The Truth About Oreo Cookies
Objective: Using Oreo cookies and Double Stuffed Oreo cookies, you will determine the mass
and compare each one in order to answer the following question - Are the double stuffed cookies
really double stuffed, or perhaps in order to save money has Nabisco shorted the amount of
double stuff cream filling.
1) Write a hypothesis comparing the mass of these two types of cookies - This hypothesis will
be proved or disproved after all results have been received from all participants and averaged as
a whole!

Fun Facts
The 345 billion Oreo cookies sold to date would fill up the world's largest freight train,
consisting of 660 freight cars, more than 45 times.
The St. Louis Arch (630 feet) is 15,120 Oreo cookies high.

placed side-by-side, they would encircle the earth 381 times at the equator.
If all the OREO cookies sold to date were stacked on top of each other, the height of the
stack would be equivalent to the height of 9.8 million Sears Towers. The Sears Tower is

In order to keep up with this voluminous demand, the Oreo cookie recipe calls for 18 million

Conclusion
If the mass of the cream filling of an Oreo cookie and a doubles stuf Oreo cookie were
measured, then the cream filling of the double stuf Oreo cookie would be less than that of the
regular Oreo cookie.
My hypothesis was correct. After taking the mass of four Oreo cookies and four double
stuf Oreo cookies, the mass of the double stuf Oreo cookie was significantly less in all samples.
In order to make this experiment more accurate, I would incorporate Oreo cookies of all
types. I would try the seasonal cookies and cookies from other stores. I would also try cookies
from other countries and see if there were any discrepancies with them as well.
