Consumer Product Testing

Your first major project is to conduct a consumer product test following the

Scientific Method. You will design an experiment to test a consumer

product, carry out the test and present your results. The majority of work

for this project will be done at home. To assist you with the completion of

this project, I have developed some due dates, which are stated below. I

have also developed a checklist (stapled to the inside of your folder) to help

keep track of your progress. I am positive you will not wait until the last

night to complete this project because that would be very upsetting for

everyone involved.

Important Dates:

October 4 Project Explained in Class

October 6 Final product choice and guardian signature

October 10 Basic product information due (cost, manufacturer, brand

names, etc)

October 11 Consumer Product Testing Research Sheet (most of this

will be completed in school on October 10)

October 13 Hypothesis and Procedures due

October 13 Begin the experiment at home (you have one week)

October 20 Evidence data has been collected (data table)

Experiment should be complete.

October 25-27 Organize data in computer lab (hours 4,5,6)

October 30 Projects Due

Oct. 30, 31, Nov 1 Presentations (Families are welcome to come!)

PROJECTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED LATE!!!!

Consumer Product Application Sheet

(Final Project Choice and Guardian Signature, Due: Oct 5)

Science projects will be approved on a first come first serve basis to

eliminate repetition. No more than two students per class may choose the

same topic. Please use the form below to select three workable science

experiments. Project ideas should be stated as a problem (question). Ex.

Which brand of paper towel absorbs the most water?

Please remember that safety is a major issue with science projects. If you

are involved in any activity where safety is an issue, your guardian must be

present during the experimentation process. (Kids only ) This project is

not meant to be an expensive one. Please encourage your child to test

products currently used in your household or those that can be borrowed

from family or friends.

Please sign below indicating your understanding of the project criteria, due

date and completion of the application sheet. Thank you!
