            SUGGESTIONS FOR STUDY AND MEDITATION ON THE PSALMS AND PROVERBS

                                              INTRODUCTION

Since the Bible is our only authority, this is intended as a guide only. This
writer welcomes suggestions and comments on improving this material. May God
continue to bless His children as we continue to serve Him.

Closing each time of meditation and study with a prayer is recommended.

                                                Day 1

                                   Theme: It pays to be righteous.

                                        Reading:    Ps 1: 1-6

                           Song: Isn't it Grand to be a Christian?

Isn't it grand to be a Christian; isn't it grand? (Repeat)
All day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, all day
Sunday; isn't it grand?

                                            Repeat song.

                                            Application

Wherever we are, whatever we are doing, it pays to think about God and His
Word. The more we think about God, the more we will be like Him. Of course,
the more we think about Satan, the more we will be like him. And we all know,
if we follow God, we will end up living forever with Him! Let's follow God and
keep away from Satan.

                                                Day 2

                                      Theme: God is in control

                                         Reading: Ps 2:1-12

                           Song: How Great Thou Art (Carl Boberg)

Oh, Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed:
Then sings my soul, my Savior, God, to Thee;
How great Thou Art, How great Thou Art. (Repeat last two lines)

                                            Application

Look at the newspaper. See all the trouble Satan is causing? Well, there's
good news. One day Jesus is coming back and this world is going to be
destroyed. Then it will be too late for all the people who did not care about
obeying God. They will be punished because they did not do what Jesus said.
(II Pet 3:7-13) Of course all of us who obey God will live with Him forever.
                                    Day 3

                                       Theme: God protects me

                                         Reading: Ps 3:1-8

Copr. 1987 W. Roane, Jr.

                      Song: Anywhere With Jesus (Jessie Brown Pounds)

Anywhere     with Jesus I can safely go; anywhere He leads me in this world below;
Anywhere     without Him dearest joys would fade;
Anywhere with Jesus I am not afraid; anywhere, anywhere, fear I cannot know:
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go.

Anywhere with Jesus I can go to sleep,
When the dark'ning shadows round about me creep,
Knowing I may waken nevermore to roam,
Anywhere with Jesus will be home, sweet home:
Anywhere, anywhere; fear I cannot know; Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go.

                                            Application

When you are in a new school or a new job, do you feel out of place? When you
visit a town for the first time do you feel lonely? And at night if you find
yourself in the dark, are you afraid? You don't need to be afraid or lonely.
When you know God is with you, you can go to sleep. God takes care of His
children.

                                    Day 4

                                    Theme: God wants us to pray

                                         Reading: Ps 4:1-3

                      Song: Did You Think to Pray? (Mrs. M. A. Kidder)

E'er you left your room this morning, did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor as a shield today?

CHORUS: Oh, how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night to day!
        So when life seems dark and dreary, don't forget to pray?

When you met with great temptation, did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit, did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay? CHORUS

When your heart was filled with anger, did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother, that you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way? CHORUS

When sore trials came upon you, did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow, Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day? CHORUS

Application: Song: When do we need to pray the most? Why?
                                               Day 5

                                      Theme: God is Righteous

                                         Reading: Ps 5:1-7

                   Song: Battle Hymn of the Republic (Julia Ward Howe)

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible, swift sword!
His Truth is marching on!

Copr. 1987 W. Roane, Jr.
                                    With the Spirit and the Understanding

Glory, glory hallelujah! (Repeat twice)
His Truth is marching on!

                                              Application

This song was written by a young lady in the last century who saw the United
States divided over slavery. She saw the armies of the North as God's
instrument to bring the slavery in the South to an end. There have been wars
since the Civil war. When Jesus comes again, there will be no more wars
because the earth will be destroyed. When Jesus comes again, He will take all
of us who obey Him to live with Him. We will live forever with Jesus and God.
But all those who have not obeyed God will not get to live with God. God will
punish those who do not obey Him.

                                    Day 6

                                   Theme: God listens when we hurt

                                          Reading: Ps 6:1-10

                           Song: Does Jesus Care? (Frank E. Graeff)

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained too deeply for mirth or song?
As the burdens press, and the cares distress and the way grows weary and long?

                                   Chorus:
Oh yes, He cares; I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares.

Does Jesus care when my way is dark with a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near?

                                                 Chorus

Does Jesus care when I've tried and failed to resist some temptation strong?
When for my deep grief I find no relief, tho' my tears flow all the night long?

                                                    Chorus

Does Jesus care when I've said "goodbye" to the dearest on earth to me?
And my sad heart aches 'till it nearly breaks; is it aught to Him? Does He see?

                                                    Chorus
                                                    Day 7

                                     Theme:   Being Right WIth God

                                         Reading:     Ps 7:1-12

                                              Application

Yes, God is a God of love. And because God is a God of love, sin makes God
angry. God cannot tolerate sin of any kind. When people cheat, hurt others,
steal, God wishes they would repent and change their ways. If people do not
repent, change their lives and start obeying God, God will finally have to
punish them. How is your life and heart? Are you obeying God or Satan?

                     Song: Is Thy Heart Right With God (E. A. Hoffman)

Have thine affections been nailed to the cross? Is thy heart right with God?
Dost thou count all things for Jesus but loss? Is thy heart right with God?

Copr. 1987 W. Roane, Jr.
                             With the Spirit and the Understanding

Chorus: Is thy heart right with God, washed in the crimson flood,
             Cleansed and made holy, humble and lowly, right in the sight of God?

Hast thou dominion o'er self and o'er sin? Is thy heart right with God?
Over all evil without and within? Is thy heart right with God? CHORUS
                                     ***

                                           Day 8

                               Theme:    Bearing the Cross

                                   Reading: Ps 8:1-5

                                        Application

Before God blesses us with the rewards he has for us, of we must serve Him
here on earth. As the song says, "If you can't bear the cross, then you can't
wear the crown." (Lk 9:23-27) Even though Christ's rewards are great, to get
there, we have to bear the cross by suffering for Christ. (I Pet 2:21)

                Song: Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone? (Thomas Shepherd)

Must Jesus bear the cross alone, and all the world go free?
No, there's a cross for everyone, and there's a cross for me.

