Important IRS Changes
Preparer Registration – New regulations require all paid tax return
preparers (including attorneys, CPAs, and enrolled agents) to ap-
ply for a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) — even if you
already have one — before preparing any federal tax returns in
2011.

To sign-up for a PTIN, go to www.irs.gov and select the Tax Profes-
sionals link.

E-File Requirements – Congress recently approved a federal e-file
mandate for tax return preparers, based on recommendations from
the IRS, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and the
Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Council.

The requirement will be phased in over two years. As a result of the
new rules, preparers will be required to start using IRS e-file begin-
ning:

    • January 1, 2011— for those of you who anticipate preparing
100 or more federal individual or trust tax returns during the year; or

    • January 1, 2012— for those of you who anticipate preparing
11 or more federal individual or trust tax returns during the year.

Debt Indicator – The IRS will no longer provide tax preparers and
associated financial institutions with the debt indicator, which is used to
facilitate refund anticipation loans (RALs).

  Pre-Season Checklist
Be sure you are ready for tax season by following this Pre-Season
  Checklist:

1.) EFIN – To e-file tax returns, every ERO must have his or her own
Electronic Filers Identification Number (EFIN). To register for an
EFIN, fill out form 8633 and mail the form to the IRS or go to
www.irs.gov and complete your EFIN application using the IRS’s
E-Services program. For more information, contact the IRS at
      1-866-255-0654.

2.) Update Form 8633 – If any of your contact or firm information
has changed, you must update Form 8633 with the IRS. Go to
www.irs.gov and update form 8633 through the E-Services pro-
gram or contact the IRS at 1-866-255-0654.

3.) Business Returns – If you will be e-filing business returns, you
must update form 8633 with the IRS and indicate which Business
entities you will be e-filing. TaxSlayer Pro allows electronic filing
of 1120, 1120S, 1065, and 990 business entities. Contact the
IRS at 1-866-255-0654 to update form 8633 or go to www.irs.
gov and update form 8633 through the E-Services program.

4.) IRS E-Services – Go to www.irs.gov and select the Tax Profes-
sionals link. You will find a wealth of information pertaining
to the tax professional. This is where you can sign up for the
E-Services program and the IRS Quick Alert notification system.
We encourage all of our TaxSlayer Pro customers to sign up for
      IRS Quick Alerts.

5.) PTIN – Preparer Tax Identification Number: All paid tax return
preparers are required to have a PTIN for the 2011 filing sea-
son. Go to www.irs.gov and select the Tax Professionals link for
      more information.

                                     6
6.) Update My Account – If any firm or contact information has
changed, you will need to update your My Account by going to
www.taxslayerpro.com and login with your Username and Pass-
word. If any banking information has changed such as routing
or account numbers, please fax a summary sheet to: ‘Banking
Department’ at 706-868-1955. Include on the summary sheet
your name, EFIN, and new banking information.

7.) Bank Products – The banking industry for tax preparers and
consumers has seen major changes during 2010. If you plan to
offer bank products and you have not signed on with a bank,
please contact one of our partnering banks as soon as possible.
A list of banks that TaxSlayer Pro partners with, can be found on
      the TaxSlayer Pro support site.

8.) Check your Computer, Printer, and Network Settings – Make
sure your computer is up and running to your satisfaction. If your
computer is running slow, try adding additional RAM. This is a
relatively inexpensive cost that will give you instant improved
performance. Test your printer by printing a test page. Also
make sure you have plenty of ink, toner, and paper. Test your
office network. Make sure all of your computers are properly
communicating with each other. If you experience any problems,
contact your company’s computer or network technician as soon
      as possible.

9.) Review the 2010 Tax Law Changes – Review the “What’s
New” section of Publication 17 and the 1040 Instructions so you
are prepared for the new filing season.

Installing TaxSlayer Pro
Note – The TaxSlayer Pro CD and initial Download only contain the
Federal 1040 package. The business package and all states will be
available through the Updates Menu in early January.

Step 1: Close all software applications. If you have anti-virus
software running, you should temporarily disable it before installing
TaxSlayer Pro. To do this, right-click on the anti-virus icon – this will
bring up a dialog box to temporarily “Disable” or “Exit” the anti-virus
software. Your anti-virus software will reactivate when you restart
your computer.

