Applied Science Salutes Student-Athlete
Jessica L. Nevitt
An honors student and three sport athlete
in high school, Jessie carries a 3.6 GPA in
her major and recognition as a Bearcat
and Topcat Scholar at UC.
Even though her chosen degree was not
immediately offered here, Jessie wanted
to play volleyball at the college level.
She chose UC because Reed Sunahara is a
top coach in NCAA Division I and she

part of the university’s growth.
College volleyball required adjustments

“When you have something you want to
do, don’t give up on it,” advises Jessie.
Jessie decided on a career in the
hospitality field after a job working the
phones and providing customer service at
a neighborhood Pizza Hut in her home
town of Kennesaw, Georgia. She
transferred into Applied Science as soon as
the Facilities and Hospitality Management
degree was announced.
“This is the field for me. It challenges me
to utilize all of my people and organizing
skills while athletics taught me teamwork
and how to get results working with
others.” These skills will be put to the