The consecrated cross I'll bear 'till He shall set me free,
And then go home my crown to wear, for there's a crown for me.

O precious cross! O glorious crown! O resurrection day!
Ye angels from the stars, come down and bear my soul away.

                                                  Day 9

                                         Theme:    Thanking God

                                          Reading: Ps 9:1-2

                                             Application

How many things do we ask God for? We ask God to help us get well when we are
sick and to feel better when we are sad. We ask God for food and clothing and
when we are in trouble we ask God to help us get out of it. Yes, we ask God
for many     things.

David, the writer of many Psalms, thanked God for many things. Time after
time, David praises and thanks God for His goodness and kindness and mercy.
Yet how many times do we thank God? How many times in the past week have we
stopped and just thanked God for what He has given us? If we stopped and
listed every thing God has given us, we would be praying all day. Let's be
more thankful to God.

                           Song: Heavenly Father, We Appreciate You

Heavenly Father, we appreciate You. (Repeat) We love You, adore You,
We bow down before You; Heavenly Father, we appreciate You.

Son of God, what a wonder You are. (Repeat) You saved my soul from sin,
Sent the Holy Spirit in; Son of God, what a wonder You are.

Holy Spirit, what a comfort You are. (Repeat) You lead us, you guide us;
You live right inside us; Holy Spirit, what a comfort You are.

                                                  Day 10

                           Theme: What Happens When You Follow Satan

                                          Reading: Ps 10:1-9

                                             Application

What an ugly picture! This is what happens to your heart when you follow
Satan. (Reread Ps 10:8-9) Nobody should have to live like this. Yet Satan is
sneaky. Satan gets us to disobey God a little at a time. Then when we disobey
God once, we get further and further away from God. Pretty soon, we are doing
whatever Satan wants. So, who wants to follow Satan? To keep from doing what
Satan wants, we need to watch our thoughts, our actions and our words.

                                    Song: Be Careful, Little Eyes

Be careful little eyes, what you see. (Repeat)
There's a Father up above who is looking down in love,
So be careful little eyes, what you see.

Be careful, little mouth, what you say. (Repeat as above)

                                                  Day 11

                                        Theme: What God Loves

                                          Reading: Ps 11:1-7

Copr. 1987 W. Roane, Jr.
                                 With the Spirit and the Understanding

                                          Application

When God sees His children, He is happy. God loves to see us obeying Him.
Because God loves us, He wants us to always do what is right. And the more we
obey God, the more we will be like Him. (Mt 5:8) And when our heart is pure
and clean we know we will see Him.

                           Song: Purer In Heart (Mrs. A. L. Davison)

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be; May I devote my life wholly to Thee;
Watch Thou my wayward feet, guide me with counsel sweet;
Purer in heart, help me to be.

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be; Teach me to do Thy will most lovingly;
Be Thou my friend and Guide, let me with Thee abide;
Purer in heart, help me to be.

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be; That I Thy holy face one day may see;
Keep me from secret sin, reign Thou my soul within;
Purer in heart, help me to be.
                                     ***
                                    Day 12

                                     Theme: Starting Young

                                       Reading: Ps 12:1-6

                                          Application

It seems like people are pretty wicked these days. It seems like nobody wants
to follow God. Yet when we read the Bible, David, Noah, Job, Daniel and others
felt the same way. As long as Satan has been around, Satan has been trying to
get everybody to ignore God. There is a way to keep from following Satan, and
that is by following the pure, sweet, wonderful Word of God, the Bible.

            Song: How Shall The Young Secure Their Hearts? (Isaac Watts)

How shall the young secure their hearts, and guard their lives from sin?
Thy word the choicest rules imparts to keep the conscience clean,
To keep the conscience clean.

'Tis, like the sun, a heaven'ly light, that guides us all the day,
And, through the dangers of the night, a lamp to lead our way,
A lamp to lead our way.

Thy word is everlasting truth; how pure is every page;
That holy Book shall guide our youth and well support our age,
And well support our age.

                                              Day 13

                                  Theme: We Can Depend on God

                                       Reading: Ps 13:1-6

                                          Application

When we are in trouble, the old saying goes, we really found out who our
friends are. The people who are not really our friends disappear when we are
in trouble, but our real friends stick by us no matter what. Even when all
our friends leave us, God will be with us. Yes, we can depend on God.

                              Song: O Heart Bowed Down (F. E. Beldon)

O heart bowed down with sorrow, O eyes that long for sight;
There's gladness in believing, In Jesus there is light.

Chorus: Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden,
          And I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me,
          For I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

                                                      ***
                                                    Day 14

                                           Theme: God is Alive

                                            Reading: Ps 14:1-3

                                               Application

Just because people tell us there is no God doesn't mean we have to believe
it. We see God all around us, in everything He made. And most important of
all, we Christians have God working in our hearts. Let's sing about God.

                                      Song: He Lives! (A. H. Ackley)

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today; I know that He is living,
Whatever men may say; I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Chorus: He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and
        Talks with me along life's narrow way. He lives! He lives, salvation
        To impart. You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary I never will despair.
I know that He is leading through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing will come at last. CHORUS

Rejoice, rejoice! O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The hope of all who seek Him, the help of all who find;
None other is so loving, so good and kind. CHORUS

                                                   Day 15

                                       Theme: Getting Close to God

                                            Reading: Ps 15:1-5

                                               Application:

Getting close to God is not just a warm feeling we get. Being close to God
means being in the right relationship with Him. Jn 14:15 says that if we love
Jesus we will keep His commandments. So just feeling good is not enough; we
must obey God, and then we can feel good about ourselves, God, and others.

                           Song: Nearer, Still Nearer (Mrs. C. H. Morris)

Nearer, still nearer! Close to Thy heart,
Draw me, my Savior, so precious Thou Art,
Fold me, O fold me close to Thy breast,

Copr. 1987 W. Roane, Jr.
                             With the Spirit and the Understanding

Shelter me safe in that haven of rest (repeat line).

