The Ministry of
Encouragement
The Ministry of Encouragement
Acts 20 (MsgB) 1 With things
back to normal, Paul called the
disciples together and
encouraged them to keep up
the good work in Ephesus.
Then, saying his good-byes, he
left for Macedonia.
The Ministry of Encouragement
2 Travelling through the
country, passing from one
gathering to another, he gave
constant encouragement,
lifting their spirits and charging
them with fresh hope. Then he
came to Greece.
The Ministry of Encouragement
1 Thessalonians 5:11
“Therefore encourage one
another and build each other
up”
Col. 4:8 (MsgB) I've sent him
(Tychicus) to you so that you
would know how things are
with us, and so he could
encourage you in your faith.
The Ministry of Encouragement
The basic Greek word,
parakaleo, used in 1
Thessalonians 5:11, appears in
several forms in the New
Testament. At times the word is
translated “to exhort, to
admonish, or to teach”, at other
times, “to beg, entreat, or
beseech.” It is also translated
“to console; to encourage; to
comfort.”
The Ministry of Encouragement
But the basic word is always
used for one primary purpose
—to describe functions that
will help Christians to be built
up in Christ, or to help them to
build up one another in Christ.
The Ministry of Encouragement
Ephesians 4:15 “we will in all
things grow up into Him who is
the Head, that is, Christ”.
Titus 1:9 “must hold firmly to
the trustworthy message as it
has been taught, so that he can
encourage others by sound
doctrine and refute those who
oppose it”.
The Ministry of Encouragement
2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the
Word; be prepared in season
and out of season; correct,
rebuke and encourage—with
great patience and careful
instruction”.
The Ministry of Encouragement
1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 ...dealt
with each one of them, just as
a “father deals with his own
children, encouraging,
comforting, and urging them to
live lives worthy of God”.
The Ministry of Encouragement
1 Thessalonians 2:13 “We also
thank God continually
because, when you received
the Word of God, which you
heard from us, you accepted it
not as the word of men, but as
it actually is, the Word of God,
which is at work in you who
believe”.

This is why Paul wrote to the
Colossians, “Let the Word of
Christ dwell in you richly as
you teach and counsel one
another with all wisdom”
(Colossians 3:16).
