 3 half day visits before surgery and at 1, 3, 12 months after surgery (12 visits
total to the hospital)
Study Benefits Learn more about your insulin secretion and how your body composition
changes after bariatric surgery and help understand why bariatric surgery may
prevent and often “cure” diabetes.
You will receive up to $990 in compensations for your time.