Step 2: Insert the TaxSlayer Pro CD into your CD Rom drive. The
program installation menu will appear. If the installation menu does
not appear, click the Windows Start button. If you are running Win-
dows XP, select ‘Run’ and type X:\Setup (X representing your CD Rom
drive) and press the Enter key. If you are running Windows Vista or
Windows 7, type X:\setup (X representing your CD Rom drive) into
the ‘Start Search’ box and press the Enter key.

‘Print’ button. If you do not agree to the terms set forth in the license
agreement, select Cancel and do not install the software. Contact

take a few minutes depending on the speed of your computer. Once
the installation is complete, you are given the option to restart your

First Time Configuration
Step 1 – Starting the Program – Open the program by double-click-
ing the TaxSlayer Pro Icon, you will be greeted by a TaxSlayer Pro
message advising you of the information that will need to be input
into the program during the initial configuration. Click OK.

Step 2 – A TaxSlayer Pro question will appear asking if you “would
like to restore the configuration from a backup disk?”, Select No.

Step 3 – Firm Information – If TaxSlayer Pro 2009 is installed on
this computer, the 2009 configuration will pull forward to the 2010
program. Review the information to ensure everything is still correct.
If this is a new computer or your first year with TaxSlayer Pro, you will
need to fill in all of the information.

Tip – When entering the name and address of your firm, do not enter
characters such as apostrophes, pound signs, dollar signs, commas, peri-
ods, etc. If you enter any of these characters by mistake, the program
will prompt you to remove them before continuing.

Step 4 – Preparer Setup – If TaxSlayer Pro 2009 is installed on
this computer, you will be prompted with a question asking to pull
‘Preparers from Prior Years’. If you would like to pull the preparers
forward, select ‘Yes’. Note – Once the preparers have been pulled
forward, you can edit or delete any information pertaining to each
preparer.

                                   13
If TaxSlayer Pro is not installed on this computer, you will be given the
option to enter preparers. To enter a preparer, select ‘New’. You
will be prompted to enter a Preparer Number. This is a number you
assign to each of your preparers. You can use any number from 1 to
999. Next enter the Preparer’s SSN, the preparer’s PTIN, and then
the preparer’s first name, middle initial, and last name. Click OK
to proceed to the Preparer Edit Menu. The Preparer Edit Menu will
give you the option to change the Preparer Practitioner PIN, setup
the preparer’s power of attorney information (if the preparer is an
Acceptance Agent), and set program permission and security for the
preparer. Refer to the user manual for more information on program
security.

Tip – A PTIN is now required to prepare returns. Go to www.irs.gov and
select the Tax Professionals tab for more information.

Step 5 – Bank Setup – If you will be offering bank products, we
encourage you to sign-up with a bank as soon as possible. The fol-
lowing banks are affiliated with TaxSlayer Pro: Advent, EPS, Refund
Advantage, Republic Bank, River City, and Santa Barbara.

Choose the bank you will be using from the list and click OK. De-
pending on your choice of bank, you will be required to answer a
few questions before continuing.

Tip – All banks are integrated into TaxSlayer Pro. External bank
software does not need to be installed to process bank products. Checks
will be printed within the TaxSlayer Pro software except for Refund
Advantage customers which will print checks from the Refund Advantage
website. Contact Refund Advantage for further information.

Step 6 – Fee Setup Menu – Fees entered into the Fees Table will be
used to calculate the tax return fee that will appear on the Client
Invoice. If you used TaxSlayer Pro last year, or you entered your fees
into the TaxSlayer Pro demo program, click on ‘Pull Prior Year Fees’.

                                   14
To change a fee or to enter a new fee, click on the line for the form
and when the screen prompt appears, enter the fee. If you charge
by the hour, check the box in the lower left-hand corner of the screen,
otherwise, click ‘Exit’.

Step 7 – Network Setup – If you used TaxSlayer Pro on a network
last year, your network settings will pull forward, after you answer
“Yes, I am using a Network”. If you did not use TaxSlayer Pro last
year or you purchased new computers, refer to the Network section
of this guide for network setup procedures. If you are not using a
network, select ‘No’ and follow the steps below to complete your con-
figuration. You can always come back to the network setup by going
to Configuration and choosing System/Network Configuration Menu.

