Hello Teachers,
This is going to be a good semester where you will increase your computer skills & learn how to
use technology in your workplace. Don’t be afraid because I will help you all the way thru SPSE
3220.
Plan on being on time & staying the full time…..we need every minute to get you ready to
handle this course. You can work ahead on your own & finish early. Please look at the Due
Dates Page to see what dates you must attend for a lecture (has no bearing on the webpage
project).
Here are few VERY important items for you & me:
1. I am VERY chemically sensitive to perfumes & colognes…. even ones you used the
day(s) before. These items along with hair spray & cigarette smoke on clothes really
make me sick. So, I am asking that you do not wear/use any of the items on the day of
your class. For my own safety & health, I reserve the right to ask anyone who has
violated this request to leave the class . Or, if the exposure is too great & the fumes too
strong, I will cancel class to avoid an extensive illness. I just recently recovered from an
episode at a Bed & Breakfast where they used a fabric softener “Downey” all the towels
& sheets …. Even after rewashing them twice, the fumes still made me sick. I was sick
for 6 or 7 days. Men, the spray on “stuff” some of you are using is the worst of all.
2. Please bring a flash drive (USB) to store your data. Any flash drive above 1GB drive
should be enough to hold all of your work. The 1 GB usually can be bought for $10 to
$15 ……DO NOT COME WITHOUT THIS!
3. We are using 2007 WORD, PowerPoint, Excel XP…..if you are using a previous Office
there are special instructions which we will cover in class, or if you are using a MAC
there are some problems we need to discuss individually. We are using a FTP
(WinSCP) program which is a free download from my website. You will be expected to
use a flash/USB drive & have the WinSCP program installed on it (PC users)
4. We already have your webpage account setup on “frank” with a special password that
cannot be changed until after the semester is over. This will help me help you thru the
complications of transferring web files & folder over to your frank account. Do not
change this password during this course.
5. Getting help with your assignment is OK, however, you are expected to learn how & to
perform your own work. We have an honor code in this course regarding cheating….
Copying someone else’s work will not be tolerated & will result in an F for the course.
6. You will be required to use your MTSU email during this class & I will not answer
emails from other MTSU email accounts. It is imperative that you read your MTSU
email frequently so I can send message to the entire group without having to try to keep
up with 65-70 secondary email addresses. This is important during this time with the
possibility of snow, etc.
7. I suggest you look at the website: http://mtweb.mtsu.edu/jsanders/322-5-4-09.htm
before the class & read the sections “About the Course.” .
8. No book is required for the course.
9. We start on time (the classroom is on the 2nd floor of the LRC 101B (actually on the 2nd
floor) is located next door to 24. You may enter thru the double doors in the lobby & the
climb the steps). …..
10. I can usually help you in-class or via email; however, if that does not work. Sometimes
the webpages/pictures do not show up because they are put in the wrong place…. I can
solve 99% of these problems for you & help you understand what is happening.
11. There are penalties for late posting & for skipping any class.
12. When you email me ALWAYS put your name & project section in the subject section.
Also, when replying to an email from me, or anyone else, please setup your email to
include the previous emails regarding that subject.
13. Read the sections listed under “About this Course”.
14. If you are using a MAC, please be ready & willing to use the PC platform for some of
these sections. We do not offer instructions for the MAC, however, the Microsoft Word,
Excel, & PowerPoint work very much the same as the PC version. The problems lie with
the “File Transfer Program” (FTP). We use WinSCP for the PC, however, there are
different programs for the MAC.
I look forward to seeing each of you on the on 8/30/11 @ 11:20 sharp. Start early because
parking is always a problem.
Using your MTSU WebMail, send me an email acknowledging that you understand the
conditions included in this letter. jsanders@mtsu.edu
