                                                  https://sites.google.com/site/owspublicopinionproject/home
Introduction: Occupy Wall Street - Public Opinion Project (OWS - POP) conducted 100 interviews at Occupy New York in
Zuccotti Park (October 22-23), 95 interviews at Occupy Boston in Dewey Square (October 23) and 38 interviews at Occupy
Washington D.C. in McPherson Square (October 30).

Respondent Selection: Respondents were selected using random sampling in New york and Boston. The area where the
protests were being held was divided by the number of interviewers present. Each interviewer was assigned a distinct area
and a starting point. The interviewers walked a route that took them throughout the area assigned to them and approached
every fifth person (walking, standing or sitting) to conduct an interview. In case of a refusal, the interviewer were instructed
to approach the next person present. Once an interview was completed, the interviewers restarted their walk and
approached the fifth person for an interview. This method was applied to avoid any potential interviewer bias in respondent
selection.

In Washington DC, The area where the protests were being held was divided by the number of interviewers present. Each
interviewer was assigned a distinct area and a starting point. The interviewers walked a route that took them throughout the
area assigned to them and approached respondents (walking, standing or sitting) to conduct an interview. In case of a
refusal, the interviewer were instructed to approach the next person present. We were not able to apply the selection of
every fifth person, as there was a limited number of people in the park.

Administering the Survey: Interviewers read the questions and the response options for each question to the respondents
and circled the responses given by the respondents. Although more time consuming, we resorted to this strategy instead of
handing out the questionnaire to respondents themselves to fill it out, to ensure quality control.

Interviewing Team and Training: Every interviewer was briefed and trained on the questionnaire and methodology before
they conducted their interviews. This was done to ensure consistency.