Nearer, still nearer! Nothing I bring,
Naught as an offering to Jesus, my King,
Only my sinful, now contrite heart;
Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart (repeat line).

Nearer, still nearer!      Lord, to be Thine;
Sin, with its follies      I gladly resign;
All of its pleasures,      pomp, and its pride;
Give me but Jesus, my Lord crucified (repeat).

                                          Day 16

                             Theme: Going to Live with God

                                  Reading: Ps 16:7-11

                                      Application:

Probably everybody wants to see God. The writer of Psalms said we have to
follow the path of life (Ps 16:11) in order to please God. In the New
Testament, Jesus said He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and that no man
comes to the Father but through Him. (Jn 14:6) Yes, Jesus is the only Way to
get to God. Following what some man says will not get us there; we can only
reach God by following Jesus.

                               Song: I Want to View that Holy City

I want to view that holy city,
Oh, I want to view that holy city one of these days.
I want to view that holy city;
I want to view that holy city one of these days, one of these days.

I want to sit at the welcome table,
Oh, I want to sit at the welcome table one of these days,
I want to sit at the welcome table;
I want to view that holy city,
Sit at the welcome table one of these days, one of these days.

I want to feast on milk and honey,
Oh, I want to feast on milk and honey one of these days,
I want to feast on milk and honey,
I want to view that holy city,
Sit at the welcome table,
Feast on milk and honey one of these days, one of these days.

Add: "Meet my loving Jesus," then add "Sing and never get tired."

                                       Reading: Ps 17:8-14

                                           Application:

Some people say, "You can't take it with you." That is often an excuse to live
only for today and not think about eternity. And you have seen some rich
people who are always scared that someone is going to cheat them. Jesus told
us how not to worry about that; to lay up our treasures in heaven, where no
one can take them from us. (Mt 6:19-21). So instead of saying "You can't take
it with you," maybe we should say, "You can send it ahead!"

                           Song: Heaven Holds All To Me (T. S. Teddlie)

Earth holds no treasures but perish with using,
However precious they be, Yet there's a country to which I am going;
Heaven holds all to me.

CHORUS

Heaven holds all to me, brighter its glory will be;
Joy without measure will be my treasure;
Heaven holds all to me.

Why should I long for the world with its sorrows,
When in that land o'er the sea,
Millions are singing that wonderful story?
Heaven holds all to me. CHORUS

                                     Application:

When things really get tough, who can you depend on? A friend maybe, or your
parents or your mate? Even if everyone else turns their back on you, you can
depend on God. He is always there, and no one can make Him move. That is why
David calls God the Rock. And Isaiah says God is the only real Rock. So when
you need a friend, you can depend on God.

                           Song: I Will Call Upon the Lord

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,

And let the God of my salvation be exalted.
The Lord liveth, and blessed be my Rock,

                                     Application:

Some people say there is no God. Those people probably have not look around
them much, because God is all around us. In every thunderstorm, in the sunrise
and the morning dew, in every feather on a bird's wing, in the smell of a deep
red rose, we can see God, because God made it all. The kitten's purr, the
crocodile's teeth, the tall redwood trees all remind us of God. The next time
you are outside on a clear night, look up at all the stars. God made every one
of them, yet He knows how many hairs are on your head. (Mt 10:30) Yes, God
made it all, and He cares about you.

                             Song: Climb Up the Mountain

Climb up the mountain, point to the sun,
Notice the grasses; count every one!

God made the whole world lovely for me! (Repeat song)

                                       Application:

When you need someone to talk to, depend on God. God may not always answer the
way we want Him to or when we want Him to, but He always answers at the right
time and in the right way. (Rom 8:28) A "No" answer to prayer is still an
answer, and sometimes the answer we get is "Wait". So if your prayer is not
answered "Yes" right away, don't give up.... keep on praying. God listens to
His children.

                Song: Just A Little Talk With Jesus (Cleavant Derricks)

I once was lost in sin but Jesus took me in,
And then a little light from heaven filled my soul;
It bathed my heart in love and wrote my name above,
And just a little talk with Jesus made me whole.

CHORUS

Now, let us have a little talk with Jesus,
Let us tell Him all about our troubles,
He will hear our faintest cry, and He will answer by and by;
Now when you feel a little prayerful yearning
And your heart unto heaven is turning,
You will find a little talk with Jesus makes it right.

      Song: The Blood That Stained the Old Rugged Cross (Albert E. Brumley)

On the cross of Calvary our precious Savior died,
Gave His life to save the world from loss;
In His pain and agony for every sin to hide,
Shed the blood that stained the old rugged cross.

CHORUS

Twas His blood, His precious blood, that stained the old rugged cross;
Twas His love that paid the awful cost;
O soul so far astray, come and plunge today,
In the blood that stained the old rugged cross.

To the cross, the rugged cross they nailed His precious hands,
And in death He fully paid the cost,
There is pardon in His love for every one that stands
For the blood that stained the old rugged cross.

What an awful death He died to pardon you and me,
All alone in agony He tossed;
And a world once lost in sin can now be wholly free,
By the blood that stained the old rugged cross.

                                        Application:

Keeping our hearts pure is so important. When we have pure hearts, our words

we will be serving the devil. So obey God's Word and your heart will be pure.

                      Song: Purer In Heart, O God (Mrs. A. L. Davison)

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be! May I devote my life wholly to Thee.
Guide Thou my wayward feet, guide me with counsel sweet;
Purer in heart, help me to be.

Purer in heart, O God, help me to be! Teach me to do Thy will most lovingly,

There's nothing wrong with asking for help. Being afraid to ask for help is

to depend on ourselves. And by ourselves we are lost. So when we get in

                             Song: Unto Thee, O Lord

My soul He doth restore again, and me to walk doth make

                           Song: O Worship the King (Robert Grant)

O worship the King, all glorious above,
And gratefully sing His wonderful love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavillioned in splendor and girded with praise!

