Ely’s Summer of Music 2008
Summer is approaching and so is this year’s series of Saturday afternoon bandstand concerts in
Ely’s Jubilee Gardens. Once again ADeC (Arts Development in East Cambridgeshire) are
working with ECDC to stage seven concerts throughout July and August to entertain visitors to
Ely’s waterside. From 2.30 – 4.30pm the gardens will come to life with music ranging from
classical and folk to rock and pop. As with previous years the concerts will be free and there
should be something for everyone.
The series kicks off on 12 July with rock and pop music from Generationz, 19 th July sees the
return of popular local folk act Eel Pie and 26th July will mark the bandstand debut of White
Winos with their acoustic tunes. On 2nd August Fenland Jam will take over the bandstand and
invite musicians of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get up and have a go. The 9th and 16th
August will see classical music from Steve Bingham and Ely Sinfonia respectively and on 23 rd
August the Riverside Blues Collective and The Grace Brothers will bring proceedings to a close.
Nathan Jones, events manager from ADeC said: “We have been running these concerts for
several years now and they are always very popular. The jubilee gardens make a lovely setting
for these events and a great place for the community to gather together to support some local
musicians. For a couple of hours every Saturday the events provide a nice focus for all the dog
walkers, sunbathers and children in the play park. Bring a picnic and a blanket; hopefully
umbrellas will not be required!” For full details of other music and leisure events taking place over
the summer see the ADeC website www.adec.org.uk