Step 8 – Transmitting Computer or Workstation – The next question
asks if this is the computer you will use to communicate with TaxSlayer
Pro. The computer that handles all aspects of e-fling and check print-
ing will be the Transmitting computer. You can only have one Trans-
mitting computer in your office. All other computers are considered
Workstations. Workstation computers only prepare returns, they do
not communicate with TaxSlayer Pro directly. If you answer ‘Yes’ to
the question, this will be your Transmitting computer.

Step 9 – The settings defined within the Path Menu tell the program
where to backup current data and where to pull prior year data.
The default settings will work for most TaxSlayer Pro customers, how-
ever, if your prior year data is stored on a drive other than the drive
the current TaxSlayer Pro program is installed, then the Prior Path
settings will need adjusting. To adjust the Prior Path, select the Prior
Path Menu and change the location of the prior year data. If you
need assistance, please call TaxSlayer Pro Support. If you would like
to setup a secondary backup path for your tax returns, you can select
the backup path from the drop down menu for ‘Secondary Backup
Path’. The Secondary Backup Path is used for backing up data to a
flash drive or a secondary hard drive.

                                   15
Step 10 – MACRO Setup – A MACRO, by definition, is a shortcut to a
task you do repeatedly. For purposes of tax preparation, MACROs
reduce the number of keystrokes required to complete a return. If
you have TaxSlayer Pro 2009 installed, you can pull forward your
prior year MACROs. If not, you can enter your MACROs now or you
can re-enter the Configuration Menu and type in your MACROs at a
later date.

Step 11 – Update Manager – When the program is first opened
each day, the Update Manager will automatically download and
install the latest updates you have selected in the Update Manager
Menu. The Federal Individual, Individual E-File, and the State you
indicated in the Firm Information Setup Menu will automatically be
checked. You can select as many states and update packages as
you like. We do recommend that you leave the Federal Individual
Update and your resident state checked.

                                 16
Step 12 – TaxSlayer Pro Premium – If you purchased TaxSlayer
Pro Premium, you will need to enter the Premium Activation Code to
turn on the Premium features. Your Activation Code can be found by
logging into your My Account. Once your Activation Code is entered,
there are a few questions to answer. If you will be using the Paper
Cut Paperless Office program, change the option to Yes. To generate
PDFs, TaxSlayer Pro uses a program called Ghostscript. If Ghostscript
is not currently installed, TaxSlayer Pro will direct you to Ghostscript’s
website. Follow the onscreen steps to install Ghostscript.

Once Ghostscript is installed, ‘Method Used to Generate PDF’s’ will
automatically switch to Ghostscript. For purposes of emailing tax
returns, the E-mail method will be defaulted to TaxSlayer Pro. For a
description of the other E-mail options, refer to the User Manual. A
popular feature of TaxSlayer Pro Premium is the text messaging
option. TaxSlayer Pro will notify your bank product customers via
text, when a check has been printed. This will eliminate the need to
pick up the phone and call each client who has a check ready for
pickup.

If you would like to upgrade to TaxSlayer Pro Premium and take
advantage of online client status, text messaging, off-site storage of
tax return data, and Paper Cut, contact TaxSlayer Pro Sales at 888-
420-1040.

* TaxSlayer Pro Premium can be activated after the initial
configuration by selecting the Configuration Menu from the Main
Menu of TaxSlayer Pro. Next choose the Configure Premium Options
Menu. To activate Paper Cut, set the ‘Use Paper Cut Paperless Office
Option’ to ‘Yes’. To activate the Text Messaging feature, set the ‘Send
Text Message to Clients’ option to’Yes’.

Step 13 – Exit Configuration – Once you have completed the initial
configuration setup, TaxSlayer Pro will close to apply all of the new
settings to the program. Before exiting, check your system date. If
the date displayed is not correct, change the date by double-clicking
the time display in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.

Configuration of Workstation Computers
Once the Transmitting computer configuration is complete, the con-
figuration can be recalled on any of your workstation computers. A
workstation computer is any computer in your office that is used to
prepare tax returns. For TaxSlayer Pro purposes, you can only have
one Transmitting computer but you are able to have an unlimited
amount of Workstation computers.