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail;
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,

                                        Application:

Have you ever had to go someplace new without a map? It can be tough to get
there when you don't know the way. You have to stop and ask directions and you
get turned around and go in a few circles, and maybe if you're lucky you get
there. But with a map it's a whole lot easier to find where you are going.
Trying to get to God without following the Bible is like trying to find
someplace without a map. The Bible is the map God gave us to show us how to
get to Him.

                     Song: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (W. Williams)

Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy pow'rful hand.
Bread of Heaven, feed me 'till I want no more.
Bread of Heaven, feed me 'till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain whence the healing waters flow,
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar see me all my journey through;

                           Song: Power in the Blood (L. E. Jones)

Would you be free from your burden of sin?
There's pow'r in the blood, pow'r in the blood;
Would you live daily His victory to win?
There's wonderful pow'r in the blood.

Come for a cleansing, to Calvary's tide;

We have heard the joyful sound: Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Spread the tidings all around; Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land, climb the steeps and cross the waves;
Onward! 'Tis our Lord's command; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!

Waft it on the rolling tide: Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Tell to sinners far and wide; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Sing, ye islands of the sea; Echo back, ye ocean caves;
Earth shall keep her jubilee; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!

Sing above the battle strife; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
By His death and endless life; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Sing it softly through the gloom, when the heart for mercy craves;
Sing in triumph o'er the tomb; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!

Give the winds a mighty voice; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Let the nations now rejoice: Jesus saves, Jesus saves!
Shout salvation full and free, highest hills and deepest caves;
This our song of victory; Jesus saves, Jesus saves!

As I travel thru this pilgrim land, there is a Friend who walks with me;
Leads me safely thru the sinking sand, it is the Christ of Calvary;
This would be my prayer each day, to help me do the best I can;
For I need Thy light to guide me day and night;
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.

CHORUS

Blessed Jesus, hold my hand; Yes, I need Thee ev'ry hour;
Thru this land, this pilgrim land, by Thy saving pow'r;
Hear my plea, my feeble plea; Lord, dear Lord, look down on me;
When I kneel in pray'r, I hope to meet You there;

                      Song: The Church's One Foundation (S. J. Stone)

The Church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation by water and the Word;
From heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from every nation, yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Tho' like a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed,
Her doctrines rent asunder, by names and creeds distressed;
Yet saints their watch are keeping; they cry "O Lord, how long?";
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

                      Song: Into the Heart of Jesus (Oswald J. Smith)

Into the heart of Jesus, deeper and deeper I go;
Seeking to know the reason why He should love me so;
Why He should stoop to lift me up from the miry clay;
Saving my soul, making me whole, tho' I had wandered away.

Into the will of Jesus, deeper and deeper I go;
Praying for grace to follow, seeking His way to know;
Bowing in full surrender, low at His blessed feet;
Bidding Him take, break me and make, till I am molded and meet.

Into the cross of Jesus, deeper and deeper I go;
Following thru the garden, facing the dreaded foe;
Drinking the cup of sorrow, sobbing with broken heart;
O Savior help! Dear Savior help; grace for my weakness impart.

Into the joy of Jesus, deeper and deeper I go;
Rising with soul enraptured far from the world below;
Joy in the place of sorrow, balm in the midst of pain;
Jesus will give, Jesus will give, He will uphold and sustain.

And smile when ev'ning falls, and smile when ev'ning falls;

                             Song: Whispering Hope (Alice Hawthorne)

Soft as the voice of an angel, breathing a lesson unheard;
Hope, with a gentle persuasion, whispers her comforting word,
Wait till the darkness is over, wait 'till life's tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow, after the shower is o'er.

CHORUS

Whispering hope, O how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.

If, at the dusk of the twilight, dim be the region afar,
Will not the deepening darkness brighten the glimmering star?
Then, when the night is upon us, why should my heart sink away?
When the dark midnight is over, watch for the breaking of day. CHORUS

Hope, as an anchor so steadfast, rends the dark veil for the soul,
Whither the Master has entered, robbing the grave of its goal;
Come, then, O come, glad fruition, come to my sad, weary, heart,
Come, O thou blest hope of glory; never, O never depart! CHORUS

My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior Divine;
Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day be wholly Thine.

May Thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart;
My zeal inspire. As Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee,
Pure, warm and changeless be, a living fire!

When life's dark maze I tread, and griefs around me spread;
Be Thou my guide; Bid darkness turn to day; Wipe sorrow's tears away;
Nor let me ever stray from Thee aside.

When ends life's transient dream, and death's cold, sullen stream
Shall o'er me roll; Blest Savior, then in love, fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul!

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast and our eternal home,
And our eternal home!

Beneath the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone, and our defense is sure,
And our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same,
To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight are as an evening gone;
Swift as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun,
Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever rolling stream, bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten as a dream dies at the op'ning day,
Dies at the op'ning day.

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come;
Be Thou our guard while life shall last, and our eternal home,

Sing hallelujah to the Lord, Sing hallelujah to the Lord,
Sing hallelujah, sing hallelujah, Sing hallelujah to the Lord.

Jesus is Lord of heav'n and earth, Jesus is Lord of heav'n and earth,
Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord of heav'n and earth.

Jesus is risen from the dead, Jesus is risen from the dead,
Jesus is risen, Jesus is risen, Jesus is risen from the dead.

Jesus is living in His church, Jesus is living in His church,
Jesus is living, Jesus is living, Jesus is living in His church.

He's coming back to claim His own, He's coming back to claim His own,
He's coming back, He's coming back; He's coming back to claim His own.

                           Song: There is a Habitation (L. H. Jameson)

There is a habitation, built by the Living God,
For all, of ev'ry nation, who seek that grand abode.

CHORUS

O Zion, Zion! I long thy gates to see;
O Zion, Zion! When shall I dwell in thee?

A city with foundations firm as th' eternal throne,
No wars nor desolation shall ever move a stone. CHORUS

No night is there, no sorrow; no death and no decay;
No yesterday, no morrow, but one eternal day. CHORUS

Within its pearly portals angelic armies sing with glorified immortals,
The praises of its King. CHORUS

               Song: There Was One Who Was Willing (Mrs. Frank A. Breck)

There was One Who was willing to die in my stead,
That a soul so unworthy might live;
And the path to the cross He was willing to tread,
All the sins of my life to forgive.

