Flash Research: Xbox Live
Say that you are sitting down after a long day of work to play your favorite Xbox game.
After about an hour you realize you wanted to order food from your local delivery service but
you do not have any cash. With over 20 million Xbox Live users, I can guarantee this scenario
occurs quite often. If we developed an application that would allow these customers to order
local home delivery services directly from the Xbox Live Marketplace, we could easily generate
revenue as many delivery services and their patrons would be attracted by this service’s
convenience and innovative features.
We should build a separate digital environment housed within the Live Marketplace
through which delivery services can post and update interactive menus. Customers will be able
to search by zip code for local take-out and delivery services for almost any item such as beer,
flowers, or chocolates. These establishments would be able to attract many customers by
offering Xbox Live specific deals and advertising campaigns. The customers would be able to
select their order directly from a link provided on the menu and pay with Microsoft Points that
can be acquired easily online with a credit card. The Xbox would allow for a unique experience:
users would be able to unlock “achievements” by spending a certain amount of money allowing
them access to better deals; also, they would be able to receive onscreen beacons for when their
food is being delivered (much like when a friend logs online).
The many features that the Xbox Live Marketplace would provide for this normally
boring process would attract many customers. The businesses that post menus online will be
charged a membership fee that will be complimented by the small cut that will be taken from
each order as a convenience fee. The membership and convenience fees would ensure long-term
profits. There is a lot of money to be made through this application, and it would be foolish to
miss this opportunity.