Depending on if your computers are networked together or if they
are stand-alone computers, will determine how to best recall the
configuration.

Configuration of Networked Workstation Computers – If all of your
computers in the office are networked together, the configuration can
be recalled from the Transmitting computer through your network.

Step 1: Install TaxSlayer Pro on the Workstation computer.

Step 2: Open the TaxSlayer Pro program by double-clicking on the

Step 3: Click OK on the TaxSlayer Pro Welcome Message.

Step 4: Click ‘Yes’ on the TaxSlayer Pro Question that asks “Do you
want to restore configuration from a backup disk?”

Step 5: TaxSlayer Pro will search your computer for drives that
contain the configuration file. If the Workstation computer is properly
networked to the Transmitting computer, the network drive or mapped
drive will appear. Select the drive and click OK. The configuration
will be restored and the program will automatically adjust to become
a Workstation computer. If you receive a message stating “The con-
figuration could not be restored” then the Workstation computer is not
properly mapped or networked to the Transmitting computer. Contact
TaxSlayer Pro Support for assistance or refer to the non-networked
section to recall configuration.

Step 8: IMPORTANT – Go to the Configuration Main Menu and select
‘Electronic Filing / Bank Setup’. Choose ‘Last DCN Batch / Serial
Numbers Used’. Change the numbers to 1000. Do this for every
Workstation in your office, except increase the number by 1000 on
each computer. For example, change the DCN range on the second
workstation to 2000 and then 3000 on the third workstation, etc. This
will give each computer a unique DCN range that will prevent dupli-
cation of DCN numbers when you e-file returns. This step is important,
if you do not follow these steps, some or all of your returns will reject.

Step 9: Repeat the steps above on all stand-alone workstation com-
puters.

  Network Setup
Setting up the TaxSlayer Pro network only takes a few moments if
your office network is already working properly.

IMPORTANT – If your office network is not setup or is not functioning
properly, our TaxSlayer Pro technicians will not be able to assist you in
setting up the TaxSlayer Pro network. You will need to contact your
local computer or network company for assistance.

Here are a few items to consider when setting up
  the TaxSlayer Pro network.

1.) The TaxSlayer Pro network operates in a peer-to-peer envi-
ronment. This means that the TaxSlayer Pro program must be
installed on each computer. The program cannot be installed on
a file server and distributed to each workstation.

2.) If you have multiple user accounts on your computers, every
user must be setup on each computer. For example, if on your
transmitting computer you have an account for Charles, Beth, and
John you must also have a user account for Charles, Beth, and
       John on each workstation.

3.) Permissions – ‘Full Control’ or at least ‘Modify’ privileges need
to be set for the ‘Everyone’ group on the TaxSlayer folder lo-
cated on the Transmitting computer before the workstations and
transmitting computer can share return information.

4.) File and Printer Sharing – Make sure that File and Printer
Sharing is enabled in your network settings for your operating
system and within your antivirus program. Some newer anti-virus
programs will block file sharing on networks.

                                      25
If you are not familiar with the information listed above, we suggest
contacting a network or computer technician to assist with the network
setup.

Once the office network is setup, follow the steps below to network
TaxSlayer Pro.

The following steps are for the Transmitting Computer:
Step 1 – On your Transmitting computer, double-click the TaxSlayer
Pro icon located on your desktop and then select Configuration.

Step 2 – From the Configuration Main Menu, select the System/Net-
work Configuration Menu. Make sure that ‘Are you Using a Network’
and ‘Transmitting Computer’ are answered ‘Yes’.

Step 3 – ‘Electronic Drive’ should be set to the drive where TaxSlayer
Pro is installed. ‘This Computer’s Network Name’ will show the name
that the other computers on the network use to identify this computer.
‘Backup / Recall Returns from the Electronic Drive’ will be defaulted
to ‘Yes’.

Step 4 – For the TaxSlayer Pro Network to work properly, you must
share the TaxSlayer Pro folder. Select ‘Share TaxSlayer Pro Folder to
the Network’. A box will briefly display as the drive is being shared.
Note – This only needs to be completed if the folder has not already
been shared.

