better for Sara with a fateful reunion capping this classic tale.

W.C.Fields stars in one of his most hilarious shorts as a less than attentive dentist who has a most unusual
assortment of patients. First, he must deal with his daughter and the iceman, who apparently are in love with each

wrestling match with one of his female patients as he attempts to extract a tooth. A male patient has such a dense
beard that Fields is unable to find his mouth, and uses a shotgun to flush out various birdlife from his patient‟s oral

After a long journey, the group finds the prehistoric land and encounters all kinds of remarkable plants, dinosaurs
and ape-like men. After exploring this amazing world, the explorers return home to their native London with proof
of their discoveries, a brontosaurus which escapes captivity and runs rampant through the streets.

Buster Keaton is the son of a steamboat captain who returns home after many years of college. His father hopes he
will take over as captain of the steamboat but, Keaton doesn‟t seem to have his heart into the task and would rather
spend time with the daughter of a rival steamboat captain that has feuded with his father for years. Keaton proves his
worth as a captain when he must break his father out of jail, due to a misunderstanding, and also save some people,
including his girlfriend, during a horrible storm.

decides to live a little by quitting his university job, withdrawing his life savings and travel. Meeting a traveling
vaudeville troupe on the train and being convinced by Jimmy the piano player (Jimmy Durante) that the show is a
success, Potts decides to use his money to buy the show and bring it to Broadway. After discovering what type of
show he bought during opening night, Potts attempts to apologize to the audience but instead becomes the hit of the
show by accidentally stumbling into the production number and show effects.

Andy Capp‟s famous comic strip about the citizens of Dogpatch comes to the screen in this first of two adaptations.

husband from the local bachelors. Abner (Granville Owen) seems to be the target of three ladies, including his

misunderstanding, all the while the infant keeps disappearing and reappearing as the train progresses to its
destination.

Needing the money for his mother and using the work to keep in shape, Muggs decides to stay at the camp even
though his attitude makes him few friends. When one of his friends takes money from the camp safe to help his
mother, Muggs decides to fight in a tournament to replace the stolen money. In attempting to replace the money,
Muggs is caught and accused of stealing and this jeopardizes his shot at the Golden Gloves.

makes him hand over the money and then kicks him out of the gang. After Danny is severely beaten by the escaped

The Sin of Harold Diddlebock
This final film by silent screen star Harold Lloyd comes nine years after his previous feature. In this film, that
reprises a character portrayed by Lloyd in a 1925 film, it is shown what happened to our hero, Harold Diddlebock
(Lloyd), twenty years after his big triumph on the college football field. Struggling in the same job he received
twenty years previous, Diddlebock is fired so he wanders the streets and eventually goes into a bar. After drinking
his first drink in his life, and a specially prepared drink in his honor, Diddlebock goes on a crazy rampage through
town, buying things including a new wardrobe, a horse-drawn cab with cabby and also a circus. Trying to remember
what happened to him during his rampage, as a result of a loss of memory due to the strong elixir, Diddlebock now
must take care of his new purchases while attempting to recall what he did.

An Army Colonel retires to his hometown in Georgia and is dismayed at the lack of civic pride his fellow citizens
have. Taking up the task of bringing back some sense of history and tradition to the town, the colonel begins writing
an article in the local newspaper. Shocked to learn that the town leaders plan on tearing down the Confederate
Square and rechristen it in honor of the town‟s current mayor, the colonel ends up taking drastic measures against

Paradise in Harlem
This crime drama features an all African-American cast and centers on Lem Anderson (Frank Wilson); a club singer
aspires to be a great dramatic actor. His big chance evaporates when he witnesses a mob hit. Pressure from the mob
and the death of his ill wife forces Lem to leave town, drifting from place to place in an alcoholic stupor. An
opportunity to play Othello draws Lem back to Harlem despite the risk leads to an interesting climax.

