					NWTC DACUM Guidelines
DACUM is an acronym for Developing A CurriculUM. A DACUM is performed for the purpose of
learning more about the duties and tasks associated with a particular job and the knowledge, skills
and traits an individual needs to be successful.

A DACUM may be performed for the following purpose:

    A Job Analysis
 A way to analyze an occupation and capture the duties and tasks performed.
    A source for developing performance-based curriculum.
 Answers the question, “What tasks are performed by a person who does this job?”
 Obtain job task information from expert workers in the occupation.
 Support development of credential deliverables

Results of a DACUM can be used to:

    Develop program outcomes
    Develop course outcomes (curriculum)
 Support the development of a new program (NOT a REPLACEMENT for a Needs
       Assessment)
 Identify major industry changes impacting an existing, but outdated program

Modified DACUM (Validation of program outcomes and competencies within courses)

 Can be used to revise curriculum (Associate Degree/Technical Diploma/Certificates) based on
QRP results, major industry changes, or grant requests
