FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE QUEST FOR COMEDY’S NEXT STAR BEGINS WITH…
THE JUST FOR LAUGHS HOMEGROWN COMIC COMPETIION
CROSS CANADA TOUR
MARCH 7 TO 23 FROM VANCOUVER, BC TO HALIFAX, NS
Montreal, Thursday, February 22, 2007 – The hunt for comedy’s freshest new face begins
Wednesday, March 7, 2007, when The Just For Laughs Homegrown Comic
Competition Cross Canada Tour presented by XM Satellite Radio, hits Yuk Yuk’s in
Vancouver, in search of the funniest young stand-ups from across the nation.
Hosted by former Canadian Idol correspondent Jon Dore, The Homegrown Comic
Competition will visit 7 cities across Canada beginning Thursday, March 8 in Winnipeg, MB,
and wrapping up in Halifax, NS, on Friday March 23. Each city will feature 8 to 10 local
stand-out comics, pre-selected by Just For Laughs and judged by a panel of local
personalities from each city. One winner from each stop will be selected to compete in
Montreal at the Just For Laughs Festival Homegrown Comic Competition presented by The
Comedy Network and XM Satellite Radio. The final winner and runner up of the
Homegrown Comic Competition will win three performances as part of the Comedy Night In
Canada Series, from July 18 to July 21, at Ernie Butler’s Comedy Nest. The final winner
shall receive a slot in the coveted Talk of The Fest show – a hotbed of the Festival’s most
buzz-worthy and in-demand comics as well as their very own short film produced by The
Comedy Network to be broadcast nationally as well as via The Comedy Network’s website.
Ottawa-born comedian Jon Dore is most recognized for his part as a former
correspondent on the hottest reality program on Canadian Television; CTV's Canadian Idol.
While there, Jon kept co-stars, contestants and audiences anything but idle with his “do
anything for a laugh” attitude and talent. Now, Jon is one of the most popular comedians
and hosts in Canada, having performed in comedy clubs, awards shows and corporate
events across the country. He has also continued his television career with a hosting
assignment on “Canada AM”, his own “Comedy Now!” special on CTV and his own pilot for
The Comedy Network aptly titled “The Jon Dore Show”. The name of Jon’s pilot show is the
only thing straight forward about him. Absolutely one of the most inventive comedians to
watch, there is literally nothing Jon won’t do for a laugh. Come see Jon Dore live and you’ll
see why he may one day very deservedly earn Idol status himself.