This feature is the screen debut of Lena Horne as Ethel Andrews, a young featured singer of the shows put on by her
songwriter/producer boyfriend, Duke Davis (Ralph Cooper). Andrews is given a chance to work a Broadway show
but Davis is unable to come with so he breaks off their relationship in order for her to take the offer. Davis goes to
work on a friends traveling medicine show touring the South and Andrews heads off to Broadway. Without Davis‟
behind the scenes support, things take a turn for the worse for Andrews as her show threatens to be a disaster. Davis
returns in time to help Andrews and the show is a big success.

This all African-American film stars bandleader Louis Jordan in a dual role, as father and son. Schyler Jarvis, a
successful old-time musical star, dies and wishes to leave his fortune to his son, Louis, and Honey, the daughter of
his long-lost love. Henry Talbot, a crooked lawyer decides to swindle the funds away from the rightful heirs and
take the money for himself. After taking the money, Talbot meets an untimely end and suspicion falls upon Louis as
the killer. Everything works out in the end for this film featuring plenty of music provided by Louis Jordan‟s
Tympany Five.

Captain Scarlett

The Jungle Book
This feature was adapted from the classic Rudyard Kipling story about Mowgli (Sabu), a boy raised in the jungle by

adoptive family, Mowgli is forced to stop the greedy ambitions of some villagers who covet a king‟s treasure lost in

kingdom must be killed.

Hearts in Bondage
This Civil War story centers on the events leading up to the fateful battle between the two ironclads, the Monitor and
the Merrimac. When a Union Naval officer sinks rather than burning the Merrimac and it falls into Confederate
hands, he is discharged from the Navy. Later, he is reinstated and made a member of the crew for the USS Monitor,
which is assigned the task of hunting down and destroying the re-commissioned Merrimac, now the CSS Virginia.
Aboard the Confederate vessel is the brother of the Union officer‟s fiancee and this confrontation has tragic results
for one of these two men.

Cyrano De Bergerac
This screen adaptation of the Edmund Rostand novel features Jose Ferrer reprising his Tony award-winning role as
Cyrano, the swashbuckling swordsman and poet who fears he will never be loved due to his enormous nose. Loving
the fair Roxanne from afar, the maiden confides with Cyrano her love for Christian, a handsome man but without the
ability to express himself in matters of the heart. Cyrano discovers Christian‟s feelings for Roxanne and agrees to
help the man with his courtship of the fair lady by providing him the words to do so.

Scrooge
This screen adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic was co-written by star Seymour Hicks, who portrayed lead

he will suffer a similar fate as his of eternal damnation if he doesn‟t change his ways. Subsequent visits to Scrooge
by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future show Scrooge the follies of his ways and sets him on the right

Esther and the King
This biblical tale centers upon Esther (Joan Collins), a young woman escorted away prior to her wedding to another
man and taken to the palace of the King Ahasuerus of Persia (Richard Egan). The king is looking for a new bride
due to the unfaithful behavior of his previous wife and his selection is Esther, who unbeknownst to him is a Jew.
Seeing her people being persecuted by members of the king‟s staff, Esther decides to dedicate her life to bringing
peace to her people through her marriage to King Ahasuerus. Esther is aided in her task by her uncle Mordecai
(Dennis O‟Dea), a member of the king‟s staff who helps Esther hide her true heritage in order to fulfill her destiny.

Martin Luther
This biographical account of Martin Luther‟s actions that eventually created the Protestant and Lutheran religions
was filmed in conjunction with the Lutheran Church. Niall MacGinnis portrays the monk who‟s nailing of his list of
95 theses to the church door created a stir so large that it shook the very foundations of the Catholic Church. This
film shows the struggle between Luther and the organized church and how the Catholic Church was not fully
explaining things he questioned, which led him to be labeled a heretic.