CHORUS

They are nailed to the cross! They are nailed to the cross!
O how much He was willing to bear!
With what anguish and loss Jesus went to the cross,
But he carried my sins with Him there.

He is tender and loving and patient with me,
As He cleanses my heart of its dross;
For there's no condemnation, I know I am free,
For my sins have been nailed to the cross. CHORUS

I will cling to my Savior and never depart,
I will joyfully journey each day,
With a song on my lips and a song in my heart,
For my sins have been taken away! CHORUS

                  Song: Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken (John Newton)

Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God!
He whose Word cannot be broken, formed thee for His own abode;
On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation's walls surrounded, thou canst smile at all thy foes.

See, the streams of living water, springing from eternal love
Well supply thy sons and daughters, and all fear of want remove;
Who can faint while such a River ever flows their thirst t' assuage?
Grace, which like the Lord, the Giver, never fails from age to age.

Savior, since of Zion's city I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity; I will glory in Thy name;
Fading is the worldling's pleasure, all his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasures, none but Zion's children know.

                                Song: Nothing But The Blood

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

CHORUS

No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

                                     Song: Angry Words

Angry words, O let them never from the tongue unbridled slip;
May the heart's best impulse ever, catch them e'er they soil the lip.

CHORUS

"Love one another"; thus saith the Savior, "Children, obey the Father's blest
command". (Repeat chorus.)

Angry words are lightly spoken; bitt'rest thots are rashly stirred;
Brightest links of life are broken by a single angry word. CHORUS

Love is much too pure and holy, friendship is too sacred far,

                           Song: Be With Me, Lord (T. O. Chisholm)

Be with me Lord, I cannot live without Thee;
I dare not try to take one step alone;
I cannot bear the load of life unaided;
I need Thy strength to lean myself upon.

Be with me, Lord, and then if dangers threaten,
If storms of trials burst above my head;
If lashing seas leap everywhere about me,
They cannot harm or make my heart afraid.

Be with me, Lord, no other gift or blessing
Thou could'st bestow could with this one compare:
A constant sense of Thy abiding presence;
Where e'er I am, to feel that Thou art near.

Be with me, Lord, when loneliness o'ertakes me,
When I must weep amid the fires of pain;
And when shall come the hour of my departure for "world's unknown",
O Lord, be with me then!

                           Song: I'll Fly Away (Albert E. Brumley)

Some glad morning, when this life is o'er, I'll fly away,
To a home on God's celestial shore, I'll fly away,

CHORUS

I'll fly away, O glory, I'll fly away,
When I die, hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away.

When the shadows of this life have grown, I'll fly away,
Like a bird from prison bars has flown, I'll fly away. CHORUS

Just a few more weary days and then, I'll fly away,
To a land where joy shall never end, I'll fly away. CHORUS

                     Song: I'm Not Ashamed to Own My Lord (Isaac Watts)

I'm not ashamed to own my Lord, nor to defend His cause,
Maintain the honors of His Word, the glory of His cross.

Firm as His throne His promise stands, and He can well secure,
What I've committed to His hands, 'till the decisive hour.

What a blessedness, what a peace is mine, Leaning on the everlasting arms,

CHORUS

While the water and the blood, from Thy riven side which flowed;
Be of sin the double cure, cleanse me from its guilt and pow'r.

Not the labor of my hands can fulfill the law's demands;
Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow,

CHORUS

Have you seen Jesus my Lord? He's here in plain view;
Take a look; open your eyes; He'll show it to you.

Have you ever stood at the sunset, with the sky mellowing red,
Seen the clouds suspended like feathers?
Then I'd say you've seen Jesus, my Lord. CHORUS

Have you ever stood at the ocean, with the white foam at your feet,
Felt the endless, thundering motion?
Then I'd say you've seen Jesus, my Lord. CHORUS

Have you ever stood at the cross, with the Man hanging in pain,
Seen the look of love in His eyes?
Then I'd say you've seen Jesus, my Lord. CHORUS

Have you ever stood in the fam'ly, with the Lord there in your midst,
Seen the face of Christ on your brother?
Then I'd say you've seen Jesus, my Lord. CHORUS

E'er you left your room this morning, did you think to pray?

Did you sue for loving favor as a shield today?

CHORUS: Oh, how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night to day!

Who had crossed your way? CHORUS

I've got a reason for livin' again,
Got a reason for laughin' again,
Got a reason for lovin' again;
I've got the love of God in my soul.

No reason to cry any more, no reason to sigh any more,
No reason to die any more, I've got the love of God in my soul.

Monday I was all alone; Tuesday I had my sins atoned;
Wednesday I cried and I cried; Thursday, Lord, now I thought I would die;
Friday, now I started to pray, and Saturday, I read my Bible all day;
Sunday, Lord, the heavens rejoice, I've got the love of God in my soul!

                           Song: A Mighty Fortress (Martin Luther)

A mighty fortress is our God; a bulwark failing never;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow'r are great, and arm'd with cruel hate;
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing,
Were not the right One on our side, the Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask Who this may be? Christ Jesus, this is He;
Lord Sab-a-oth His name, from age to age the same;
And He must win the battle.

And tho' this world, with evil filled, should threaten to undo us;
We will not fear, for God has willed His truth to triumph through us.
Let goods and kindred go; this mortal life also;
The body they may kill, God's Truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever!

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

It is enough, by thronging duties pressed,
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging 'round,
On Jesus' bosom naught but calm is found.

Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away,
In Jesus' keeping we are safe, and they.

Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

It is enough: earth's struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus call us to heav'n's perfect peace.

                      Song: The Church's One Foundation (S. J. Stone)

The Church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation by water and the Word;
From heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from every nation, yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Tho' like a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed,
Her doctrines rent asunder, by names and creeds distressed;
Yet saints their watch are keeping; they cry "O Lord, how long?";
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins,
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains;
Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood shall never lose its pow'r;
'Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more;
Be saved to sin no more; be saved to sin no more;
'Till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.

