EAST ASIAN STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS
The Department of East Asian Studies will be awarding a number of scholarships, each
with a maximum of $5,000 to support study abroad and language immersion programs
for the summer of 2005. Funds can be applied to travel, living costs, or tuition for
programs in China or Japan. The student must be accepted into a program to receive a
scholarship; however, it is possible to apply for this scholarship before program
acceptance has been established. It is recommended that students apply for more than one
program. Applicants must be Brown undergraduates. Priority will be given to applicants
with demonstrated need, East Asian Studies concentrators, and students currently
enrolled in East Asian language courses.
To apply, students should submit the following:
application form
resume
student-issued transcript
proposed plan of study
a letter of recommendation from an East Asian Studies language instructor
a letter of recommendation from an East Asian Studies faculty member who does
not teach language
The application deadline is 5:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2006. Applications should
be submitted in person to Kristen McFadyen, 333 Brook, Room 101 or online to
Kristen_McFadyen@brown.edu. The Department expects to notify applicants of its
decisions by mid February.
