       Score Guideline and Interpretation

00 The teacher has little or no evidence of what the student knows and
can do OR the student’s work indicates consistently limited
knowledge and skill. The Basic descriptor* barely applies to this
                student’s overall performance.
01 The majority of the student’s work over the entire semester fits
within the Basic Descriptor. The Basic descriptor clearly applies to
                this student’s overall performance.
02 Student’s work is usually at the Basic Descriptor, but s/he
occasionally shows the ability to do work matching the Proficient
Descriptor. The Proficient descriptor nearly (but not quite) applies to
                this student’s overall performance.
03 Student’s work is usually at the Proficient Descriptor, but s/he
occasionally does work matching the Basic Descriptor, i.e., s/he
needs support or assistance. The Proficient descriptor barely applies
                to this student’s overall performance.
04 The majority of the student’s work over the entire semester fits
within the Proficient Descriptor. The Proficient descriptor clearly
applies to this student’s overall performance.
05 Student’s work is usually at the Proficient Descriptor, but s/he
occasionally shows the ability to do work matching the Advanced
Descriptor. The Advanced descriptor nearly (but not quite) applies
                to this student’s overall performance.
06 Student’s work is usually at the Advanced Descriptor, but s/he
occasionally does work matching the Proficient Descriptor, i.e., the
responses are not always at the analysis and evaluative levels. The
Advanced descriptor barely applies to this student’s overall
                performance.
07 The majority of the student’s work over the entire semester fits
within the Advanced Descriptor. The Advanced descriptor clearly
applies to this student’s overall performance.
08 All of the student’s work over the entire semester has consistently fit
the Advanced Descriptor. The Advanced descriptor always applies
to this student’s overall performance and, in fact, the student’s
performance is high even for advanced.

                              General Information

Marching Band: Marching band is held during football season. Everyone in band is
required to participate. Rehearsals will be during block 1 (7:45- 9:15 am every day)
and every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 5:30. The marching band will perform
at all home football games, Oil Bowl and State Marching Band Festival.

Symphonic Band: Symphonic band is open to all band members grades 9-12. The
band rehearsed during block 1 (7:45-9:15 every day). The season begins after the last
home football game. Chair Auditions will be held in early November. Required
concert dates are listed on the attached music calendar.

Pep Band: All band members participate in pep band. The band will be split and
each member will be required to participate in at least half of the performances.

Marching Uniforms: The school will provide marching uniforms with the exception
of marching shoes. An order for shoes will be placed at the beginning of the year. All
students are required to purchase marching shoes through the band to maintain
uniformity. Students will only need to buy one set of shoes, as long as they fit,
throughout their high school careers.

Equipment Needs: Each student must bring to class everyday: a sharpened pencil
with eraser, their instrument in good working condition (which includes reeds,
mouthpieces, and all other necessities), assigned music and a good attitude.

Challenges: Challenges will occur before school, after school, during lunch or at the
conclusion of class. No more than one challenge per week. No challenges will be
held two weeks prior to a concert or performance.

Concert Attendance: Attendance is required at every concert. An unexcused
absence will result in a significant lowering of your performance grade. If you have
an excused absence, it can be made up through a student-initiated appointment with
the director. The content of the make-up will be determined at the time of the
appointment.
Daily Attendance: Attendance is a crucial part of a successful performing group. An
unexcused absence will result in the loss of all the rehearsal points for that day. If you
have an excused absence, it can be made up through a student-initiated appointment
with the director. The content of the make-up will be determined at the time of the
appointment.

Extra Rehearsals: There will be one after school rehearsal for every concert to add
the percussion for the performance. This is required for all band students. These
rehearsals will usually be held one day before the scheduled concert date. The
students will be notified of the exact time at least one week before the rehearsal.