O, for a closer walk with God! A calm and heav'nly frame;
A purer light to mark the road that leads me to the Lamb!

Where is the blessedness I knew when first I saw the Lord?
Where is that soul-refreshing view of Jesus and His Word?

The dearest idol I have known, what e'er that idol be,
Help me to tear it from Thy throne, and worship only Thee.

So shall my walk be close with God, calm and serene my frame;
So purer light shall mark the road that leads me to the Lamb.

                           Song: A Beautiful Life (William M. Golden)

Each day I'll do a golden deed, by helping those who are in need;
My time on earth is but a span, and so I'll do the best I can.

CHORUS

Life's evening sun is sinking low; a few more days and I must go,
To meet the deeds that I have done, where there will be no setting sun.

The only life that will endure is one that's kind and good and pure,
And so for God I'll take my stand; each day I'll lend a helping hand. CHORUS

                                        Application:

When people call us names or do things to hurt us, we must remember that
vengeance (getting even) is God's job. (Rom 12:19-21) God will always have the
last word. When we are following God, we must do good to our enemies, hoping
they will repent and come to God. Because we know if they do not repent, God
will punish them. God doesn't want anyone to be lost (II Pet 3:9). So because
we want our enemies to see our good example and have a chance to repent, we
treat them right.

                              Song: This Little Light of Mine

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine (repeat twice);
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

All around the neighborhood, I'm gonna let it shine (repeat twice);
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine (repeat twice);
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

Don't let the Devil "pff" it out; I'm gonna let it shine (repeat twice);
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine.

                      Song: I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord (Timothy Dwight)

I love Thy kingdom, Lord, the house         of Thine abode;
The church our blest Redeemer saved         with His own precious blood;
I love Thy church, O God! Her walls before Thee stand,
Dear as the apple of Thine eye, and graven on Thy hand.

For her my tears shall fall, for her my prayers ascend;
To her my cares and toil be giv'n, 'till toils and cares shall end;
Beyond my highest joy I prize her heav'nly ways;
Her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise.

                                           Application:

Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life;

Low in the grave He lay; Jesus my Savior;

CHORUS

Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph o'er His foes;
He arose a Victor from the dark domain;
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign;
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah, Christ arose!

Casting down their golden crowns around the crystal sea;

Who wast and art and ever more shall me.

Holy, holy, holy! Tho' the darkness hide thee;
Tho' the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy! There is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow'r and love, and purity.

Lo! On the mount of blessing, the glorious mount, I stand,
And looking over Jordan, I see the Promised Land.

CHORUS

                           Song: Jesus Is Mine (Mrs. Catharine J. Bonar)

Fade, fade, each earthly joy; Jesus is mine!
Break every tender tie; Jesus is mine!
Dark is the       wilderness; earth has no resting place;
Jesus alone can bless; Jesus is mine!

Tempt not my soul away; Jesus is mine!
Here would I ever stay; Jesus is mine!
Perishing things of clay, born but for one brief day,
Pass from my heart away; Jesus is mine!

Farewell, mortality; Jesus is mine!
Welcome, eternity; Jesus is mine!
Welcome, O loved and blest! Welcome, sweet scenes of rest!
Welcome, my Savior's breast! Jesus is mine!

Love Divine, all love excelling; joy of heav'n to earth come down!
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling; all thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, Thou Art all compassion, pure unbounded love Thou Art;
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling; enter ev'ry trembling heart!

Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit into ev'ry troubled breast;
Let us all in Thee inherit; let us find the promised rest;
Take away the love of sinning; take our load of guilt away;
End the work of Thy beginning; bring us to eternal day.

Finish, then, Thy new creation; pure, unspotted may we be;
Let us see Thy whole salvation, perfectly secured by Thee;
Changed from glory into glory, 'till in heav'n we take our place;
'Til we cast our crowns before Thee, lost in wonder, love and praise!

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross!
Lift high His royal banner; it must not suffer loss.
From vict'ry unto vict'ry His army shall He lead;
'Till ev'ry foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey!
Forth to the mighty conflict in this His glorious day;
Ye that are men now serve Him against un-numbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long!

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore;
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;

                   Song: I Gave My Life For Thee (Frances R. Havergal)

I gave My life for thee; My precious blood I shed,
That thou      mightst ransomed be, and quickened from the dead;
I gave, I gave My life for thee; What hast thou giv'n for Me?
I gave, I gave My life for thee; What hast thou giv'n for Me?

My Father's house of light, My glory-circled throne,
I left for earthly night, for wand'rings sad and lone;
I left, I left it all for thee; Hast thou left aught for Me?
I left, I left it all for thee; Hast thou left aught for Me?

I suffered much for thee, more than thy tongue can tell,
Of bitt'rest agony, to rescue thee from         Hell;
I've borne, I've borne it all for thee; What hast thou borne for Me?
I've borne, I've borne it all for thee; What hast thou borne for Me?

And I have brought to thee, down from My home above,
Salvation full and free, My       pardon and My love;
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee; What hast thou brought for Me?
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee; What hast thou brought for Me?

                                      Reading: Ps 115:1-18

                                          Application:

In this Psalm we read about what idols are like: deaf, dumb, blind, stupid and
dead. Idols can't do anything for you. If anything comes before God, that is
our idol. Money, pleasure, fame can be idols. So we need to be careful to make
sure that we keep God FIRST in our lives.

                           Song: A Wonderful Savior (Fanny J. Crosby)

A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord, a wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock, where rivers of pleasure I see.

CHORUS:

He hideth my soul in the cleft of the Rock that shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love and covers me there with His hand;
And covers me there with His hand.

                                      Reading: Ps 116:5-19

                                          Application:

We have read about God's grace and how thankful we should be. God's grace

                                Song: Amazing Grace (John Newton)

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me;
I once was lost but now I'm found; was blind, but not I see.

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come;
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace shall lead me home.

When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise until we've first begun.

we are in trouble, let's not blame God.