Becky Sharp
This film was the first full length feature to use the three-strip Technicolor process and stars Miriam Hopkins in the
title role. Set during the end of the Napoleonic era, this tale centers on Becky Sharp, a young woman from a lower

men to raise her status with society, Becky‟s standing is dealt a serious blow and is forced to work as a singing girl
working in a beer hall. Undaunted by her decline, Becky vows to once again gain her status with society and
eventually resumes her climb.

Gary Cooper takes on another Zane Grey western for Paramount in “Fighting Caravans”. A youthful Cooper
portrays Clint Belmet, a trail guide facing a jail term on trumped up charges. To avoid arrest, Clint finds French-
born Felice (Lily Damita) and asks to pose as her fiancé. Felice is looking to join a wagon train heading from
Independence, Missouri to Sacramento, California and agrees to the arrangement. The “arrangement” starts off with
hostility but eventually changes to true love over the course of the journey.

Svengali
This Oscar nominated film stars John Barrymore in a riveting performance as Maestro Svengali, a music teacher

by his hypnotic manipulations, O‟Farrell abandons her family and boyfriend and embarks on a singing tour of

Kansas Pacific
Set prior to the start of the Civil War but after the South has seceded from the United States, Kansas Pacific centers
on the efforts to build a railroad across Kansas toward the West Coast. Southern sympathizers attempt to sabotage
the railroad construction efforts so Army Captain John Nelson (Sterling Hayden) is brought in to keep the project
going. Captain Nelson must not only contend with the efforts of the saboteurs but also try to romance the railroad
foreman‟s daughter, Barbara Bruce (Eve Miller). This film also features Clayton Moore, best known for his
portrayal in films and on television of The Lone Ranger.

Frontiersman Daniel Boone (George O‟Brien) resides in 1775 Kentucky where the territory is exploding with

further settlement of the territory. Boone also has to contend with Stephen Marlowe (Ralph Forbes), a Richmond
gentleman who wishes to seize title to all the land in the territory and also try to take the affections of Boone‟s
sweetheart, Virginia Randolph (Heather Angel).

Our Daily Bread
This film was produced and directed by the legendary King Vidor and was a homage to the strength and
determination of the Depression era people who had a daily struggle just to survive. The story centers on a couple,
John and Mary Sims (Tom Keene and Karen Morley), who can‟t make a go of it in the city so they decide to leave
for the country. Once their, they come across a farm and decide to try their luck there. In spite of their lack of
knowledge or skills for farming, John and Mary begin their new life and recruit additional Depression victims to
help with the farm, eventually turning the place into a farming commune.

Tumbleweeds
With the Cherokee Strip to be opened up to settlers as part of the Oklahoma land rush, a ranch hand helps his

for the rush to begin, he falls in love with her and decides to try and make a claim on his boss‟s former ranch. When
he heads back to check for strays on the ranch, he is accused of being a Sooner and is thrown in jail. Our ranch hand
must now try to clear up the misunderstanding and get out of jail before the land rush commences and his rival gets
the ranch.

This silent adaptation of Oscar Wilde‟s classic play stars Ronald Coleman as Lord Darlington, a caddish gentleman

mistaken jealousy, leaves her husband and goes to the home of Lord Darlington. Mrs. Erlynne, secretly the long-

This Western, based upon a Zane Grey novel, features Randolph Scott as the hero of the picture, Brett Dale. Dale

Dale is successful in preventing the kidnapping but unfortunately her father is killed by the greedy kidnapper. Now
accused of murdering the girl‟s father, Dale must clear his name and bring the real murderer to justice.

This film about the life of Betsy Ross portrays the maker of the first Stars and Stripes flag is a different light due to
the relatively unknown story of her. This tale features Betsy (Alice Brady) and her sister Carissa (Lillian Cook).
Both women have romantic feelings for the same man, Clarence Vernon (Frank Mayo) a British soldier. A suitor
for Betsy, Joseph Ashburn (John Bowers), challenges Vernon to a duel for the right to court Betsy. Ashburn
apparently kills his opponent, which forces him to adopt a new identity and he joins General Washington's army.
