Petitioning for Admission to Student Teaching
Because you have not met one or more admission requirements you may choose to petition for admission
to the Student Teaching Term. Your petition will be reviewed by the Professional Education Review
Committee (PERC), composed of three Teacher Education faculty members.
Guidelines: You must collect and submit all documents (listed and described below) in one packet and in
person to the Chair of the PERC.
You submit all documents in a timely manner so there will be enough time for PERC to meet to review
your petition. You may submit required documents each Fall and Winter Term from the first day of the
term to the last Friday prior to the final two weeks of the term. Documents are not accepted during the
final two weeks of the Fall and Winter terms, nor during the summer.
Required Documents: To petition for admission to Student Teaching submit all of the following
documents:

Your current FLC transcript. You may download a current transcript from Web Opus.
Your petition. You need to clearly and concisely explain why you think you should be admitted
even though you have not met all of the requirements. Be sure to proofread your petition for
mechanical integrity.
A letter of support from an FLC Teacher Education faculty member. You must request this letter
from the faculty member and retrieve it from him/her in sufficient time to include it with your
petition documents. If the faculty member is a current member of PERC, he/she may decline, or
will need to step off the committee for your petition review. If you are unable to attain a letter
from a Teacher Education faculty member, you will need to explain the reason in your petition.
A letter of support from a FLC faculty member not in Teacher Education. Follow the same
guidelines as above. Non-Teacher Education faculty do not serve on PERC.
PERC Decision: The PERC will inform you by letter that it has either approved or disapproved your
petition. At times PERC will indicate specific conditions that must be met for admission to student
teaching, or by the time you complete student teaching. Pay close attention to these conditions.
Follow-Up Step: If your petition is approved, you will need to schedule an appointment in a timely
manner with the Coordinator of Field Experiences for admission to Student Teaching.