                           Song: In the Hour of Trial (James Montgomery)

In the hour of trial, Jesus, plead for me,
Lest by base denial I depart from Thee.
When Thou see'st me waver, with a look recall,
Nor for fear nor favor suffer me to fall.

With forbidden pleasures would this vain world charm,
Or its sordid treasures spread to work me harm;
Bring to my remembrance sad Gethsemane,
Or in darker 'semblance, cross-crowned Calvary!

Should Thy mercy send me sorrow, toil and woe,
Or should pain attend me on my path below,
Grant that I may never fail Thy hand to see,
Grant that I may ever cast my care on Thee.

                           Song: Give Me the Bible (Priscilla J. Owens)

Give me the Bible, star of gladness gleaming,
To cheer the wandr'er, lone and temptest-tossed.
No storm can hide that radiant peaceful beaming,
Since Jesus came to seek and save the lost.

CHORUS

Give me the Bible, holy message shining,
Thy light shall guide me in the narrow way,
Precept and promise, law and love combining,
'Till night shall vanish in eternal day.

Give me the Bible when my heart is broken,
When sin and grief have filled my soul with fear,
Give   me the precious words by Jesus spoken;
Hold up faith's lamp to show my Savior near. CHORUS

Give me the Bible, lamp of life immortal,
Hold   up    that splendor by the open grave;
Show me the light from heaven's shining portal,
Show me the glory gilding Jordan's wave.

                           Song: Angry Words (D. K. Palmer)

Angry words, O let them never from the tongue unbridled slip;
May the heart's best impulse ever, catch them e'er they soil the lip.

CHORUS

"Love one another"; thus saith the Savior, "Children, obey the Father's blest
command". (Repeat chorus.)

Angry words are lightly spoken; bitt'rest thots are rashly stirred;
Brightest links of life are broken by a single angry word. CHORUS

Love is much too pure and holy, friendship is too sacred far,

                                     Application:

Up in the hills out in the desert there were lions and bears and sometimes
robbers who would steal the sheep from the shepherd. In this Psalm the writer
looks at the hills and does not see danger. He looks into the hills and sees
God's power. Read II Kin 6:14-17.

                            Song: Unto the Hills (Ps 121)

Unto the hills around will I lift up my longing eyes;
O whence for me shall my salvation come, from whence arise?
From God, the Lord, shall come my certain aid,
From God, the Lord, whom heav'n and earth hath made.

He will not suffer that thy foot be moved; safe shalt thou be;
No careless slumber shall His eyelids close who keepeth thee;
Behold, He sleepeth not, He slumb'reth ne'er,
Who keepeth Israel in His holy care.

From every evil shall He keep thy soul, from ev'ry sin,
Jehovah shall preserve thy going out, thy coming in;
Above thee watching, He whom we adore shall keep thee henceforth,
Yea, forevermore.

                           Song: Marching to Zion (Isaac Watts)

Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known,

                               Song: Where Could I Go? (J. B. Coats)

Living below, in this old sinful world, hardly a comfort can afford;
Striving alone to face temptation sore, where could I go but to the Lord?

CHORUS

Where could I go, O where could I go, needing a refuge for my soul?
Needing a friend to save me in the end, where could I go but to the Lord?

Neighbors are kind, I love them every one; we get along in sweet accord,
But when my soul needs manna from above, where could I go but to the Lord?

CHORUS

Life here is grand with friends I love so dear,
Comfort I get from God's own Word;
Yet when I face the chilling hand of death, where could I go but to the Lord?

                           Song: It Is Well With My Soul (H. G. Spafford)

When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like seabillows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

CHORUS

It is well (echo) With my soul (echo)
It is well, it is well with my soul.

My sin, O the bliss of this glorious tho't;
My sin, not in part, but the whole is nailed to the cross
And I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul. CHORUS

Tho' Satan should buffet, and trials should come,
Let this blest assurance console, for He hath regarded my lowly estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul. CHORUS

And, Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul. CHORUS

All the way my Savior leads me; what have I to ask beside?
Shall I doubt His tender mercy, who through life has been my guide?
Heav'nly peace, Divinest comfort, here by faith in Him to dwell;
For I know, what e'er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
For I know, what e'er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

All the way my Savior leads me, cheers each winding path I tread;
Gives me grace for every trial; feeds me with the living bread;
Tho' my weary steps may falter, and my soul athirst may be;
Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! a spring of joy I see!
Gushing from the Rock before me, Lo! a spring of joy I see!

All the way my Savior leads me; O the fullness of His love!
Perfect     rest to me is promised in my Father's house above;

Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewey eves;
Waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

CHORUS

Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,

Any church built on a man will fall. The church Jesus built will stand,
because Jesus' church is built on a Rock. That Rock is Christ. (Mt 16:16-18, I

                                Song: The Wise Man Built His House

The wise man built his house upon the Rock (repeat twice)
And the rain came tumbling down.

And the rains came down and the floods came up (repeat twice)
But the wise man's house stood firm.

Oh, the foolish man built his house upon the sand. (repeat twice)
And the rain came tumbling down.

And the rains came down and the floods came up (repeat twice)
But the foolish man's house went "splat".

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ (repeat twice).
And the blessings come tumbling down.

The blessings come down as the prayers go up (repeat twice).
So build your house upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

                               Song: Tarry With Me (Mrs. C. S. Smith)

Tarry with me, O my Savior, for the day is passing by,
See, the shades of evening gather, and the night is drawing nigh.

CHORUS

Tarry with me, blessed Savior, leave me not till morning light;
For I'm lonely here without Thee: tarry with me thru the night.

Deeper, deeper, grow the shadows, paler now the glowing west;
Swift the night of death advances: Shall it be the night of rest? CHORUS

                           Song: O Worship the King (Robert Grant)

O worship the King, all glorious above,
And gratefully sing His wonderful love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavillioned in splendor and girded with praise!

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail;
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer and Friend!

                           Song: How Sweet, How Heavenly (J. Swain)

How sweet, how heav'nly is the sight when those that love the Lord,
In one another's peace delight, and so fulfill the Word.

