Dear parent(s):
The camping trip is fast approaching and we just wanted to update you on where
we are in terms of information. The camping trip has been booked for May 24th – May
27th.
The cost of the trip is going to be approximately $185/student (camping and bus costs
included). School recycling has typically raised about $1000 total for the grade 8
students. With 34 students possibly participating, that puts the funds raised from
recycling at about $30/student. That leaves approximately $150/student for the
remaining cost of the trip. Our former corporate partner, Walmart, played a significant
role in fundraising for the camping trip in the past.
Because Walmart is no longer a possible fundraising partner, we are considering
offering a chocolate fundraiser. The monies raised would be put toward the cost of the
camping trip. I have attached with this letter order information for World’s Finest
Chocolates. The most common orders are the 2$ and 3$ chocolate covered almonds.
They are also the best purchases because they are located in Saskatoon and do not to be
shipped from a warehouse in Edmonton. Other items on the list require an additional $2
cost to be added to the total/case. If you are interested in ordering a case of chocolates
before the February break, you can send to school a cheque made out to St. Gerard
School for either $60.00, $75.00, or $90 depending on your choice between 2$ and 3$
chocolate covered almonds. Approximately half of the $60, $75 or $90 pays for the
chocolates and the other half would pay towards the cost of camping. Students would
keep the money collected with the sale of the chocolates, as the case has been pre-paid. If
you are interested in ordering other items on the order sheet, please call me to inquire if
they are available. Students who have chosen to participate in the chocolate fundraiser in
past years have typically had less money owing toward the camping trip in May.
Students who sell 3 cases of 2$ chocolate covered almonds will likely have very little to
pay in May. I am prepared also to make more orders in March if parents wish to make
more than one order. Keep in mind that the class is participating in other fundraising
activities, such as recycling. If you do not wish to participate in this fundraising activity,
other fundraising opportunities may occur before the end of May and/or you may choose
to pay more for your child’s camping trip.
No students will be permitted to sell any chocolates at school, as we are a Nut
Alert school and have many students with allergies. We strongly discourage having
student door to door canvassing, for security reasons.
If you have questions about the information discussed in this letter, please call me
at school. I hope you all enjoy a great holiday season.
