Worth listening to

Story line

An old man is trying to describe his past to someone who will understand him and his

trauma throughout the war, and having to adapt to modern life.

As an old man, the newer generation won’t particularly listen to him. They just simply

aren’t interested in his stories he has to tell of his past and the war.

The old man set his sights on being able to tell and for someone to understand his

problems of loneliness, and that his final wishes were for someone to remember him,

as he does not know who his family are.

Story Line 2

A boy, from a poor estate, Lives with his dad, mother died in car accident, nice caring

child and father. They need to get money to pay rent, and they have 1 week to get the

money, so the child is excused from school to find a job to help pay the rent. After

sitting eating a sandwhich for lunch throughout his day looking for a job he keeps his

eye on an old man, who is very friendly and tries to talk to passing strangers. The boy

figures out that the old man is lonely. The man then sits down on a bench and the

child goes to talk to him, the man then lights up and a smile is put on his face as he

has found someone to talk to and someone who will listen to him. The man starts

talking about his history and his life, fighting in the great war, being injured and being

flown back to England. He talked about his family about having an only child.

Throughout the conversation the old man then mentioned the name Wilkinson which

upon the boy replied that he had heard that name somewhere before. The boy then

told the old man he had to go look for a job, however told the man to meet him at the

sandwich bar at 12 noon the following day. The boy went home to find that he has in

a picture frame on the wall with the words Wilkinson – The passion and the brave.

The next day the boy met the old man who was well on time meeting him at the

sandwhich bar, which the boy explains about the words in the picture frame on his

wall, the old man interested started asking about his family and what happened to his

mother. The boy then explained what happened to his mother. The boy then asked

about his child, he said he had a daughter who died in a car crash not long after she

was married. The boy and the old man didn’t think that it could be possible that they

could possible be on about the same person. The old man who lived on his own, never

went to his daughters funeral as it was the year of his wife’s death also, and was too

saddened by the news to show up. That night time the boy went to look at his family

tree which , went from himself, to his father and mother which then branched from his

father to his mother and father, and from the boys mother to a mother…. And an

empty space. The boy then realised that he didn’t know who his grandfather was on

his mothers side. Reading the names on the family tree he read his grandmothers

name, Jenny Wilkinson. The boy who arranged the meet the old man again the next

day, started asking about his wife. He said they had known each other since school

and that the loved each other very much. Further down the conversation the boy asked

her name. The man replied Jenny. The boy in shock said, .. Jenny.. Wilkinson? And

the man replied and said he was correct. The boy then went on to ask the name of his

daughter. He replied Sarah, which was the boys mothers name. The old man then

asked the boys name. he replied Tom Thompkins. The old man stunned replied oh

my. The boy nervously asked if the old man was his grandfather. The old man replied

quite possibly. The boy invited the man back to his house that evening. With 1 day

left they needed the money for the rent. The old man stepped foot in the door to find

his father staring at the man, asking if he knew him. The man replied he was Sarah’s

father, and he had been meeting his son and talking to him. The man then saw the

family tree above the fireplace, which then confirmed that this was his family. The

man said that the boy said you have had financial problems. The boys father agrees

and says he has a day to pay or they kick us out the house. The old man reassures and

says that he has done what he came looking for. The old man then explains that he

came looking for someone to be his aire for when he dies as he has been diagnosed

with a life threatening condition , and went searching for family. The family then

realised the old man had hundreds of thousands of pounds saved up.
