					Dear fellow traveler,

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all
your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” Simply put, God wants to provide direction
for your life journey. He wants you to be very clear about where you’re going. Our journey to know God
is a lifelong journey. We take that journey one step at a time – and along the way we start to think, act
and be more like God created us to be. Northwoods is all about helping people move forward in their
faith journey. But your journey of faith is a very personal thing – and no two journeys are quite the same.
And everyone’s pace on the journey is different too. So at Northwoods, we’re here to assist you in
developing your very own journey map.

This Self-Assessment is simply a tool to help you identify an area or two of your life in which God may
be inviting you to take a step forward – a compass to help you set a course for living a life of purpose.

This Self-Assessment is NOT a gauge for anyone’s spiritual maturity. It’s not a test that you can pass or
fail. You’ll be answering a lot of questions. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that a higher score
means that you are at a more advanced level than others whose score was lower.

You’re not going to look at how high your score is, you’ll be looking for God’s prompting in your heart
as you assess yourself. Sometimes, you might discover a clue to your next growth step in the sections or
questions in which you rated yourself with a lower number. Those may indicate areas in which you need
to explore growth.

If you’re relatively new at following Christ, you probably will score low on most questions. You’re new
on the journey and you can’t help but score low. It’s all so new to you. For you, looking at the first 2
sections might be the place to start. They will lay a good foundation on which to build the other
components.

But the key is that you simply do the one thing that you sense God asking you to do right now. That’s my
definition of a Christ-follower – someone who does the one thing God is asking them to do right now.
Believe it or not, that step (whether big or little) is the key to your future growth. God is teaching you to
listen and trust Him. He understands your hesitation and is more patient with you than you could ever
imagine.

So, allow this assessment to help you know God better. Talk to him as you read the questions and
contemplate your answers. Don’t spend too much time on any question, but do think carefully about each
one. Try to be as honest with yourself as you can. This is your private assessment and it’s just between
you and God unless you choose to invite someone else to help you along in your journey.

Even as you fill out this assessment, may God bless you with a sense of His presence and extreme love for
you.

Personal Plan for Living Life with Direction

identified. Whatever areas come to the forefront, will you accept His challenge to follow Him and grow?
Remember, He’s promised to help you each step of the way.
I am committed to growing in the area(s) of: ___________________________________________