Step 5 – Before exiting the System / Network menu, choose the op-
tion, ‘Print Network Setup Instructions’. You will need these instructions
to complete the network setup on the workstation computers.

                                   26
The following steps are for the Workstation Computers:
Step 1 – Install TaxSlayer Pro on the workstation computer and
restore your configuration if you have not already done so. Once
complete, from the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro, select Configuration
and then chose the System / Network Configuration Menu. Make
sure ‘Are you using a Network’ is set to ‘Yes’ and ‘Transmitting Com-
puter’ is set to ‘No’.

Step 2 – Select ‘Electronic Drive’. A box will appear asking you to
‘Please Select a Drive’. On the instruction sheet that printed from your
Transmitting Computer look for a box in the middle with a name and
a drive letter. Does that name and drive letter match any of the items
listed in the box? If Yes, highlight it and click OK. If it does not ap-
pear, select ‘Transmitting Computer Not Found Above’.

Step 3 – The Network Utility Box will appear. Look at the instruc-
tions again and focus towards the bottom of the page. The box on
the instruction sheet resembles the box on your computer screen. Put
the same information in your computer that is listed in the box on the
instructions by clicking the drop-down arrows.

Use drive letter ‘N’ if it is available for number 4, ‘Connect to
Transmitting Computer As’. If not, you may choose any drive letter
you prefer. Click Connect. You should see a message stating “Drive
Mapped Successfully” appear on the screen. If so, you have success-
fully setup your TaxSlayer Pro network.

Step 4 – Repeat these steps beginning with Step 1 of the Workstation
computer steps.

Note – If you need further assistance on how to setup your network,
please refer to the Manual located on the TaxSlayer Pro support web-
site.

Creating a Tax Return
Creating a tax return is relatively easy in TaxSlayer Pro. Follow the
steps below to begin a basic tax return.

Step 1 – To begin a new return, select ‘Tax Return’ from the Main
Menu of TaxSlayer Pro. After reviewing the IRC 7216 regulations,
click ‘Yes’ to print the consent form. (Note: If you do not offer bank
products, a consent form will not print).

Step 2 – Enter the SSN of the Primary taxpayer and press the Enter
key. A question will appear asking if you want to create a new
return, select ‘Yes’.

Step 3 – Select the appropriate filing status. If you need assistance
on choosing the correct filing status, click the Help Guide at the top for
a description of each filing status.

Step 4 – Personal Information Entry Menu – Enter the taxpayer’s
personal information such as name, address, occupation, and phone
numbers. TaxSlayer Pro will ask for the taxpayer’s SSN for a second
time. This is to check for any accidental mistakes when entering the
SSN.

                                   28
Step 5 – After entering the personal information, the program takes
you to a review menu to look over the personal information menu.
This menu is where you can mark the taxpayer blind, deceased, a
student, or contribute to the presidential campaign. The taxpayer’s
email address, dependent on another return, and military information
is all entered in this menu.

Step 6 – Dependent Information – If the return you are preparing
includes dependents, select ‘Yes’ to begin entering the dependent
information. Select ‘New’ and enter the personal information of the
first dependent. Click OK once finished. If the dependent had any
qualifying day care expenses, enter the amount in the box that ap-
pears. Review the dependent information on the screen and make
any necessary changes.

If you have additional dependents, click ‘New’ and enter the personal
information for the second dependent. Note – If you entered an
amount paid for qualifying child care expenses, an onscreen prompt
will appear asking if you would like to enter the child care provider
information. If so, click ‘Yes’ and enter the provider information. If
you choose not to enter the provider information now, the program
will remind you later that this information has not been entered.

                                   29
Step 7 – Enter your Preparer Code and press the Enter key. You will
now be at the Personal Information Menu where you can Add, Edit, or
Delete any information that was previously entered. If everything is
correct, exit the menu.

Step 8 – To enter W-2’s, select ‘Yes’ to enter W-2’s now and click the
‘New’ button. The W-2 within the program resembles the actual W-2
form. Enter the taxpayers’ W-2 information into the program. Once
complete, press the Enter key to exit. Click ‘New’ to enter a second
W-2 or click Exit to Continue. Once you Exit the W-2 menu, you
will be directed to the Income menu. If the taxpayer has additional
income, enter his/her income in the applicable areas of the program.

