School Fact Sheet for Healthy Living
Our Aim
It is the aim of the School to promote all aspects of food and nutrition and enhance the health and well-being
of its pupils, staff and visitors.
As a school, we have always prided ourselves in providing the best education to your children, within available
resources, whilst attending our school. We now wish to extend this ethos by promoting healthy eating patterns
to our children at school, by taking a more pro-active approach to improving the health and wellbeing of
children, while attending class.
Snacks
We actively encourage pupils to bring healthy snacks and drinks to school. This is limited to a plain biscuit or a
piece of fruit.
All pupils under the age of 7 receive a whole piece of fruit or vegetable every day funded by the NHS.
We do not have any vending machines or run a tuck shop.
Drinks
Water is available for all pupils from 5 mains connected water fountains.
All pupils are provided with a water bottle by the school. This enables them to have water in the classroom
Staff are expected to encourage regular water breaks.
The only drinks allowed at lunch time are water, milk or fruit juice.
Fizzy drinks are not permitted on the school premises or on trips.
Lunches
Our caterers, Aspens, provide 2 choices of hot lunches, one of which is vegetarian with either potatoes, rice,
pasta or bread and a choice of vegetables or salad.
Desserts offered are a choice of hot pudding, fresh fruit yogurt, or home made cake/biscuit.
There is also the option of a salad pot, or pasta pot on alternate days.
The school packed lunch option contains a sandwich, a vegetable or cheese snack, fresh fruit, cake/biscuit and a
pure fruit juice drink.
Packed lunches can be brought in from home and eaten in the school dining hall with the rest of the pupils.
Pupils are encouraged by staff to eat a balanced selection from what has been provided.
