Cell Cycle & Mitosis Booklet – 40 points
You are going to make a booklet on the Cell Cycle and Mitosis. Below is an outline of everything that
must be included in the booklet and in what order it should be included.
o You will need 4 sheets of paper to make your booklet. Follow teacher instructions for folding &
stapling.
o Pages (flaps) from top (8 pt):
o Title – be creative, but it must be relative!
o The Cell Cycle
o Interphase
o Prophase
o Metaphase
o Anaphase
o Telophase
o Cytokinesis
o Write the following statements on the correct flap (19 pts):
1. Centrioles form and begin moving to opposite poles of the cell
2. 2 nuclear envelopes re-appear
3. Two identical cells are produced
4. Includes G1, S & G2 stages
5. Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
6. G2 Phase (Growth 2) – scientists know it’s important, but it’s not understood
7. Chromosomes are at opposite poles
8. Nuclear envelope begins to break down
9. Edges of cell pinches and cytoplasm divides (cell plate forms in plants to divide cytoplasm)
10. Chromosomes move toward opposite poles of the cell
11. Cytoplasm begins to pinch in
12. G1phase (Growth 1) – organelles are duplicated
13. The sequence of events in a cell’s life
14. Spindle fibers attach to the centromere of the chromosomes
15. Chromatin coils around histine proteins to form chromosomes
16. Spindle fibers disappear
17. S phase (synthesis) – DNA is replicated
18. Includes interphase, mitosis & cytokinesis
19. Spindle fibers begin to shorten and split the chromosome at the centromere
o In addition to the events that are happening at each stage, you have to glue the appropriate
picture(s) on each flap. (7 pt)
o Overall appearance and neatness is 6 points.