Step 9 – If the taxpayer is eligible for EIC, the program will prompt
you (once you exit the Income menu) to answer the questions on the
EIC checklist. If the questions are answered correctly, and the tax-
payer qualifies, the taxpayer will receive EIC.

                                  30
Step 10 – After completing the EIC checklist, you will be directed to
the Client’s 1040 Main Menu. This is the Main Menu for the taxpay-
er’s return. From this menu you can itemize, enter credits, adjustments,
create a state tax return, mark the return for electronic filing, and
view all forms associated with the return by selecting View Results.

Step 11 – Once all entries have been made on the tax return and the
return is complete, you have two options. The first option would be
to mark the return for e-file and then exit the return or you can exit
the return without marking the return for electronic filing. If you will
be e-filing the return, see the next section titled “Electronic Filing with
TaxSlayer Pro”. If the return will not be e-filed, exit the return to the
Receipt Menu.

Step 12 – The Receipt Menu will display an overview of the fees
charged, give you the option to edit the invoice, enter a payment for
the return, and show the client their estimated first check if the client
chose a bank product. Once you are satisfied, exit the Receipt Menu.
A question will appear asking if you “Are Ready to Mark the Return
Complete?”, answer ‘Yes’ and the program will exit to the Main Menu
of TaxSlayer Pro. Once you are at the Main Menu, the return will be
complete.

Electronic Filing with TaxSlayer Pro
Before the return can be electronically filed, you must first mark the
return for electronic filing. Inside the client’s tax return, select ‘Mark
Return Electronic’ from the menu options on the left-hand side of
the screen. Select the type of return to e-file by choosing a refund
disbursement method such as: RAL, Direct Deposit, Electronic Mailed
Check, ERC, etc. If an amount is due, you can enter an electronic pay-
ment, if preferred by the taxpayer.

After selecting the ‘Type of Return’, the Practitioner PIN Menu will dis-
play. The Practitioner PIN Menu will generate form 8879. Note- The
ERO must keep form 8879 on file for 3 years; the form does not need
to be mailed to the IRS. On the Practitioner PIN Menu, the taxpayer’s
PIN, spouse’s PIN and the ERO’s PIN will automatically be generated.
The final step is to verify the Signature Date. Once the information
has been entered, exit the Practitioner PIN Menu.

Once you return to the E-File Menu, check to make sure everything is
correct. If the entries are correct, exit to the Receipt Menu, verify the
information on the Receipt Menu and then exit the return. A question
will appear asking “Are You Ready to Mark the Return as Completed
and Ready for Transmission?” Choose ‘Yes’ and the return will be sent
to the E-File Transmission Table. To send the return to the IRS, refer to
the section ‘E-Filing a Tax Return’.

E-Filing a Tax Return
To E-File your returns through TaxSlayer Pro, follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Select ‘E-File’ from the TaxSlayer Pro Main Menu. The E-File
Main Menu will appear on your screen.

Step 2 – Select ‘Transmit Electronic Return(s)’. This will display the
Transmission Table. Returns that have been marked for electronic
filing and marked “Ready to Transmit” on the Receipt Menu will be
pulled into the Transmission Table.

The buttons at the bottom of the transmission table are defined below:

Add Client – This function allows you to add returns to the transmis-
sion table. As an example, the IRS rejected a return and you have
corrected the errors and need to resubmit the return. Select Add Cli-
ent and then enter the taxpayer’s SSN. If you try to add a return and
a message says, “The Client Was Not Found”, the return has not been
marked for electronic filing or the return was not marked complete
when you exited the return.

                                    33
Delete Client – This function allows you to remove returns from the
transmission table. Deleting the return from the Transmission Table will
prevent the return from being e-filed.

Cancel – To abort the transmission process, select the cancel button.

Transmit – When you are satisfied with the transmission table, select
‘Transmit’ to proceed with e-filing the return.

Step 3 – After selecting ‘Transmit’, the next screen will display how
many returns are in the Table; click OK. The following screen will ask,
“Do You Want a Printed List of Clients to Send?” We recommend that
you always print the list so you will know what has been transmitted
and when the transmission occurred. You will be asked if the printed
information is correct, if so, select ‘Yes’. If you select ‘No’, you will be
returned to the Indirect Main Menu.