When each can feel his brother's sigh, and with him bear a part,
When sorrow flows from eye to eye, and joy from heart to hear!

When, free from envy, scorn and pride, our wishes all above,
Each can his brother's failings hide, and show a brother's love.

When love, in one delightful stream, thru every bosom flows,
When union sweet and dear esteem in every action glows.

Love is the golden chain that binds the happy souls above,
And he's an heir of heav'n who finds his bosom glow with love.

On Christ, the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Lord, speak to me, that I may speak in living echoes of Thy tone,
As Thou has sought, so let me seek Thine erring children, lost and lone.

Lord, speak to me, that while I stand firm on the Rock and strong in Thee,

Speak to me, Lord, that I may speak the precious things Thou dost impart,
And wing my words, that they may reach the hidden depths of many a heart.

Oh, fill me with Thy fullness, Lord, until my very heart o'er flow,

Praise, laud, and bless His name always, for it is seemly so to do.

                  Song: Work, For the Night is Coming (Annie L. Walker)

Work, for the night is coming, work through the morning hours;
Work while the dew is sparkling; work 'mid springing flow'rs;
Work when the day grows brighter, work in the glowing sun;
Work, for the night is coming, when man's work is done.

Work, for the night is coming, work thro' the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labor; rest comes sure and soon;
Give every flying minute something to keep in store;
Work, for the night is coming, when man works no more.

Work, for the night is coming, under the sunset skies;
While their bright tints are glowing, work, for daylight flies;
Work till the last beam fadeth, fadeth to shine no more;
Work while the night is darkning, when man's work is o'er.

The Church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation by water and the Word;
From heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from every nation, yet one o'er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Tho' like a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed,
Her doctrines rent asunder, by names and creeds distressed;
Yet saints their watch are keeping; they cry "O Lord, how long?";
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

Soft as the voice of an angel, breathing a lesson unheard;
Hope, with a gentle persuasion, whispers her comforting word,
Wait till the darkness is over, wait 'till life's tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow, after the shower is o'er.

Whispering hope, O how welcome thy voice,

             Song: How Shall the Young Secure Their Hearts? (Isaac Watts)

How shall the young secure their hearts and guard their lives from sin?
Thy Word the choicest rules imparts to keep the conscience clean,
To keep the conscience clean.

Tis like the sun, a heav'nly light, that guides us all the way,
And through the dangers of the night, a lamp to lead our way,
A lamp to lead our way.

Thy Word is everlasting Truth; how pure is every page;
That holy Book shall guide our youth and well support our age;
And well support our age.

               Theme: Getting Our Heart Right Reading: Prov 20:9

                                         Application:

Our heart is the source of every sin. Murder, drunkenness, envy, filthy
language, all start in our hearts. When we realize what sin does to our lives
we want to get rid of it. So we try not to think bad thoughts, but nothing
works. By ourselves there is no way we can make our hearts clean. Only God's
forgiveness can make our hearts clean. And only Jesus' blood can make our
hearts clean. This happens when we are baptized into Christ. Thank God for His
grace and mercy that keeps our hearts clean.

                Song: True-Hearted, Whole-Hearted (Frances R. Havergal)

True-hearted, whole-hearted, faithful and loyal,
King of our lives, by Thy grace we will be.
Under the standard exalted and royal,
Strong in Thy strength we will battle for Thee.

CHORUS

Peal out the watchword! Silence it never!
Song of our spirit, rejoicing and free;
Peal out the watchword!
Loyal forever, King of our lives, by Thy grace we will be.

                           Song: Victory In Jesus (E. M. Bartlett)

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory;
How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins and won the victory!

CHORUS

Oh, victory in Jesus, our Savior forever!
He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;
He loved me 'ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory,
And I heard about the street of gold beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing and the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there the song of victory. CHORUS

The rains came down and the floods came up, (Repeat twice)
And the wise man's house stood firm.

The   foolish man built his house upon the sand (Repeat twice);
And the rains came tumbling down.
The rains came down and the floods came up, (Repeat twice)
And the foolish man's house went "splat".

So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ (Repeat twice);

                           Song: Take Time to Be Holy (W. D. Longstaff)

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord,
Abide in Him always, and feed on His word,
Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing His blessings to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
Abiding in Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take   time to be holy, be calm in thy soul;
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No not one, no not one!
None else could heal all our soul's diseases, No not one, no not one!

CHORUS

Jesus knows all about our struggles; He will guide till the day is done.
There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No not one, no not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy, No not one, no not one!

And God's Word is truth. (Jn 17:17) So when we read it in God's Word, the
Bible, we know you can believe it. And believing God's Word is called faith.
And the more we study the Bible, God's Word, the better faith we have.

When we have faith we can stay out of the devil's traps and help other people
learn about God. What's your faith like?

                           Song: Faith is the Victory (John H. Yates)

Encamped along the hills of light, ye Christian soldiers rise,
And press the battle, e'er the night shall veil the glowing skies!
Against the foe, in vales below, let all our strength be hurl'd,
Faith is the victory, we know, that overcomes the world.

CHORUS

Faith is the victory, (Repeat)
O glorious victory that overcomes the world.

                     Song: Years I Spent In Vanity (William R. Newell)

Years I spent in vanity and pride, caring not my Lord was crucified;
Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.

CHORUS

Mercy there was great, and grace was free,
Pardon there was multiplied to me,
There my burdened soul found liberty, at Calvary!

Oh the love that drew salvation's plan,
Oh the grace that brought it down to man,
Oh the mighty gulf that God did span, at Calvary!

By God's Word at last my sin I learned, Then I trembled at the law I'd spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary! CHORUS

Now I've giv'n to Jesus everything, Now I gladly own Him as my King;
Now my raptured soul can only sing of Calvary! CHORUS

Give me the Bible when my heart is broken,
When sin and grief have filled my soul with fear,
Give   me the precious words by Jesus spoken;
Hold up faith's lamp to show my Savior near. CHORUS

Give me the Bible, lamp of life immortal,
Hold   up   that splendor by the open grave;
Show me the light from heaven's shining portal,
Show me the glory gilding Jordan's wave.
