SB Spring 2011-15 Approval of Wyrick Guidelines for Student Body Elections

1 WHEREAS the Student Government Association of Missouri State University is the
2 official voice of the student body; and

4 WHEREAS a need exists for an update to the current edition of the Wyrick Guidelines,
5 which possess numerous references to legislation which no longer exists, call for
6 adherence to practices that have never been followed, and are not updated to reflect the
7 use of the Internet in SGA elections as well as when publicizing Commission meetings;
8 and

10 NOTING that the Wyrick Commissioner Brett Foster presented the updated Wyrick
11 Commission guidelines to Senate during open forum on March 15, 2011; and that the
12 recommended amendments have been available to senators for further study, and
13
14 FURTHER NOTING that Section XII of the current Wyrick Guidelines states,
15 “Amendments or changes to these guidelines shall be ratified in the same manner as
16 amendments to the SGA Constitution”; and

18 REALIZING that Article VII Section 4 of the SGA Constitution states that amendments
19 shall only be ratified after approval by three-fourths of the senate seats filled and a majority
20 vote in the student body general elections; therefore

22 BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Student Government Association of Missouri
23 State University approves the modified version of the Wyrick Guidelines to be voted
24 upon for approval by the student body of Missouri State University during the April 4th
25 – 6th general election, in accordance with the procedure for amendment to the
26 Guidelines as specified in the current edition of the Wyrick Guidelines.