After the list prints, the transmission file will go through a series of
diagnostic tests. You will see a screen that reads, “Transmission File
Passed All Tests!”.

Step 4 – The ‘Transmit/Receive’ from TaxSlayer Pro window will be
displayed. Click the Connect button. In the white box, you will see
a description of each action during the transmission process. When
prompted, click on the ‘Exit’ button.

Step 5 – You will see a message that says “You Have Reports to
Print!” From the Indirect Main Menu, select Print Reports. Each report
you have to print will be marked with an arrow next to the report. At
a minimum, you will have a Transmission Confirmation Report. This
report will list the last name and SSN of the taxpayers that were
transmitted. Keep this with your ‘List of Clients to Send’ report.

*IMPORTANT – The ‘List of Clients to Send’ only shows that you created
a Transmission Table. It does not mean you actually made a transmission.
If you DO NOT receive a Transmission Confirmation Report, the returns
DID NOT get sent to TaxSlayer Pro.

The returns will be processed and acknowledged by the IRS within 24
hours. The IRS does reserve the right to wait 48 hours before giving
an acknowledgement for the return.

Receiving Acknowledgements
During tax season, the IRS will be releasing acknowledgements
throughout the day. To check for your acknowledgements follow the
steps below:

Step 1 – On the Transmitting computer, select ‘E-File’. From the Indi-
rect Main Menu, choose ‘Receive Acknowledgements Only’.

Step 2 – The Transmit/Receive from TaxSlayer Pro screen will be dis-
played. Click the Connect button. In the box, you will see a descrip-
tion of each action during the retrieval process. When prompted,
click on the Exit button.

Step 3 – You will see a message that reads “You Have Reports to
Print!” From the Indirect Main Menu, select Print Reports. Each report
you have to print will be marked with an arrow next to the report
title. The IRS and State Acknowledgement report will display an

updates. The Update Utility will be used to download and install
state programs and the business program once they become avail-
able in January.

Installing Updates on Networked Workstations
You do not have to download the updates on your Workstation com-
puters. Once you download an update on the Transmitting computer,
the Workstation will be able to use the downloaded file that is lo-
cated on the Transmitting computer. All you have to do on the Work-
station is install the update. If the update has been downloaded on
the Transmitting computer the update will turn blue on the Worksta-
tion computer. If the update appears gray on the Workstation, the
update needs to be downloaded on the Transmitting computer.

Step 1 – On the workstation computer, go to the Updates Menu.
Make sure that the “Drive Where Updates are Stored” is set to the
drive letter you used to map to the transmitting computer.

Step 2 – Select ‘Download / Install Updates’. The color of the update
will be blue if it is downloaded on the transmitting computer. Select
the updates you want to install on the Workstation and then click the
Install button. The update will begin to install automatically to your
computer. When the update is installed, the name of the update
will turn black. Once the update turns black, the installation will be
complete.

Installing Updates on Stand-Alone or Non-Networked
Workstations
If you have multiple stand-alone computers that do not have access
to the Internet and are not on the TaxSlayer Pro network, then you
will need to copy the updates to a flash drive from your Transmitting
computer and then transfer them over to your Workstation computer.
Follow the steps on the next page to copy the updates:

Step 1 – Download and Install the updates on the Transmitting com-
puter.

from the TaxSlayer Pro Main Menu. Choose ‘Backup / Recall Up-
dates to Drive’. Select ‘Backup Updates to Disk’ and then choose the
drive to backup the updates.

Updates you want to backup and then click OK.

Step 4 – Once the update is copied to the flash drive, take the flash
drive to your Workstation computer and select Updates from the
TaxSlayer Pro Main Menu.

Step 5 – Insert the flash drive into your computer and select ‘Backup /
Recall Updates to Drive’.

letter to recall the updates. The updates that are stored on the flash
drive will appear in the list. Select the updates you want to recall

load/Install Updates’. When asked if you would like to download
the current update status report, select ‘No’. The updates that you

each update automatically. When the update is installed, the name
of the update will turn black. Once the update turns black, the down-
