TENDERFOOT
The TENDERFOOT rank is the first rank a Scout earns as he commits to the Scouting
program. Scouts earning the rank of TENDERFOOT will learn the meaning of the Scout
Oath and the Scout Law.
As a TENDERFOOT, The Scout will be introduced to some skills such as first aid, knot
tying, patriotism, physical fitness, and the outdoor code. The basics of camping, hiking,
patrol methods, and Scouting brotherhood become a part of every outing. It is here that
the boy is thinking about Scouting and what it is that attracts him to the program. The
Scout will read his Boy Scout Handbook and will glance at the requirements for Eagle
rank. For the first time, the Scout sees direction and how to obtain his goals.
